dunniteowl's post-modern philosophical musings

- Matriculated from:
School of Hard Knocks and
Diablo Valley College (AA in Communications Tech.)
Done all kinds of things for work. Painted sidewalk curb address numbers, sold shoes, USAF Radio Electronics Tech, Semiconductor Tech for AMD, Intel & SEEQ Technologies, worked at Stanford Linear Accelerator upgrading motherboards for Beam Current Magnet Control, IBM building "Industrial Strength" Voice Activated Dialing networks, server systems and intranets, sold greeting cards, nuts, grapes, newspapers and found pets, janitored, worked in fast foods, pizza and data entry.
I even clerked at a 7-11 and also ran a big searchlight for those events at night. Also worked at a zoo, where I pretty much did everything you can do at a zoo other than be eaten. Some of those critters do bite.
I write and have been since 1972. I have written poetry, fantasy, science fiction and horror stories. I also have come to enjoy essays relating to human experience, the future and being good stewards of this planet.
I believe I'm funny sometimes, so chuckle occasionally at my weird jokes and allusions. Very into science and technology, love logic and reason. For some reason, though, I am also a certified Shaman. I can cast horoscopes and read Tarot cards as well (from the expressions on people's faces and their responses, I am apparently quite accurate most of the time.)
Love photography: You can find me here:
(if those don't work properly, just go to the main pages and do a search for 'dunniteowl' I am the only one on the internet as far as I know.)
I also love game design, starting with board wargames, card games and RPGs.
Please comment if you feel like it. I don't care about being "tipped" and don't even really understand it as a function. I signed up on Open Salon so I could have a wider outlet for my writing and hope that you find it of interest at all.
This bio is a reflection of things to come, so be prepared.

The air was dank, full of humidity. It felt like breathing water, it was so thick. Three A. M. and it had to be at least 85 degrees Fahrenheit! Did I mention the humidity? Holy shit, I felt like I should have gills!

When I was a kid, my older brother and I used to do all sorts of things for making some cash. We lived in Napa, California at that time and we lived in what could only described as Ruralurbia. It wasn’t quite being in the suburbs and it wasn’t really… Read full post »
Yeah, I went there. I took an opportunity to increase my viewer ship with a shameless plug of Open Salon in my title. I'm not sorry or ashamed. Did I mention this was a shameless plug?
Okay, before I lose my audience:
Many times, during political and cultural discussions regarding the status quo, business, political activity or even the charged events going on around us, you’ll hear the last words of the argument: It doesn’t matter how you feel about it or what you say, no-one&/… Read full post »
I have spoken before on the things that are wrong in the world today. We have all sorts of things that could kill us in some fashion. We have people and corporations, seemingly hell bent on controlling the world as it crumbles down around our heads. Crumbling because of their selfis/… Read full post »
I was thinking out loud this morning about Ron Paul. We hear he’s an extreme-to-the-right Constitutionalist who believes many things that resonate with the younger crowd, with neo-conservatives who think guns and no-taxes will make our country great again.&… Read full post »
You know, we hear lots of ideas and advice about how things should be done, how finances, laws, ethics and whatever else you want to toss in there really ought to be done – instead of the way it is now. Right behind these ideas and opinions, or right before them,/… Read full post »
Since man first started planting crops and penning in animals to ensure a food supply, cities began to flourish and grow. Agriculture is the single most important advance in mankind’s long climb towards civilization. Animal husbandry, while different, today… Read full post »
I usually get up before the sun. I do it because I like to watch the sunrise. Sometimes it comes up, highlighting the sky with rosy gold fingers across the sky, touching the gray clouds and coloring them with sherbet colored hues of orange, rose and pink.

Let me start by saying right away, that, from my perspective, Meritocracy is more a myth than Trickle Down or Supply Side Economics as a functional metric.
Without digging too deeply on those other issues, let me see if I can explicate what Meritocracy is supposed to be and what it… Read full post »
To those of you who read this site, OWS, Occupy and 99% should be well familiar terms, even if you hate what it stands for. If you're part of the 01% (or really the .01%) and the very thought of OWS, Occupy or the rest of us poor sorry unwashed bastards… Read full post »
I have been listening to a wide array of “sources” talking about OWS and other Occupy Actions around the country. I will state up front, that I am certainly part of the 99%. I am skilled, educated, over 50 and unemployed, as well as basically unemployable in any of my trained/… Read full post »

It was a click. I know it was. I heard it, but no-one believes me. They think me mad. Fools! All of them, they shall go to their graves unbelieving and I; I will survive to record the events of their demise.

Correct me if I’m wrong,
But I thought this was a song
About how the masses of people
Forgot how to feel
Long before the invention
Of the wheel.
Now we race along in automated cars,
Smoke, in the haze of memory:
It is only time.
Time is the only medication
That has, as it’s cause, forgetfulness;
Healing through time,
Working to heal, through loss, the pain.
Yet, it is the individual that forgets
That will repeat the same mistakes
In blissfully unaware health.… Read full post »

I felt so close to the answer last night
Laying beneath the canopy of black on shadow-black-on-blue starlight.
The warm thoughtsong of how beautiful it all is
Streamwhispered into my consciousness with a soft moonshining bliss
I wasn’t cold
I was just skipping some thoughts across my mind,
Watching the ripples slowly push their way outward
Until they touch.
I wasn’t really thinking of much, they were the kind
That bring the boarders of reality to infinity h… Read full post »
