Title
One Movie Line At A Time
Bio
Growing up loving movies, and quoting infamous lines, N. Jordan is about taking life's given competition and embracing it through movies quotes. Each posting reflects a personal understanding on how movies effect people, our lives and our fake realities. If life is a movie, why do we compete in so many ways? Sports, love, relationships, family, business, money, career, kids, etc. Its time to see who is keeping score. Because... life is sometimes an altered reality, just go at it one movie line at a time. My real name is Michelle Keifer. But, I've always wanted to talk about life through a guy's perspective. Just seemed so fitting as I've always been just one of the boys. Go New England Patriots!

#152 "Heavenly Creatures"...has friendship gone too far?

Rate: 4 Flag

Heavenly Creatures

"Only the best people fight against all obstacles in pursuit of happiness."

 Juliet Hulme

Heavenly Creatures

1994

Obstacles, challenges, direction, distance and perseverance. We claim to seek happiness at all extents. We claim that once happiness is found we don't need to provide anyone or thing justification. Happiness is soley driven by the soul's identity within oneself. As soon as we relate the word of happiness to the world of contentment; have we stepped outside the stereotype?

Juliet was a best friend to Pauline. Their imaginative fantasy alter reality kept their happiness at a scale and caliber no one can such match. Whether or not we deem that relationship acceptable, audiences had no choice but to assume contentment within these heavenly creatures.

I often at times wonder how the world devises who is a friend and who is a foe. I often wonder who in all actuality is the catalyst to the decision to become the enemy? We forget that we can choose our paths and we forget that we can turn away from frustration by contemplating our inner most desire to be happy.

But, we don't.

We don't extend the gratitude to keep others happy when we are so down. We don't extend happiness acceptance to those who have found it all. We seek to find jealousy and envy and discourse to those that have mastered the role of contentment.

Question for you... if you could define "happiness".. would it be set in stone? Or does it inevitably change with the season, the time, the surroundings or better yet the relationships you develop?

You know that saying "you can't have your cake and eat it too"? Or is it "you can have your cake and eat it too"?  Either way,  does happiness come with consequence? Does friendship entail evenly divided happiness?

I've always wondered if some people think they are more "friend-worthy' than others. I've always wondered if people can and will break friendships because of minor incidences or minor misunderstandings. If the friendships are too powerful are they destructive?

I guess the power is in the strength of the bond, however, this film demonstrated a bond stronger than the powers that become out of friendship. The premeditated advance into what a friend will and will not do was often at times disturbing. It was destructive contemplation of thought.

I guess ones reality is often at times another's fantasy. Separating the two worlds can be either captivating or simply a moot point. Joining the two worlds as an alter reality might steer down a different turn when it comes to committing a crime.

"We have decided how sad it is for others that they cannot appreciate our genius. " - Pauline

This movie has always stayed with me. It wasn't "entertaining" exactly, but definitely memorable, and very well done by the actors and directors. I'm not sure you could classify their relationship as friendship" -- it was really more unhealthy obsession, a meeting of two very ill minds.

If you've never read up on what happened to these two girls after the crime. Well, it's shocker.
Bellwether... you are correct. The entertaining factor wasn't there, but, I agree.. that "friendship" was unhealthy and dark and morbid. It was a complete shock to know Juliet and Pauline's recourse after the fact.
Thanks for your comment!!!
Another cool review! Kudos, Mr. Hollywood.

This film was the first I had seen at the time by Peter Jackson--a clear talent, even in this story of the twisted psyches he lovingly portrayed--with a beautiful touch. My first glimpse of Kate, too--equally talented.

As to your themes, Movie J., it's true--we can always turn away from frustration towards inner contentment. A nice lesson, even for healthy adults in these times!! And even more, I Love your term, "happiness acceptance!" Wise One, a nice discourse from a disturbing, true-life story!
Kate acted superbly in this film, but it was very disturbing. Great analysis and commentary.
