"I don't understand. All my life I've been waiting for someone and when I find her, she's... she's a fish."
Allen
Splash
1984
This is a classic Tom Hanks' film. I adore it because come on... Ron Howard directed it. No, because of the mermaid. How can we take more of an absurd storyline and turn it into film? Well.. we call it Splash and we star Tom Hanks, and we do a damn good job of captivating audiences.
Splash will always be in the memory book for films with character.
I think everyone at times in their life they question the validity of mermaids and the folklore tales of hidden treasure under the sea's surface. I have to admit, Disney's The Little Mermaid sufficed that tale just as well.
What was kind hearted and sweet about this tale was the story of a boy and a mermaid, and the years later that that boy found her. Is true love about finding your mermaid? Is true love about finding that treasure beneath the sea?
Hanks plays Allen and Daryl Hannah plays Madison. This was a touching sweet innocent story that takes audiences on the swim of a lifetime through New York, and perception of appearances and love, and of course what love does to a man.
Most times when in love, perception isn't as important. Most times when in love, perception isn't as noticeable. When you start with a fin, and end up with two legs, I have a strong feeling perception is inevitable. However, Hanks' character was creatively in tune to the innocence of love and lust.
Each day I dream of being by the ocean. Hearing the waves crash along the shore. Sometimes I envision the sand and the breeze. Perhaps a sailboat cruises by. I have to admit, watching this film at a young age I had a slight belief in mermaids. I had a slight belief that love finds a way to make it to the shore.

Innocence revisited is the heart of this story! And who better than Tom and Ron (especially as adult men) to present it?!
O, the heart you insert in your piece makes it quite endearing.
