Be conscious of your actions or the recipe for life will never succeed.

Today college Republicans were selling cupcakes and cookies priced according to the buyer's race to highlight opposition to a bill they believe would overturn the state's ban on affirmative action.

Please read my best friend Kevin Armys great post on todays bakesale.

Good to see you back in here posting. As for that bake sale, well it is indeed strange times we live in now, isn't it.
Great job my good friend!! I love seeing it through your eyes, it's a different perspective. Thanks for being there!!
I read and rated Kevin's post!!

Rated yours too, and commented!! :D

HI!!!
I'm confused. Republicans are for diversity? What gives? Are the Democrats against it? How were the cupcakes? Republicans bake with lard, you know.
I look at those college republicans and I see stupid...this was good PS it's be a long time

http://open.salon.com/blog/elijah_rising/2011/09/27/go_down_moses_-this_book_is_not_the_help
Torman.. When i got up this morning Kevin called and suggested this. I had already fallen out of my slippers onto to the floor, had a fire on the stove and had toilet paper hanging out of my pj's. This was the last thing on my mind hahahah
Yeah, this bummed me out. I didn't even know Republicans sent their kids to Berkeley. A sad and misguided protest, in my opinion. ~r
I am going to watch your video now kevin and thanks for asking me:)

Tink: we needed you today.. all these college newspaper people were working on the computers OUTSIDE.. Us older folk had to come home and do it there hahah
Chicken Maan; HOW IN THE HECK DID YOU DO YOUR JOB???:)
Without Zoloft?? This was a game today to get this piece up and no way- no how would I work for a newspaper.. I am still shaking.
Elijah yes it has.. the game was on today and OS was where Kevin said we should post it..
HUGGGGGGGGG
Great to see you here! The photo essay is very good. We're fighting with our demons as human beings right now. How prescient of JK Rowling!
Rei: JK should rule the world hahaha
Perfect post, so happy to see you here. I just heard about this on NPR on my way home today. You are always on the mark, great photos.
rated with love
The guy with the sign has it right. With out African-Americans and slavery this country would not be where it is today. They supplied all the labor, free, and we reaped the profits. I don't feel like eating anymore!
JoanH: stupid stupid stupid..You are protesting and not allowed to speak? See Kevins video.. RIDICULOUS..

Romantic Poetess.. You can thank Kevin... he convinced me hahaha
Christine: WTH is right.. These kids do not know how to protest and I told them so hahaha

Scanner: I wish you had been there.. we could have taught these youngins a thing or three
This has been all over the media; so, any chocolate chip cookies? Oh wait. Baked by republicans, they probably added paranoia, fear and definately vinegar!
marsha.. the cookies were store bought hahahaha
Linda!!!!!!!! HUGGGGGGG!!!!
Sigh, when will they ever learn. Hopefully they'll wind up eating some conscious cupcakes and come to.

BTW, I have been praying for you to come back and I hope things are less stressful for you now that you're home again. I know I can find you elsewhere but something about seeing you here just cheers me. The world seems a very cheerless place. I hope you stay. I love you.
ahhh sir robert and bleue.. you can thank my friend Kevin for me being here today..
He is my BFF..:)
Don't know what to say about the cupcakes, but nice to see you back, Linda! I still haven't blogged anything yet; I've been on the fence about it. Maybe I will now.
rin.. not necessarily back but will drop in from time to time.. Like I said.. thank kevin today..:)
These "Republicans" just need a good beating!! I CAN BEAT THEM!! And steal their cupcakes!!! I WANT CUPCAKES!!!!!!
Is it really you? Hope you're here to stay. The world needs more Lindas.
Wow, who knew college Republicans give free whine with every cookie?
Great commentary in pictures and in words! It just gets curiouser and curiouser........
Have to vote, I rated both posts, but your photo montage carried a most diversifed (and dignified) coverage - Harry Potter for President!
Of course republicans are for diversity their jobs are outsourced not given to illegal “immigrants”
over 700 views in 3 hours, not bad Linda!
Nana: one box coming up..:)
Sarah: I will drop in once in awhile.. Today it was a challenge from kevin..:)

Another Steve: That's just it.. NO whine.. They were not allowed to speak.. If you look at kevins video they had a REP:)

Painting.. Those Harry Potter guys had MY respect..:)
Jack Heart: One day we must meet.. You are far too clever for words

Kate: not checking rates.. I did not send this out to anyone but maybe 4 people on regular email..
I have changed a lot since I left.... I remember a word of a fellow blogger..
"I see who shows up and thats that..:)"
I am grateful.
I am always grateful for those who show up and read.. I am just a little more spread out these days..:)
Thank you for coming.. HUGGGGGGGGG
I've spent very little time on OS lately, but am THRILLED that today I found you here. Great photo essay, loved seeing all the college kids smiling at you. (hug!)
Schmoopie.. it was kevin.. you know why they were smiling at me??
Cause i told them about the 60's and how WE did it. They thought it was funny.:)
Hi Linda. I mentioned on Kevin's blog that I thought it was a clever protest, even though I support affirmative action. But the gagged students makes me suspect that they must be real loonies, so much so that even the campus republican leadership recognized them as such. Thanks for the pics.
Abrawang..When we had a protest in the 60's we all spoke. I was shocked and dismayed that they were not allowed to speak as we have worked for free speech for all.
HUGG nice to see you
Some of those poster messages ruined my appetite. But seeing you here is delicious, nonetheless.
HUGGGGGGGGGGGG Ms M... Miss you much
I don't know what its about, but good to see you Linda.
Ms. Linda,
My radar didn't catch your avatar first time around. Not too much diversity in the above crowd that I see. More publicity stunt than protest. Plus, the gag order caught on Kevin's video; "freedom of speech but not allowed to talk." Hope it's not coming to a university campus here anytime soon.

At least, for your walk, the sun was out. Sunny here today too. :)
great post & pics Linda......runs to read Kevin's blog.........
Hugs A Walrond
Scarlett: They had a DIE IN hours later where 100's of student dressed in black laid down.. Very fashionable protesting
..:)

artydi: Kevins video is a must
OMG You're back!!!

Everyone, this woman has great stuff on Zoomers!!!!

Good to see you here...
and there.

(I knew it!)

Rated ....D.
I am so glad to see you here!!! Super great post too!!!!!! WONDERFUL.
ahhh Dianne.. I will post from time to time but not every day.. I still come here every day to read.

Sheila: You can thank Kevin hahaha
Great job, Linda; always good to see you. R
Thanks Thoth.. always nice to see you here too.:)
Hiiiii Lindaaaaa!

Loved this, but I'm finding it all very confusing. I'd just be eating free stuff. :)
I think I just lost my appetite. Great to see you here Linda.
Sweetfeet: Nothing was gluten free hahaha
Trilogy.. yep it was pretty strange
Kids these days...why, back in the day...oh, forget it...don't want to show my age..
Nice post and great photos...
It's great to see you here - and what an important topic - I had no idea about any of this!
This is perfect, Linda and I'm delighted to see your pieces here again. r.
This was told in a way only you could, Linda. I am so happy to see you back. The calibre of this place has just increased a hundred fold in my opinion.
Linda ~ this sure beats the botulism bake-off I posted about last year! Thanks for the illuminating and fascinating photo essay and congratulations on the EP! It's always wonderful to see you back with a new post on OS!
I have seen several others post a "photo" essay, but so far, this is the one that makes the most sense that isn't an 'artistic' or 'travelogue' style representation. Well done, Linda!

And were you actually right there? In Berzerkely? Wow, I miss living in the Bay Area. I attended several protests right there on campus myself "back in the day."
-r-
Rugrat: Knowing you.. you would have been in a bar on Euclid st hahaha

Alysa: Thanks to kevin I am here.. HUGGGGGGG

Jon: HUGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG
Miguela... thanks so much.. you know how much I love you all..
Designanator: I got up and fell out of my slippers..:)
Duneitowl: These kids today dont know how to protest. I saw one old hippie laughing at them hahaha
Are you back Linda?
Congrats on the EP!
I was on the Berkeley campus a week ago and I didn't notice any republicans. When did they start letting them in? I think these were plants flown in by the Tea Party.

Lezlie
Susie: As you well know I am on a few places and happy actually.. Like Vivian's post today said.. when one door closes another opens.. BUT Kevin decided we should do this and his blog is most excellent.
I told Steve maybe once a week.. we shall see but you know how much I love you.
Lezlie.. there must have been a busload dropped off
Kevin thanks for being my friend and pushing me hahah
What cool shots of the strangest bake sale I've ever heard of...what is up with those folks?
Nice to 'sort of see' your lovely self here... : )
Just thinking.. you need to watch kevins video.. even weirder.. yup I will be back once a week
This post and the event so illustrate what ails us! Great job with this and how well you covered this event! Awesome! Now, I want me some cupcakes!!!
I commented over on Kevin's piece about how I am not even remotely surprised that they were not allowed to talk -- it's the right wing way. Kevin interviewed a woman named Naomi who voiced my thoughts exactly.

Always great to see you posting on here, Linda (and it's cool that you were in the video).
I am always on the wrong side of this one. I have a grand idea. Let's drop everything else that concerns itself with the education system in favor of this cause of creating higher levels of diversity in favor of whatever the standard of explanation is presently.

So what they should do is take the lowest common denominator and lower everything to the level of that category. That way every category would be the same and they would have equality. Right? They listed the number of enrolled of each category on one of those signs.

Now for something even less appropriate. My friend is Brazilian. She doesn't fit any of those categories not being hispanic or which ever is not listed as latino herself although her father was by birth Mexican. Oh and I also have this French girl that is a friend of mine and she is white.... so she doesn't fit any of the quotas except being white... which is what I am.

So since I am white and I am the same as everybody else that is white we need to weed more of me out to fit the quota. Let us use any tactic possible to do so, including slander....
wait. I guess I am getting personal at that point. I thought it would be good to spend taxpayers money in better ways that regulating quotas. I vote we fix the road so that people like me can equally access the store down the street and that I don't have too many potholes to ride over on my bike that might cause me to spill over and lose my oranges the way Bamber did in Sylvia Path's story.
I am a racist. It is the new term by which someone of social standing can call you and have you lynched. This is a category that someone can have you placed in at birth and if not at a very young age. I have also been called a hater and then the girl ducked into her car as some friends pretending to be strangers had hoped I would scream the word.... ni'''r at her...... of course being called a racist and hater are not inappropriate and not regulated in anyway. Of course this is a gang that inhabits a church in NYC and Kansas that has stalked me and those don't exist by law because they not only include clergy of the southern baptist church but police officers and NAACP members and other people of higher social standing that turn their swords against the common foe of white america.

Sorry, I was born on the wrong side of this one.
I am sorry. I know it is highly inappropriate. but I just cant understand what a group of ten blacks of various ages some old enough to drive to the site needed with me walking home from 3rd grade waiting for me with a double edged knife pulled asking for me by name but not being able to recognize my face.

I also don't understand what a handgun has a practical use besides using it on a person. It is pretty clear. YOu can kill somebody with a screwdriver or a meatthermometer but you can't pound a nail in with a handgun, take a temperature, saw off the limb of a tree or screw in a screw.

I think their intention was clear.
Strange bake sale indeed. Just when I think I've seen everything. Great post, Linda. Your photo essay speaks volumes. RR
glad to se u back - heading over to your friend'spost and his vid .rateand a hug
