One Movie Line At A Time
Bio
Growing up loving movies, and quoting infamous lines, N. Jordan is about taking life's given competition and embracing it through movies quotes. Each posting reflects a personal understanding on how movies effect people, our lives and our fake realities. If life is a movie, why do we compete in so many ways? Sports, love, relationships, family, business, money, career, kids, etc. Its time to see who is keeping score. Because... life is sometimes an altered reality, just go at it one movie line at a time. My real name is Michelle Keifer. But, I've always wanted to talk about life through a guy's perspective. Just seemed so fitting as I've always been just one of the boys. Go New England Patriots!

#143 "Don Juan DeMarco".....there are 4 questions in life.

Rate: 3 Flag
Don Juan DeMarco

"No woman has ever left my arms unsatisfied."

Don Juan

Don Juan DeMarco

1994

Besides being a movie filled with an alter ego driven by passion, desire and lust; Johnny Depp was brilliant in his portrayal of Don Juan. The imaginative state of a man's history, becomes the catalyst for a man's love of a woman.

I adored the thoughts here:

"There are only four questions of value in life, Don Octavio. What is sacred? Of what is the spirit made? What is worth living for, and what is worth dying for? The answer to each is the same: only love."

- Don Juan

Can ones lust for love, and search for understanding it, be enough for one to simplify their existing identity? I often wonder to what caliber we as humans exude when trying to compartmentalize the way we feel about ourselves, others, and of course the ones we wish we were. Are we passively accepting to given circumstances? Or, do we just roll with the punches hoping we duck right in the nick of time?

What were your thoughts when you saw this film? Did you see it? Or was it too much of a fantasy themed driven vehicle?

Life gives us opportunity to sometimes be someone we are not. It could be when we go on vacation, or when we step into a building knowing that this is the first and last time we might be there. Sometimes it could be boarding a train, or taking a flight into a new territory. The question is, do people change their identities to find comfort in their unknown surroundings? The question is... who is really noticing right? The message is... does anyone really care who we are until we speak?

Looks are deceiving. We think we can judge a book by its cover, but, some souls are obliviously hidden and it takes chapters upon chapters to understand where they are coming from. Some souls are mistakenly pre-designed. We can't really judge a person's character unless we ask. We can't really judge someones love or lust unless we start to feel it.

"You know, my friend, until this afternoon, I had always believed that a man could love only one woman. I have been badly misled. It is absolutely incredible to me that just a few hours ago, Dona Julia was the only woman who existed, and now, now, there is the magnificent Sultana Gulbeyaz."

- Don Juan

True to trials and tribulation; the anomaly of knowing what one really wants is ultimately a secret in knowing what one can't have. How can anyone trust the trusted when knowing the trusting has stopped believing? Don Juan according to many of the ladies, was astonishingly hot. Johnny Depp made this role steamy and seductive. It made the name; Don Juan DeMarco roll off the tongue of women seeking to find that seductive appeal of a man who wanted to be the greatest gift of love and ulitimate pleasure.
Love is pleasure. Wanting to be loved is just something that evolves over time. Once you feel that love, you don't want to deceive your own identity. You want to make that mystery easy to find; easier than than perceived, because once discovered it becomes breathtaking and honest. It becomes less of a mystery.

"Every woman is a mystery to be solved." - Don Juan

How much fun was this movie?! And, yes, Johnny was brilliant! Such a playful way to bring Cervantes into film -- and Don Juan, though perhaps deluded, wasn't really wrong! (I have to re-watch -- for fun!!)
I always loved this story. I remember some great scenes in this film, especially between Depp and Brando. Excellent post, rated.
Really nice writing here. Very rich sensual movie ...
Julie! Yes, the movie was fun and brilliant!!! The deluded Don Juan concept was right on. Thanks for your feedback.
