NCIS and It Gets Better

Rate: 1 Flag

Tuesday night, I watched the new episode of NCIS.  I love NCIS; Gibbs is hot, and the characters are fantastic.  Last night it was about a high school student who wanted to join the navy. The young man is gay and from that, heartrending tragedy arises.  The show was supportive of gay rights and for the final demise of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell.  Gibbs did a fine job of leaving us with a sense of hope.

Then this morning I read the following:

Update: Teenager Death; Friends Say Bullying May be to Blame

According to his Facebook page, Lundsten was openly gay. On a Facebook memorial page in Lundsten's honor, friends said that Lundsten had been bullied at school for his sexual orientation. Some students who knew Lundsten believed the bullying may have led to his death.

This breaks my heart. In half.  In pieces.  Tiny ones. I have two children; they are both well, have homes, and bright futures.  Other children do not.

When an editor of a publishing concern offered to publish my book, Elijah Rising, he said he was taking the book on to “get your story out.”  I am donating some of the royalties from the sale of the book – coming out in March  - to the Ali Forney Center in New York. (More information coming about the book later and its purpose) Who is Ali Forney?

Theres always been bullies, I was bullied when I would start a new school. But, with these computers and Facebook and Emails it just so easy to hurt someone, never thinking they will kill themselves. I wonder how they sleep after they've done this.
No one should have to hide. This is a failure of our higher nature to overcome the lower animal hatred of non-self.
