"Whoa! Hold up there a second, fuzzbucket. You mean like, uh, the "live in a mud hut, wipe yourself with a leaf" type wild?"

Madagascar
2005
Animals escaping captivity to embrace the wild? Wait... isn't that breaking the cardinal rule? Aren't we supposed to bring animals out into the wild in stages? Aren't animals coming from the wild, while becoming a part of captivity welcomed into a zoo or compound for the people to enjoy? If an animal belongs with its kind and an animal isn't born into the wild, how, just how will they escape what they know and adjust from being in captivity in pursuit of doing what is of instinct?
Madagascar is one of those films that takes an animals perspective and adds a few twist and insight to an animals plight to see the world outside a cage.
This story takes place in New York. This story, along with its great character voices lends a warm hearted feel about animals and their desires to just be themselves. What I adored about this film was the inability of the animals to know the unknown. The concept of expect whats unexpected while embracing circumstances that surround you, is appropriate, and of course fitting for such a film about friendship.
Animals and humans are so similar. We all thrive off of food, love, shelter and attention. Most of all, we seek comradery. We seek outlets and knowledge of friendship.
This tale embarks on a friendship mission to rescue one of their own after an animal has escaped captivity. Friendship is just like that. Someone falls and there is someone to pick you up. Someone is happy and the other person is able to share in that excitement. Someone needs attention and the friend is willing to offer up an ear.
Aside from the humor in this film and the perspectives, Madagascar gave us a chance to value our roots, embrace where we came from and who've we become. If life's lessons are to escape the reality every once in awhile to find the appreciation in what we have, perhaps all it takes is a willingness to step outside ones comfort zone.
