I have a friend who keeps insisting I should cut down on red meat in my diet. I have no intention to do so any time soon.
Yes, I am overweight. Yes, I could stand to eat a healthier diet. For me this includes eating less carbs (no, I won't go totally Atkins as I did at one point previous in my life), more fruits and more vegetables.
I need to eat less in the way of bread, pasta and sugary snacks, not that I eat all that much of those anyway.
I have started exercising more and while my routine is a bit short now I am working my way up to a longer, heartier routine.
I used to smoke cigarettes but I have gone over a year without, and I don't miss them.
I cut out candy bars way back when I was on the afore-mentioned Atkins diet, never missed them.
I might have the occasional cookie or popsicle or bowl of ice cream, but I don't overdo it all that often.
Pretty much the only thing missing from my diet lately is a steady supply of vegetables, salads and other ruffage.
But give up or cut out red meat? Not a chance.

That should stop the nagging *looks confident*
Congrats on stopping smoking, by the way.
Replace hamburger with ground chuck or ground round... they are lower in fat which means that they are more healthy for you to start with. DRAIN the fat off when you cook them, which will again lower the fat content and make them more healthy.
Instead of beef eat buffalo (it's available in stores here) or venison, both of which are MUCH more lean than beef is and so while a 3 ounce portion LOOKS the same when it is raw it is significantly larger due to the lack of fat when it is cooked so your eyes send the message to your stomach that it is getting more.
Replace one red meat meal a week with either fish or fowl. Around here we also have "Meatless Monday" which is NOT to say that there is no protein on offer on Mondays at my house but rather that there is no meat on offer.
