Title
One Movie Line At A Time
Bio
Growing up loving movies, and quoting infamous lines, N. Jordan is about taking life's given competition and embracing it through movies quotes. Each posting reflects a personal understanding on how movies effect people, our lives and our fake realities. If life is a movie, why do we compete in so many ways? Sports, love, relationships, family, business, money, career, kids, etc. Its time to see who is keeping score. Because... life is sometimes an altered reality, just go at it one movie line at a time. My real name is Michelle Keifer. But, I've always wanted to talk about life through a guy's perspective. Just seemed so fitting as I've always been just one of the boys. Go New England Patriots!

The Thomas Crown Affair

1999

The question rings true... just how do you swoon in on the man that has it all; money, women, power and confidence? Well.. you give him art, a fascination for thrill and of course a moment he will always remember. The only caveat...when the investigator on the crime becomes more than just an a catalyst to the assignment to find the stolen art; it becomes a love affair Thomas Crown never imagined.

Thomas Crown was popular, had his fortune, in inevitable fame, yet, still found that trusting others, and living for more than his status kept him somewhat at a disadvantage.

I think about how sometimes those people who have it all, are really missing so much. Yet, it appears that what they are missing is not necessarily something they need to find. If the drive for instant gratification and implicit satisfaction is short lived, how does one cope when the lasting fascination of the change falls short?

Think about adrenaline junkies... the need for speed, jumping out of airplanes and even climbing the tallest rock mountain. After the thrill of completion is it over? Or is it just beginning?

Thomas Crown identified a lot with the idea that power, success, popularity and drive only gave so much to an alone soul. Finding love beyond the lust or affairs with other women became more than that priceless thrill of art, it became a part of his inner perception. I always wondered why this film called itself an affair. I always wondered if the affair was because of the drive, or the intensification of going after something you know you shouldn't or couldn't really have.

Going after a temporary high, with long term affects; was that the case?

If it wasn't art, was it desire? If it wasn't the desire was it the thrill? Did it make sense? Was it worth it? I am sure these explanations could only make matters seems relevant, but if art is art, then is an affair just an image beyond the canvas? Or something only people in power can explain?

I told my ex husband that if he passed we could not throw in everything he buys..maybe a HSN token but that was it.

I loved your post. It's so true and what is uncanny is that I told my 26 year old daughter to go and rent "The Thomas Crown Affair" just yesterday! I can't explain to you why because tis is a public post and she'd never speak to me again. But the movie is THE sexy quentessential "Have-it-all love affair, in fact when I went to see it with my boyfriend at the time, we both looked at each other afterwards trying to hide our disapointment. It is a high, which is why people have affairs, and I doubt from a sobering view it would have lasted. Because the high goes away and the deeper love sets in - and for so many that's just not enough. There will always be someone richer, more intriguing, more mysterious to conquer if you are addicted to that feeling. And I think it is an addiction. Gave you a well deserved rate, and thanks for the article.
Linda... thank you, your comments are always so great to hear. Thanks for your continued imput!

Tracy... I owe this to Kathy Riordan (on her top 12).

It brought me back to a time where I thought the thrill of life's adrenaline and conquests were meant to be accomplished then later out of your system.. As I see the world in which we live today and the way relationships are becoming second nature to people's priorites and importance, I realized that it is an addition. That an affair is an addiction.

The thrill is short term that is why it is seeked on a repetitive basis.
I have to admit.. your comment was seriously the best bit of knowledge and advice for and to anyone who strives to continue down a selfish path for self fulfillment. You make it so clear that it is a high, andwhen it goes away, it is a low, and as it is seeked and found again, it is back up on that mountain. Looking down at those who will suffer from more strenuous pain.

Seriously... I am gracious for your comment. Thank you Thank you!!!
The problem here is that Mr. Crown is portrayed as a very handsome and attractive man in the film. Take that away and all the money in the world won't make him appealing...at all. Beautiful meditation, Ms. H. R
I Love reading your esssays on Life, shown through movie themes and analysis, Movie Jordan!! I've missed being here the past coupla weeks, and I really just Love getting back to this!! Right to the heart and Soul of it, as always!! Love, Julie
Interesting take, NJ. The thrill of it all? Not worth it. (Also, the wife would kill me. . . . . )
Thoth.. yep you got it... take into consideration if the man was unattractive and poor... it wouldn't be much of an affair without the art.

Julie.. yes, I've missed you!!! Glad to see you here. Thank you as always.

AtHomePilgrim.. yes.. bad move...thrill is just for the addicted, not necessarily the realist.
One of my favorite movies. Every human has the desire to be loved and that is what Thomas Crown was missing real love. Of course he could buy it but remember when he told her he had to see if what him she wanted or what he had. Of course we never get to see the real work they have to do stay together. We saw the chase.... and what a chase it was.... rated~~~
