Harry Reid is having a tiny bit of success moving a few of the pieces of Obama’s jobs bill through the Senate, and Obama has seen a recent uptick in his polls since he’s pushed his “Americans can’t wait” theme, but Republicans have no reason to budge on the big issues unless there’s a big swing in public sentiment in favor of Obama. The strategy, for now, remains the same–run out the clock until next November–no matter how many people it hurts, how much it delays economic recovery. The guy in the White House gets the blame when things are bad, no matter what the real causes, and the GOP understands this all too well.

obama has worse conditions, not least in the national mood and morale. and a fair few of the chumps are determined not to be lied to a second time, so the issue is very much in doubt.
if you're falling into a wood-chipper, fast or slow doesn't matter much, so romney might be as good a prez as americans deserve.
