Title
One Movie Line At A Time
Bio
Growing up loving movies, and quoting infamous lines, N. Jordan is about taking life's given competition and embracing it through movies quotes. Each posting reflects a personal understanding on how movies effect people, our lives and our fake realities. If life is a movie, why do we compete in so many ways? Sports, love, relationships, family, business, money, career, kids, etc. Its time to see who is keeping score. Because... life is sometimes an altered reality, just go at it one movie line at a time. My real name is Michelle Keifer. But, I've always wanted to talk about life through a guy's perspective. Just seemed so fitting as I've always been just one of the boys. Go New England Patriots!

#187 "Shrek".. just an ogre or perhaps a fairy tale prince?

Shrek

2001

In regards to animation and the talents behind the scenes, Shrek was one of those films that leaves you laughing with charm and wit, and wondering if and when the next spoof in context will arrive, or simply become as prevalent.

I remember seeing this film for the first time. I thought, hmm, only the adults are laughing, and isn't this a child's film? I thought, wow.. can they really get away with this? Then I laughed and I smirked and I thought... this is brilliant.

The tale of an ogre and the "fairy tale" that is so not following a typical fairy tale plot,  has engaged audiences and captivated the humor in all of us. From the characters , the jokes, and the adult humor subtly, we look at a film like Shrek, and see so much possibility in the perceptions of the ultimate fairy tale. The idea that we can mimic this fairy tale knock off persona and laugh at it, is just the praise and desire audiences need from time and again. It was most definitely found in Shrek and most definitely portrayed through the characters surrounding the storyline.

It is great that animation has that entrance into fantasy and escape, yet, the humor presented is profoundly something that is subtle and less defined through our most typical daily expectations.

I think about times when all I wanted to say was not necessarily all I needed to hear. I think about times when I couldn't imagine not being able to call it like it is, or accept the situation for what its worth.

Often at times, we find ourselves tossed up against a wall. The barrier of communication is somewhat terrifying and out of internal control. I love watching outlets like Shrek. I love hearing what someone really wants to say. I love knowing that creativity can be said, and humor can be well crafted. Circumstances allow humor to fall into subcategories of accepting the unexpected. Humor makes situations that are uncomfortable, comfortable. Humor makes people feel at ease.

If you have seen Shrek you will understand what I am getting at. We all need our outlets, we all need to feel that escape. When the chance to laugh eludes the chance to be real, its fitting to say the least that we are all characters in our own story. We are all telling our stories day by day, minute by minute, and laugh by laugh.

Think about your funniest story, did it make others laugh? Or is it just something that you only get, and to others it just flies right over their heads?

Subtle humor, innuendo, and even direct humor are compelling to a humans mind, it defines their soul and gives a tough moment a little bit of distraction. Making someone smile is ultimately just as comforting as a hug. It is ultimately just as comforting as acceptance.

Michelle, I bought the movie for my sons when it came out on DVD and have always enjoyed watching the film a lot. You have some great insights here about the movie and life!
Yes, my daughter adores it. I love the witty humor, and of course the non-subtle wise cracks and ancedotes. Thanks for stopping by.
Such a sweet discussion on this movie, humor -- and ultimately, acceptance! Thanks!

It's true, too, that the best fairytales, or children's stories, appeal to adults, too -- that's rich! And truer yet, this essence of truth: that we are all characters in our own story!!

You're the best, Movie Jordan!!
