Friday night on Open Saloon!

Rate: 31 Flag

Well friends, I don't know about you, but all the insanity floating around about Obama's education speech and healthcare reform has just about driven me around the bend.  I don't hold out much hope for this nation when we have people like Oklahoma's rethug Sen. Jim Inhofe proudly making such statements as: “I don’t have to read it, or know what’s in it. I’m going to oppose it anyways!”  I'm thinking we need a little relief from the slough of despond, so everybody come on over to my virtual porch and I'll whip up your drink of choice. Shall we start with a nice round of blue margaritas?

How about some chips and salsa:

I'll pass out the lampshades:

We can choose our own adventure:

Savage Chickens - Friday Night

Lastly, we can invite some redneck birthers over and kick some butt!!

Savage Chickens - The Gathering

So - come on over  - BYOB, your favorite party tune, and your lampshade and let's get down!

Oh - and by the way: "No one should die because they cannot afford health care, and no one should go broke because they get sick. " (better late than never) And maybe the cautionary "watch your back" needs to be amended to "watch your finger"!

I LOVE those chicken comics!!
Diva are you on facebook?
Delightful. I have a lovely lampshade that I've been dying to wear. It'll be easier to put on than my tie now that my pinkies have been taken.
Lampshades are so damn expensive. I'll get one at Goodwill. All of this health care talk is bending my brain. Chips and salsa will do me good. Cute post.
I could use a drink and kickin' butt is right up my alley. Party! I'm a fun drunk but I look like shite in a lampshade.
Definitely diving into a Blue Margarita! I love those chickens....
Had to run out for a bit - we have pizza now!

Hi Julie! Glad you like the chickens (shhh don't tell anyone, but they are Canadian so they are super-subversive) I am on facebook occasionally - PM me!

mypsyche - my condolences on the loss of your pinkies! Lampshades require much less maintenance than a tie!

Latethink - goodwill lampshades are the bomb. We do need a break from health care hysteria for a few hours - and lots of salt.

Life is Good - I think there is a lampshade to suit every face shape. Come on over - I bet we could find just the right one. (After we do some ass kickin' - first things first!)

Hi aim! Good to see you - best thing about virtual margaritas - they are bottomless!
Delightful indeed! And so good to see you post! I'll take one of the those blue margaritas please!!!! bwawk-bwawk-bwawk... hehehehehehehe
Yay Diva! Make my blue margarita a double; I need a break from this dumb old slough of despond:)
I'm toasting to the long weekend to be the BIG BLOWOVER, and everyone can get back to being funny/stupid again. Cheers Nanatehay, DustBowlDiva, H-Julie, mypsyche, latethink, LifeIs Good and screamin' mama - I'm enjoying my Friday night in such good company.
This is JUST what the doctor ordered, dustbowl! Me likey blue margaritas and chips. I have rack of lamb on the grill as we speak and a bottle of Artemis Stag's Leap Cabernet Sauvignon breathing. Anybody want to have some asparagus...? xoxo
Another great thing about virtual parties - the porch is always big enough for everybody.

Screamin' - great to see you. Hope your kiddos have gotten off to a good start with school - kick your feet up here and cluck as long as you like!

Nanate - you know I only serve doubles around here don't you?

Trig - Good to see you. Wish you lived close enough you could build us one of your real life decks!

Aim - I will toast to that! Raising my glass as well, and I couldn't agree more about the fine company!
Cartouche - did you say lamb? AND Cabernet Sauvignon? This evening just keeps getting better and better.
Just make sure you save me a lampshade with fringes. You need to have some fringes if you're going to belly dance.
Eva T. - I know we have some fringe around here somewhere. Think you could you give us beginners a bellydancing lesson?

JK - You're right about us 'merikans having issues, but fear not - we can party with the best of you Canadians. And thank you - I would love some pheasant and pistachio pate.
Diva, it´s so good to see you around! The food and drinks look great, and I am already imagining lampshades on everyone´s head. Plus, the chickens are the best!
Kisses and good fun!
Marcela
I'm waiting for the lampshade-wearer caged death matches. Wooo-hooooooo!!!
I'll have some of cartouche's cab. Hey! Woman! Let go of that bottle...
I'll be over in a jiff!
Hey, Dusty!

I'm on my way to Yukon, Oklahoma! Where ever that is. I'm surely in a mood for anything blue with alcohol in it right now. And the salsa and dips look out of this world. Skip the chips. Just give me a spoon!

And that Jim Inhofe. What a peach that guy is. How many times that guy been reelected? I don't know either, but it's a lot! What a waste of voting ballots.

Wish I could really be there. Have a great Labor Day weekend in my absence. I'm heading to West Palm Beach to be with some great friends, so I'll toast a blue margarita in your honor. Salute!
Marcela - thanks - I'm glad to shove the textbooks under the bed for a few hours. You know - the right lampshade really does make the outfit.

Trey - I'm ready and waiting for the same thing, let me tell ya'. I think with the crowd we've got here the redneck's going down.

VR - think we have another fight on our hands now.

Voicegal - we'll be here - not so sure about the Cabernet though.
I'm still at work. :-(

But I'll have one of everything!
Good post to kick-off the long weekend!
Be safe! Be drunk if you want to! Have fun!
Hi Michael - it's been my experience that a blue drink can brighten almost any day. Yeah, Inhofe is horrible, though some of our local politicians are even worse if you can believe it. But we won't talk about that now - think I need a refill. Enjoy West Palm Beach you lucky dog!
Hi spotted - work?! on a Friday night?! How sad - certainly we will send one of everything your way. And not to worry - no one's driving;)
Hey...look at me...I bring two drinks with me....
I loved this.. Thank you so much for this post. The last statement is so true.
Pass me a coke a cola and a lamp shade..
JK - lovely post - thank you!

Trilogy - There have been times I needed a drink in each hand myself. Glad you could drop by!

Hey Fireeyes - lampshade and coke coming your way. And that last statement bears repeating doesn't it?
oooohhhh..lampshades! i'll have a virgin pina colada with extra virgins...xox
Robin - I needed that laugh. Think we can do the virgin pina colada - not so sure we can find any extra virgins, however :p
I just got back from my meeting, so I'll pass on the blue margaritas. (But trust someone with experience in such matters. If you are gonna drink tequila, just drink the tequila and leave the sugar out of the mix. You'll thank me tomorrow.)

Pass the chips!
I'm coming over.....NOW!
Please pass the chips. The whole thing is driving me nuts, too -- especially the bruhaha over the education speech. As for Inhofe -- well, don't even get me started.
dang, I missed the party! Can we do it again next weekend? (There's sure to be a bit of crazy this week too).
Well, the next best thing about virtual parties - no hangover and no mess the next morning (okay - maybe a little mess)

jimmymac - oh I hear you about the dangers of mixing sugary substances with tequila, though I think the blue coloring counteracts the effects of sugar. One of my worst hangovers occurred following a party where apple juice and tequila were mixed in a pumpkin shell. This was years ago, but I could dry heave if I just think about that too long.

Patricia - glad you dropped by:)

Steve - nice to see a fellow suffering Okie. I promise I won't ever mention Inhofe again - don't want anyone having hypertension issues while visiting my blog.

Lainey - you didn't miss anything - you were fashionably late. Unfortunately, I think you are right about the coming week being a crazy one - we better start making party plans today.
I only drink on random occasions every few years, but I agree, this calls for a White Russian or Irish Coffee! Too bad I only have the half-and-half on hand. But I’m sure I can at least round up a lampshade ;-)

—Melissa
You had me at blue margaritas ;0)
I could definitely use a party with some chickens. In fact, I look just like a chicken when I dance, so I should fit in very well... especially after one of those beautiful blue margaritas!
What about some music too. Ought to be Oklahoma's own J.J. Cale don't you think?
Just want to thank all my recent visitors -

Love Grandma - mmm haven't had Irish Coffee in a mighty long time.

Dorinda - the allure of a blue margarita can't be underestimated!

Annette - you would enjoy yourself around here - we do the chicken dance quite regularly, and it is a staple at the local Czech day celebration!

H. Greek - J.J. Cale would be fabulous! Great suggestion:)
Damn! I missed another party. Story of my life. I hope it was a great "wing-ding". I could have brought my instant Karioke machine...just add tequila and a willing participant. The GOP is suckin' wind and they know it. Most of can't read anyway so it's a waste of their precious tee time. Great pics! Now I'm hungry again. Rated & Cheers to you!
I haven't mentioned this yet on my own blog. My COBRA extension time is up on October 31st. Spooky! I am plum out of luck after that.

"When all hope is lost - party with chickens." I like your style!

Hope
Well diva, my Okie friend. I'd love to show up, but I don't drink, the puritans have hijacked our politics, so I can't carry weed across state lines, and Oklahoma cops from many towns would line up along the border chompin at the bits to get even a piece of me for all the rucous I caused as a kid.

I will, however, be sure to wear a lampshade in honor of your party. I'm sure my wife will have no questions :-)
Can I wear a Toga? Please?
