HITCH - From My Sketchbook

 Christopher Hitchens 1949 - 2011

Christopher Hitchens

One of my heroes.  My favorite Christopher Hitchens book is  Letters to a Young Contrarian (Art of Mentoring).  I have a copy of it on my iPhone and computer and a couple soft cover copies - one in my backpack and one in my studio.

This is truly a sad day.

A hero of mine, too. Love the sketch.
You've really captured the man, Duane. He looks like he's delivering a devastating remark in a debate.
Fantastic likeness of one of the greatest of contemporary thinkers.
You must have done this in your sleep. Well done!!
HUGGGGGGGGGGGG
You are a wonderful artist. Thanks for this~r
Yay! Look at the Editor's Pick!
Well done. You captured his intensity.
Fine sketch. RIP Hitchens.
Congrats on EP and cover. Nice work D.
You nailed his essence.
That's an excellent sketch and you did catch his essence...

...but, I would have drawn him with no pants --- hey, that's part of my idiom.

.
I cannot countenance this Hitchens fealty. He would have killed you all and ordered lunch had it suited his purposes. We are exceptionally well rid of him.
I will miss this man and his writings. One-of-a-kind.
My hero as well D....this portrait is a lovely tribute to a very courageous man. A first-rate mind
Sad for us... got to imagine he might be relieved
One of my favorite writers. I didn't always agree with him. But he always made a good case. Open minded, enlightened. That counts for something. I wish I could have had a beer with him. Plus, he hated Lyndon LaRouche. That also counts for something.
I saw Chris with Gore Vidal in Berkeley in 1999. Both of them so brilliant and so funny. What a loss! I never could figure how he turned into a conservative. I'll miss his clarity and fervor.
What a loss, a great mind, a gifted linguist and a man of great humor. I am so entranced by Arguably at this time. Hitchens will be missed. I wonder if there will be one who can fill his shoes any time soon.
Great drawing. You captured him!. Rated
According to my husband, Hitchens once said that the day after he dies will be the only day the newspapers say nice things about him, and he won't be there to read it.
I think I gave my copy of this book to one of my students at the time. Even when you totally disagreed with him, he forced you to think and think and think again. Thinking for oneself ...
Here are a couple of good reads on the life of Christopher Hitchens: http://www.counterpunch.org/2011/12/16/farewell-to-c-h/ , and this, right here in Salon: http://www.salon.com/2011/12/17/christohper_hitchens_and_the_protocol_for_public_figure_deaths/

We live in a time where people are easily fooled. Very easily.
This truly is a loss for the world of letters and for, in my view, the world in general. He was terrific, eccentric, and, apparently, fearless. I sure will miss his work.
Wonderful sketch. His expression is perfect.
Nice writing. I think your website should come up much higher in the search results than where it is showing up right now...

Quality Web Design
i tried to like the guy because i'm an independent contrarian myself but thought he was a pompous gasbag 90 per cent of the time.
Damn, you're good. That portrait breathes.
Wonderful likeness of him. R.I.P. Hitch.
