Open Call: Have you ever feared Armageddon?

Rate: 6 Flag

As many of you know, the end is nigh! (Rapture is slated for tomorrow, in fact, so very nigh indeed).

Or so a California-based Christian radio host named Harold Camping and his ecclectic set of followers would have you believe. Last night over on big Salon, we ran a piece by my colleague Steve Kornacki about how he fell for Camping's Doomsday schtick last time around, back in 1994 (to Steve's credit, he was a young and impressionable teen at the time). So, now that the end may well be upon us (again!), it's time to fess up: Have you ever bought into a doomsday prophecy? Were you ever convinced we were headed for Armageddon? Are you secretly convinced that Camping is right about May 21, 2011? Blog about here on Open Salon.

Be sure to tag your posts "my armageddon fear" and try to post them by 6pm EDT tonight. After all, who knows if any of us will be around to read them next week. (Full disclosure: I likely will. I think my lifelong atheism probably confirms my spot among the left behind.)

Emily: If an earthquake occurs tonight in NZ, I am going to start writing my heart out so something will be "left behind" !
rated with hugs
Emily, the way the site has been running lately, can we push the dead line up a bit, maybe next Christmas?

Hahaha. Like you would read anything I would write anyways!! ;D

Happy End of the World!!!!

~group hug~

I'll save ya all a spot down by the Sulphur Lake in Hell!! :D
No. Guess I missed the memo.
no.

bec Kalikaal began and we know we are knee deep in wrong doing and there will be a change - it's happened all the time in human history over a certain time periods.
and this time wont be any diff only it isnt going to happen this month as I have a deadline and the children have their design for change contest coming up - but you guys have fun with the fad - we will watch from the sidelines
and shd it be time to die - know that the world loved - you guys decided not to love anyone back is why you got wiped out -
Cool...debt free finally.
Man, if I do end up seeing people getting sucked into Jesus beams and pulled skyward tomorrow I'll get a fork and dive into a plate of crow. But I think I'm safe...
I'm a practicing Catholic so I'll be staying behind too. Evangelicals hate Catholics more than they hate atheists. R
My dear Emily,
Some of us have lost virtually everything we treasure already. Armageddon has no hold over us.
Can we write about cupcakes instead?
Thank you.
Yours truly.
Kathy, Ed I Tor is busy right now, so I'll answer --- I'm good at that --- you write about cupcakes, who's going to stop you?

THE END OF THE WORLD BABEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!

:D

Trudge and I will be here, but we'll be too busy defeating zombies from Satan's army!! BE PROUD, DEFEAT ZOMBIES!! :D
I'm waiting for the apocalypse of OS (with a few favored posters being raptured to Salon?) Things are getting worse and worse...it's a slow death, compared to which possibly being trampled by the Four Horsemen might be preferable...
Hi Emily,

Don't know if this counts given that I ran it earlier this week. But I definitely feared the end while growing up as a Mormon child. Here's a link to the essay:

Hi Emily,
I don't know if the Armageddon would get soon or not, but what I can tell is I don't want is would happen. How 'bout you?
We had an earthquake and a volcanic eruption at 6pm, does that count?
Wow Emily, this is the next open call? Do you know us at all? Even a little bit? We're not exactly a faith-based crew here. Why don't you post an open call for open call suggestions instead of this silliness. Peace.
