A Lovely New Year's Breakfast

The Perfect Breakfast for a New Year

DSC05590

My New Year's wish for all of you is that you may enjoy such a breakfast at least once - a breakfast to comfort, to nourish, to love you back.  For me, the slightly-carbonized half-sausage (there are red pepper flakes in it - yum) and its accoutrements represent one of the greatest pleasures of my day.

Yes, that's half of a coarsely chopped raw jalapeno on top of the eggs. Hidden under the eggs is a chunk of Greek sheep's-milk feta and some chopped fresh ginger.  The split and toasted multi-grain english muffin is slathered with real butter and sprinkled liberally with a wonderful antioxidant, cinnamon.  The little tomatoes explode in your mouth - they are the perfect size.  The colors alone are enough to make me swoon.

On one side of the plate, a small glass of orange juice.  On the other side, a hot cup of black tea in a beautiful mug.  Under the food, even the plate whispers, "Je T'Aime, Je T'Aime."

Now, this is the perfect crowd to enjoy a breakfast with - grandchildren, grown kids, in-laws, neices, cousins, my husband, friends.  Although we chose an IHOP (close to the airport) for our final meal together that trip, and the breakfast food was not quite as perfect as the meal I described above, the food was good.  I cannot tell you what I ordered, or anything else that was ordered (even though I picked up the check), but I will say that the company, the round tables, and the California sun blazing in, made this breakfast just perfect.

Outside, after this breakfast, we gathered in the parking lot for hugs and more photos, arranging all six of the grandkids together, under a tree.  I think the tree was whispering, "Je T'Aime, Je T'Aime."

I'm off to make one of these breakfasts right NOW - for lunch!
wow! that looks terrific! I wouldn't say no if you were inclined to share!
I should eat breakfast more often!
It IS the most important meal of the day! Gets yer body started!
that sounds delicious. i never would think to use goat cheese and cinnamon in the same breath. i can't wait to try it!
I plan to make that breakfast this weekend. I need to get to know you experienced grandma of 6. I am an amateur grandmother of 4 under 2 1/2. My mom, grandmother of 15, died 5 years ago. I wish I had her phone number; I need lots of wise counsel.
