- Bio
- I’m a child of God, a daughter, a sister, a wife, a mother, a teacher, a friend, and I have been blogging since 2006.
Over at my other site, History Is Elementary, I have a wealth of postings regarding historical content, lesson ideas, opinions regarding education, and even some personal musings. I also maintain Georgia on My Mind, which is a website hub for Georgians who blog, contains postings regarding the state of Georgia and her history, and I organize the bi-monthly Georgia Carnival every other week. As a child of God I also blog about Biblical history, archaeology, and my own journey through Scripture at the blog Got Bible?. Finally, I’m one of the contributors to the American President's Blog.
Since 1998, I have been an educator….coming into the profession a bit late due to my job as a wife and mother and via a career as a paralegal. Once my youngest began school, I began teaching. I have taught fourth and fifth grade mainly in a departmentalized setting where students changed classes and teachers could focus on their areas of content strength. Luckily I have always had an administrator who understood at first glance that my passion was history, and it has been a joy and an honor to bring America’s story to hundreds of children west of Atlanta. I also enjoy bringing history to the world at large through my postings at History Is Elementary.

A Real Apology
Two questions keep coming up…..
Should the United States government formally apologize for slavery?
Should various former slave-holding states formally apologize for the horrendous practice of slavery?
As of March, 2008 six states have apologized for slavery….Florida/… Read full post »
Dr. King: The India Connection
I've written before that students often arrive in my room having seen the same MLK videos, having completed the same MLK worksheets, and read the same MLK books in order to celebrate certain milestones in the American Civil Rights Movement or Dr. King’s birthday. After discussing the situation… Read full post »
Found: Rare Bugatti Sportscar
Recently a rare Bugatti sportscar was found in a garage in Britain. The car, an extremely rare 1937 Bugatti Type 57S Atalante, was owned by a doctor who did drive the car for a time, but had stored the car since the 1960s in his garage.

When I teach the English colonies I tend to follow the same format teachers do all across the United States. Before discussing the original 13 colonies we hit on major firsts for all the heavy-hitting players—Spain’s first settlements, the first settlements for France, and then we b/… Read full post »
Hmmm....I Wish I Had Thought of This First
Back in September of 2005, on the first day of school, Martha Cothren, a social studies teacher at Robinson High School in Little Rock, did something not to be forgotten. On the first day of school, with the permission of the school superintendent, the principal, and the building supervis/… Read full post »
The Culture of No Fail Failure
This bailout thing has me pissed off…royally. How has the greatest nation on earth….the nation that can do anything….the nation that was forged when a group of so called rabble-rousers stood up to the King of England…the nation that mobilized one of the greatest figh/… Read full post »
$24 Million Later...
I’ve been in the middle of home renovations for what seems like forever. New hardwood floors, new appliances, updated furniture, etc. We get one room halfway cleaned up, and it’s time to tear another one down not to mention the decisions on color, fabric, and window treatments/… Read full post »
And the Gotchas Continue...
I’m so tired of the never-ending round of Palin “gotchas”. Enough already.
I did find Charles Krauthammer’s post from the Washington Post to be quite interesting mainly because it shed a little more light on what some think was a “gotcha” and pro/… Read full post »
Everyone has there own story regarding the moment they learned that the Twin Towers had been attacked. This is my “Where were you?” story.
September 11, 2001 began like any other September school day; however, it was abnormally quiet since T.’s seat was uncharacter… Read full post »
More Campaign Ads
Back in February during the height of the Presidential Primary process I created an article with several campaign ads and discussed a method to engage students in a method of comparing and contrasting ads. Within the last few days both of the ads I present here today have appeared in my… Read full post »
Way back in June, 2007 I visited Mississippi and toured the home of James A. Quitman of “Halls of Montezuma” fame. Pictures from Quitman’s home, Monmouth, can be seen here while you can learn more about Quitman’s service to his county here. While I don’t agree with… Read full post »
