"Attention, passengers, we are now leaving Nun Central and are beginning our journey to Hell and beyond. The captain has turned off the "no smoking" sign, and you may now move about the cabin freely."
Rick Gassko
Bachelor Party
1984
Time to party! Literally... As we continue our look into Tom Hanks and his films, we start to uncover that he is one of those versatile and self evolving types of actors that can bring humor, drama, comedy and intellect to the big screen. We look back into the year 1984 and watch Tom Hanks as he surprises us in the role of Rick Gassko, the man headed for some fun in Bachelor Party.
This film joins the genre of 80's films that touched on the ideal of boy angst. The boy curiosity, the desire to be all man, grown up, and embarking on the ultimate perfect fantasy.
Can we all say the same about our bachelor parties?
What was great about this film was the twists and turns and the continuous surprises. We see the night unfold and it somewhat reminds me of today's modern version of The Hangover (2009). You mix hormones, fun, a wedding and of course off the hook buddies with a night to celebrate and you get a night of memories, some in which you ultimately may want to forget, and others that continue fielding the stories some ten plus years later.
I just love the "oh shit" moments in life that keep us thinking. I love the "if they only understood" moments that keep us investigating. I have to admit, I love the element of surprise, yet ponder if the surprise is sometimes meant to have me guessing.
Call me crazy, or call me the day after, bachelor and party in the same sentence always produce some of the greatest stories.
Hanks did a great job inviting us into the hype surrounding bachelor parties, and of course the assumptions of how it all pans out. The greatest twist and turn in life is being caught of guard. Seeing these boys wrapped in a web consistently spinning their wheels was a riot.
Knowing that life is sometimes just a party...well.. that is just something bachelors can only say one time before marriage. Knowing the party is inevitable is I believe just the message we took away from Bachelor Party!

(the funny thing.. I've seen these all.. I won't write about them until I've seen them... I grew up watching movies. That was my vice as a child, and still my passion to this day).
He did exactly that; great review.

GeeBee... Hahaha.. that was freaking hilarious. Did you know this was based on a real life experience? I think the writer or the director was replaying his Bachelor Party through this film. Too funny.
