Are you a member of LibraryThing? If you’re an avid reader and are interested in writing book reviews, LibraryThing.com has an awesome program for you. In fact, this month Finally Out: Letting Go of Living Straight, A Psychiatrist’s Own Story is featured. We’re giving away a total of 50 copies of the book to reviewers. As of the first day that February reviews opened, 168 reviewers have already requested the book. Requests for review close on February 28th, and LibraryThing will use its in-house formula for deciding which 50 reviewers get a copy of Finally Out.

Words & Music, a Literary Feast in New Orleans will open November 9, 2011 and run through November 14.  The 2011 theme selected is Literature & Life in the Global Village: Learning to Live with One Another Through Literature with presenters focusing on U.S., Caribbean, Latin American, European, Middle Eastern, and Eastern literature. The primary venue for the festival's literary discussions will be the Hotel Monteleone, the only hotel designated a National Literary Landmark in New Orleans and one of only a handful nationwide.  The festival will once again encompass all facets of literature—fiction, non-fiction, and poetry—journalism and current events, live drama, cinema, music, and the wonderful cuisine of New Orleans.

Watch our web site for details.  For now, please save the dates and plan to attend.  Tentative scheduling includes workshops for writers and a master class for students, along with  presentation of papers on theme-related subject matter. Master classes and agent/editor consultations will begin on November 10 and theme sessions will open with a keynote address that evening. Literature & Lunch sessions will begin on November 10 as well. Theme programming will continue through the weekend, interspersed with agent/editor meetings and presentation of papers. Evening events will include a welcome cocktail party, Jazz After Hours, with a focus this year on Latin rhythms, and Faulkner for All!  We will begin announcing speakers and more specific programming details late next month both by e-mail and on our web site.  For early information, e-mail us.

We look forward to your participation.

Best regards,
Rosemary James, Faulkner Society and Words & Music

Gee, we have NaNoWriMo and NaBloPoMo but I see there are other competitions which award money. Does that put a twinkle in one's eye?

Thanks for the reminder: "You are not a writer if you don't read."
You are like our own private library online. Thank you for this.
More, more! Love this post. (I posted a comment a moment ago that seems to have evaporated in cyberspace... anyway)
You, too can find me on Library Thing, a favorite site. In fact, I have a freebie right here on my desk - half eaten and still waiting review.
(BUZZ: A Year of Paying Attention, by Katherine Ellison.)

Great resource, Lyn. I'm bookmarking it. Thomas Wolfe. ;-|
Oh, Theresa, thanks for this. It's new and wonderful....I worked my way through college as a "reader for the blind," so I'm into this!
Thanks for all this. Just had a talk this am with Brian over coffee and toast about publishing. Heard about a young girl doing a fine job without regular methods, kind of inspiring. She is on the best seller list, her most expensive e book, 2.99.
Bookmarked and rated. Thank you very much.
Elijah.. nothing but goodness and smarts comes from your blog each day. Okay I will be honest could not do the US History quiz as we learned only the basics in Canadian schools..
I also like the Writer's Market Book that comes out each year.

Elijah, I love your reminders. Literature is surely a mirror of the soul. I am constantly impressed by the vitality of good writers and the inspiration they provide.
Yes, you guessed him....Thomas Wolfe...oh! Lost!
What an invaluable post! Thanks so much.
I have Guttenberg and Aldiko on my Android and have downloaded several books.

You do a great service here, and thanks.

Oh my. I'll be spending some time here! Thank you so much. And I see that one of my favorite writers names has already been guessed. And I mean favorite as in going to Asheville to see the grave favorite. Favorite as in "Lost by the wind grieved ghost come back!" Favorite as in . . .ok I'll stop!
I guessed Wolfe first. ;-D
