One Movie Line At A Time
Bio
Growing up loving movies, and quoting infamous lines, N. Jordan is about taking life's given competition and embracing it through movies quotes. Each posting reflects a personal understanding on how movies effect people, our lives and our fake realities. If life is a movie, why do we compete in so many ways? Sports, love, relationships, family, business, money, career, kids, etc. Its time to see who is keeping score. Because... life is sometimes an altered reality, just go at it one movie line at a time. My real name is Michelle Keifer. But, I've always wanted to talk about life through a guy's perspective. Just seemed so fitting as I've always been just one of the boys. Go New England Patriots!

#141"Pirates of the Caribbean"..did someone say Jack Sparrow

Rate: 6 Flag

Pirates of the Caribbean

"The only rules that really matter are these: what a man can do and what a man can't do...So, can you sail under the command of a pirate, or can you not?"

 Jack Sparrow

The Pirates of the Caribbean:

The Curse of the Black Pearl

2003

Yo ho.. Yo ho... a pirates life for me! We all thought about that catchy tune and reflected on our memories of such a tale when Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl hit theaters in 2003. The legend of pirates on the high seas, diamonds in a treasure chest and beautiful mermaids hidden within the coves, sets the expedition for the fascination of a wooden ship and a pirate's life of adventure. The Curse of the Black Pearl put the life of a pirate back on the high seas, and put the motivation of a man through the test of love between when faced with what is right, and what is wrong.

Johnny Depp captured our attention with his portrayal of Jack Sparrow; a pirate, once captain, who seeks the freedom in which a curse can only ensue for his soul. Orlando Bloom plays Will Turner; an apprentice blacksmith, cursed with love and agility as he seeks to find his way alongside Elizabeth; played by Keira Knightly. Truth and the measure of a man, or most closely a pirate, enlists the idea that man will, and can, break the rules a bit to get ahead.

This motion picture was of exceptional caliber. This film took us on an expedition and adventure beyond the life of a pirate and into a world of fantasy. There was more than the treasure or the ship that drew audiences in; it was the power and status of true redemption that kept us intrigued. A common competitive goal in which we many of us weigh in on, is the concept around power. The power to be someone; someone with a title; someone with grander qualities built for a captain.

"Do us a favor... I know it's difficult for you... but please, stay here, and try not to do anything... stupid." - Jack Sparrow

"Me? I'm dishonest, and a dishonest man you can always trust to be dishonest. Honestly. It's the honest ones you want to watch out for, because you can never predict when they're going to do something incredibly... stupid. " - Jack Sparrow

I never imagined a witty pirate or captain of a ship that had such deep thought. I never imagined an adventure with so many twists and turns and ahas captured throughout a film. Its the films that create fantasy, and relate interpretation in life's inevitable circumstances that make critics think about their stimulated senses. I recall playing pirate when I was young. I recall playing a captain while steering the ship on the high seas. What I most recall is wanting to walk the plank every time I was in a swimming pool with a diving board. I guess it was just something that seemed cool.

If it was Disney or just my imagination working; I couldn't tell you how excited I was about a wooden sword fight or wearing a ridiculous eye patch. A pirate's life was indeed one that appeared harmless and courageous, yet, maybe its just not as crystal clear as we all imagined.

"Welcome to the Caribbean, love." - Jack Sparrow

" Ta Da Da Dam, Da Da Da Dam." - Jack Sparrow

I say "ahoy me hearties" because I know... each of us in one way or another reflected upon some sort of pirate tale or memory as we watched this film. Way to go Johnny.. this was the start of an incredible sequence of tales of the high seas and redemption beyond the ship.

This was too fitting... enjoy ;-)

a masterful performance in what I consider the only decent movie of the series. And to think, I only watched it because Keira is so umm...decorative???
Yes!!! Keira is brilliant as well; fit the role like a queen...I have to agree, the first one was my favorite; hence why I picked it to kick off Johnny Depp week. Thanks Brian B for your thoughts!!
I am so far behind. I assumed this was gonna be about N. Jordan playing basketball,
pin the tail on a mule,
place a crown in a princess,
a story about you at 64 or 17.
I think nobody will smooch You?
I bet you and me haven't been kissed?
You remind me of the old drive-in-film.
You got yout boots stuck in a steer-horn.
The drive-in-theatre was a era to make-up.
If we didn't kiss pre- 16- we made-up for it!
Ya left hair in the armrest and mud on roof!
My Mommy wondered what movie is he at!
The floor had cans of`Pap's - Colt- 45 beer!
Who panties are in the glove compartment!
I said You were doing he hokey-pokey, huh!
Ta Ta Ta Dan La La La Land Ba Ba Ba `Nam!

I hope I catch up on the film views I missed.
The next movie-flick? Ya wear red slippers.
I may have been at a geezer`Nursing home.
I faintly recall a choir sing `O, Silent Night.
Mammy blamed me for `Bavarian Cream.
I hope movie watchers` No make messes.
I gonna pawn a computer for`Nintendo!
Art James... you are a creative writer. Exceptionally said. Thanks!
I love respecting the dishonest pirate to be exactly what he says he is. R
I am absolutely in awe of Johnny Depp every time I see one of his films. He is the only actor I know of who can so completely transform himself into the character he is portraying that the line blurs, and you forget he's acting.

It may be unfashionable to admit it, but I adore the entire series, and am greatly looking forward to the fourth, "On Stranger Tides," based on the book of the same name by Tim Powers.

All three movies are just filled with memorable lines, and my sons are constantly throwing them at me. "I wash my hands of this weirdness" is heard quite often around here.

Great post. Rated.
Loved the first Pirates (not so much the 2nd, never saw the 3rd). Every second that Johnny Depp was on the screen was magic. If they'd put out a film of just him trying on the costume and practicing his lines, I would have paid to see it.
I thought that movie was hilarious. It was well done. Great review, my friend, rated.
Brown Eyed girl.. couldn't agree more ;-)

Charity cash... LOVE that you reminded me of :"I wash my hands of this weirdness". Brilliant take from the film. Thanks! I'm sure the 4th is going to be entertaining... did you have any clue they'd keep on going?

Cranky Cuss.. thanks my friend, I agree. That pirate costume was a vivid explanation of Johnny!
Thoth.. the wit of Johnny Depp is seen visibly on film, and Tim Burton adores him as well as showcases his rare talent film after film.
Yes, with this movie they created a classic!! (It was my favorite ride at Disneyland when I was 4 or 5, way back -- and though that seemed like a really awful, as in thin, inspiration for a movie when I first heard they were making this, they totally hit it! Imagination and creativity overflowing!!) I've always loved a good pirate movie -- swashbuckling, anyone? -- but this one's great! That "dishonest/honest" line is as good as it gets!

Thanks so much for this fun, Movie Jordan!
Julie... as always thanks!! Pirates of the Caribbean at D-land was definitely what I imagine this film would be... but it wasn't. I guess, the creative mind has to seek further interpretation via intellect. But, I still the love ride. Yo..Ho..Yo Ho.. a Pirates life for me ;-)
