We are the lucky ones. My heart goes out to Japan today.

Crescent City has the exact harbor shape (a crescent ) to create devastation, they have an unprotected harbor filled with shrimp boats, the southern part of the commercial area is right along the shore, but no news here yet of damage from any higher waves. Waves of 6-7 feet were expected, but it's the relentlessness of the inland surges that cause the worst trouble.
My heart goes out to the people of Japan, what a terribly strong earthquake. This earthquake was 8.9, the highest recorded earthquake is 9.5, in Chile, 1960.
