One Movie Line At A Time
Bio
Growing up loving movies, and quoting infamous lines, N. Jordan is about taking life's given competition and embracing it through movies quotes. Each posting reflects a personal understanding on how movies effect people, our lives and our fake realities. If life is a movie, why do we compete in so many ways? Sports, love, relationships, family, business, money, career, kids, etc. Its time to see who is keeping score. Because... life is sometimes an altered reality, just go at it one movie line at a time. My real name is Michelle Keifer. But, I've always wanted to talk about life through a guy's perspective. Just seemed so fitting as I've always been just one of the boys. Go New England Patriots!

#154 "Jude"... we shant be in love, we just can't be in love

Rate: 3 Flag
Jude

 "Haven't we been punished enough?"

Sue Bridehead

Jude

1996

A story of love; love that is unaccepted. Love that is revealed through passion, lust and circumstance. As the love affair between Sue (Kate Winslet) and Jude (Christopher Eccleston) ensues, we see the tale of two lovers unfold; yet, their not just two lovers. They are cousins.

Cousins as appropriately announced in this film, as well as married in this empathetically portrayed interpretation, is the foundation for the film Jude, its the foundation for the critique of reality. The concept of infidelity, distrust and entrapment depict a world in which man pursues woman and woman begins to love man. True love of true dismay, the film brings up an interesting point....

Are we meant to fall in love with anyone in particular?

We all remember when we fell in love right? We remember that as complicated as it was to admit, we knew something hit us and we had to hit it back. Not necessarily am I speaking "hitting", I am speaking... "admitting". Often in times in our lives we are fulfilled with the notion that someone loves us. Sometimes it takes years to fully see and enjoy the love that is in front of you, while other times is an unrequited love that exudes from time, circumstance and reputability.

Is it wrong to love an unaccepted mate?

Is it wrong to be loved by an unaccepted mate?

I reflect back on the teen years where the sweet innocent girl strives for the rough jock like man. I see years where the girl knows she loves the nerd, but, ultimately wants the thrill of the popular man. Is it because people want to be popular, or is it because people can't help but to test the tempting souls in which they claim they are against?

Jude pursued Sue. Jude was married. He claims the marriage was a form and act of "trickery". Sue was married as well, but, in a relationship that was abusive. As Jude and Sue choose each other, the town frowns upon them and they are forced to struggle, together, alone, without an accepting soul.

Is love worth it?

I ask that question pondering the thought of why people think they have to be accepted by others to be happy. I ponder the idea that is everything crystal clear when in love with a person, yet, in disagreement with the world? It is one of those times that we as people tend to weigh the consequences on just how much society and acceptance tip the scale.

True love can't be defined as right or wrong. But, being in love always wins on the happiness meter of life. It always seems to tip the scale opposed to level it out.

When we realize that sometimes doing right by society is weak to the heart, we realize that mistaking love for society is ultimately the same battle, it is the same inner struggle to conform.

Haven't seen "Jude," though I will because anything Winslet is in is worth seeing (though first, I have to see "Eternal Sunshine" again). I am especially fond of an odd film directed by John Turturro called "Romance & Cigarettes," in which Kate did a supporting bit.

There was a story in my local paper this morning that Kate will be filming part of her HBO mini-series "Mildred Pierce" in a neighboring town, and they are looking for locals to appear as extras. I'm gonna give it a shot. Who knows, maybe I'll get to meet the great Kate.
I'm with Cranky on Winslet and Eternal Sunshine which is one of the few movies I own on VHS and watch a lot. But the subject matter here is disturbing to me.
I haven't seen this one, though I appreciate your thoughtfulness on it. These are big questions, and as to conformity, the question does always arise: where do we draw the lines? And why?
Cranky Cuss... Thanks for your comment!!! That is awesome that they are filming near you. Good luck! Keep us posted.

Patty... you are correct. It is a disturbing piece, sorry I didn't warn everyone.

Julie.. its true, I guess we don't know when to draw the line unless someone starts to erase our scribbles... I love your insight.

jali.. that is really sweet. Live and let die.. I believe a famous track played through history. Thanks for the comment.
