One Movie Line At A Time
Bio
Growing up loving movies, and quoting infamous lines, N. Jordan is about taking life's given competition and embracing it through movies quotes. Each posting reflects a personal understanding on how movies effect people, our lives and our fake realities. If life is a movie, why do we compete in so many ways? Sports, love, relationships, family, business, money, career, kids, etc. Its time to see who is keeping score. Because... life is sometimes an altered reality, just go at it one movie line at a time. My real name is Michelle Keifer. But, I've always wanted to talk about life through a guy's perspective. Just seemed so fitting as I've always been just one of the boys. Go New England Patriots!

#177 "Splash" ... I LOVE NY!

Rate: 4 Flag

"I don't understand. All my life I've been waiting for someone and when I find her, she's... she's a fish."

Allen

Splash

1984

This is a classic Tom Hanks' film. I adore it because come on... Ron Howard directed it. No, because of the mermaid. How can we take more of an absurd storyline and turn it into film? Well.. we call it Splash and we star Tom Hanks, and we do a damn good job of captivating audiences.

Splash will always be in the memory book for films with character.

I think everyone at times in their life they question the validity of mermaids and the folklore tales of hidden treasure under the sea's surface. I have to admit, Disney's The Little Mermaid sufficed that tale just as well.

What was kind hearted and sweet about this tale was the story of a boy and a mermaid, and the years later that that boy found her. Is true love about finding your mermaid? Is true love about finding that treasure  beneath the sea?

Hanks plays Allen and Daryl Hannah plays Madison. This was a touching sweet innocent story that takes audiences on the swim of a lifetime through New York, and perception of appearances and love, and of course what love does to a man.

Most times when in love, perception isn't as important. Most times when in love, perception isn't as noticeable. When you start with a fin, and end up with two legs, I have a strong feeling perception is inevitable. However, Hanks' character was creatively in tune to the innocence of love and lust.

Each day I dream of being by the ocean. Hearing the waves crash along the shore. Sometimes I envision the sand and the breeze. Perhaps a sailboat cruises by. I have to admit, watching this film at a young age I had a slight belief in mermaids. I had a slight belief that love finds a way to make it to the shore.

N., another movie that I haven't seen in a while, but did see it in the theater when it first came out and enjoyed it a lot. Thanks for the memories!
Splash was the movie when I realized Hanks could be a big movie star and Ron Howard a big-time director. Charming as hell no matter how far-fetched the story.
I think you should keep that belief -- in whatever form -- alive!! Good things come of things like that!! Um, and can I say that it's pretty funny that a sentence with this in it -- "When you start with a fin, and end up with two legs..." -- winds up in a movie review?! Gotta laugh at that!

Innocence revisited is the heart of this story! And who better than Tom and Ron (especially as adult men) to present it?!
loved this movie too!!! saw it for the first time about 14 years after it came out.

O, the heart you insert in your piece makes it quite endearing.
Aunt Mabel.. true that!

designator.. thanks! Memories keep films alive for sure!

Cranky Cuss.. Ron Howard is amazing!!! I need to focus on him soon. He is a brilliant man. Brilliant.

Julie.. you crack me up.. Yes, I re-read it and thought.. OMG, I can't believe I said that! hahaha.. writers love for subconcious I guess.

Renatta.. I think it was about that time when I saw it too.. wow, time flys for sure.
Well, you are poetic, but it's still just... funny!! You've got me laughing, too!!
