Celebrity Caricatures in Watercolor and Designers Gouache

Rate: 50 Flag

These don't truthfully qualify as caricatures.  They are more like celebrity portraits on cartoon bodies.  I used to do a lot of this kind of work for some big companies.  They would hire  me to do portraits like this of their retiring executives.

Then there was a flood.  But that's a whole 'nother story.

Enjoy.

These are amazing!

I epecially love Picasso and Stephen King.
You are so good. I love your take on John Lithgow, one of my faves.
You do know that Open Salon is looking for an art director right? I envy your talents Duane
Yeah, I liked the Lithgow, too. and Martin Landau.

Beautifully d0ne.
It will come as no shock to you that I think your Stephen King is brilliant!

Of course, all of them are great, but Uncle Stevie may have to live on my desktop for awhile.

Your talent is endless and I love that about you!
You never stop amazing me.
I particularly like Picasso, of course, and the whimsy of Drew Carey but they're all just great.

Picasso & King are my 2 faves. Ever read that Dr. Seuss story called "The Big Brag."? Picasso's face/expression has always reminded me of the worm's face in that story... If you've seen the pictures from that story, you'll know exactly what I mean.
These are so fab! Watercolor is soooo unforgiving. ( all of you non-artist types, TRUST me on this) I can't choose a fave, but Drew Carey, Picasso, Hanks and Lithgow made me actually linger and study. You are one UBER talent, Duaneart.
--rrraaated--
I had fun this morning scrolling down just enough to get the face and guessing (along with Lance)...for once my brain worked in conjunction with my mouth and I won! Thank you for this morning treat...and the bragging rights for the day!
John Lithgow is my favorite. Thanks for sharing, Duane.
Thank you for not drawing Martin Landau's teeth. They were way too big in real life. In a caricature, they would be freakishly haunting. What an artist. You. And Martin Landau, too. But he's dead now, isn't he?
I see a certain amount of whimsy here--I bet they were fun to create!
Highly rated. Familiar faces in an original style.
You're amazing. Is Stephen King's hair white these days? It's been so long since I've seen him.
Cool portraits! Hope all is well with you, HB
Man, Duane. You are goddamned good. I wish I could even draw stick people, but everytime I try, they look more like aliens than stick people. You have talent my friend, running out your, well, uhm, a, your ears.

When did you first realize you coud do this?
Rated for Scare U, alone. The rest was a wonderful bonus. Thanks for showing us.
I love these...they are old school...like portraits of people I knew as a kid...like retiring executives! Brilliant. xox
Fabulous! You really captured each of these celebs, from facial characteristics to the posturing and body language.
LOVE these! The lines look so simple...like I should be able to do that too. HAHA! How do you DO that?!?
Talented indeed! Again, I'm just amazed as I look at these pictures.
xoxo
Very, very cool. Just amazing. I loved the Picasso one.
Ha! Dennis Farina! These are wonderful.
Marvelous!! What an eye you have for faces!
All are amazing, but especially love Picacasso!
Cool. And I didn't even need the names underneath to recognize who they were.
I am so proud of you. Laughed aloud at Lithgow. Perfect.
You have so much talent - thanks for sharing it here.
You are so talented!
Duane, these are excellent paintings of the celebrities! I'll bet that the retired executives who were given your portraits have them hanging in a very prominent location in their homes.
Call them what ever you like, I call them fantastic!
Awesome!

Lithgow and King for me - too cool, man. Love your art.

peece,

Duane - your talent never ceases to amaze me. All of these are incredible - there is no way I could choose a favorite. Amazing!
Please tell me someone is paying you big bucks to do this somewhere else. You are way too talented to be hanging anywhere that I'm hanging. I love the first two especially.
I'm both amazed and laughing! These are wonderful, Duaneheart!!
I LOVE Picasso, but they are all amazing.
I can't choose a favorite. They are all excellent.
John Lithgow and Tom Hanks are especially wondeful!
Love Stephen King the best, but have to admit that the one of Drew Carey is quite cute from the waist down.

Thanks so much for sharing these with us!
These are (as always) amazing.
I love your work...I wish I could be artistic.
Thank you, everybody! Your comments make me feel appreciated. I am on vacation in Florida right now but I am doing short hit and runs on OS.

Just wanted you all to know how great you always make me feel and the smiles you bring to me.

Thank you Thank you Thank you!!!!
Love them all. You are so talented.
Enjoy your vacation.
These are great fun! I especially like the ones where you add a little something related to who they are - e.g. love the "Scare U" t-shirt on King. And Lithgow is wonderful!
I tried to draw a horse for my grandson once. He was four at the time. He looked at it, frowned at me, crumpled it into a ball and threw it in the trash. Thus ended my art career.
Hey dude. Get you ass back here to OS where it belongs. There ain't no vacations for OSers with talent like yours. You're gonna make the entire community suffer with depression and withdrawls man.

Is this any way to treat friends?? Huh???
You know my friend. You're gonna have to deal with some make up sessions with more incredible art and words ta make up fer this lapse of responsibility. You know that don't ya?
Wonderful! I've missed you, among a select few. Seeing these makes me glad to be back from my sexile.
envious of you eye-hand-brain interpretations!
You're truly amazing! I would love to hear your opinion concerning my daughter's art work. Even though her website is always evolving, when you have time, please take a look at some of her work and tell me if she has a chance! Thank you.

I always loved caricatures because you recognize the people by the expressions that in our mind we enlarge and make it them. Very talented I love it!
