The Town Hall Disruptions Make Me Sick

Rate: 10 Flag

Is this the face of the new Republican party?  Not only are the town hall disruptors shouting down the Senators and Congressmen attempting to inform their constituents about the upcoming healthcare reform, but they are shouting down anyone in the audience not espousing their skewed point of view.

First off, I have to say I really don't think this is going to work.  The healthcare reform is going to pass in both House and Senate, in spite of the Republican obstructionists, in spite of the Democrat "Blue" Dogs.

The sickening thing about this is the fact that, with healthcare lobbies and other corporate interests behind e-mails and other literature that spurs these sheep on, people who will do whatever their corporate overlords tell them without question or doubt, the only televised media outlet who are calling the bullshit is NBC.  And they won't even put that on their network news, it's shoved aside onto MSNBC.

Unfortunately, there are not town halls scheduled in my area.  If there were, I would be organizing a group to go and stand up to any of this corporate-sponsored rioting.  If you have town halls near you, organize a group to go and out-shout the shouters.

They are trying not just to shut down a bill, but the very thing our country is founded upon:  Civil discourse and dissemination of factual information.  Fight back!  Don't let them hijack democracy.  Go in groups, shout back, shut them down.  We need healthcare reform.  We need it now.  And they're not going to make it easy.  Everyone who stood up and campaigned for Obama or at least talked him up needs to get out there and out-shout the town hall disruptors, before it's too late.

Peace, and good luck.

I expected the neo-con traitors to do exactly what they always do on every issue, take the side of the elites. It will be the Blue Dog traitors who stop healthcare reform and that is discouraging and disgusting.
Funny how Farts News touted this as a grass roots movement when everyone on the planet with a brain knows that it's been generated by the lobbyists for the insurance companies and big pharma. 71% of Americans want health care reform. That is going to be very hard to ignore by Congress. What kind of health care reform is yet to be seen. If it gets watered down to the point that there is no public option than we will be screwed for another 20 years. I can't see that happening.
Out-shout the shouters...I certainly hope this is not the approach people take. And people wonder why others don't get involved. Two wrogs do not make a right.
Does the loudest voice win?
This is the next stage in what I feared that the extreme, racist, right wing would do. We sit back and tolerate this because there's no violence. Yet.

Violence is coming. Watch it become ugly if someone tries to do something about making the thugs leave, settle down, or be quiet. At best, "Town Hall" meetings will be canceled, or by invitation only.

After the shouting matches will come the shoving matches. After that will be the "unidentified" nighttime vandals and others who get into more disturbing activities.

We will still sit there and do nothing, because there is nothing that we want to do.

We have to do more than talk. I don't know why the assholes weren't thrown out or arrested.

The Democratic Party had better grow a spine and a brain.
Oh, and rated. Thanks for bringing this up!
All these assholes have there marching orders, and they are to disrupt these townhall meeting at any cost. This will backfire, as people see thru this crap!! Good stuff!!
Spin Doctor, we should have slogans just like they do. If they shout, "Just so no!", we yell, "Let the man speak!" If they shout "Don't kill the old people!", we yell "You're a liar!"

The point of out-shouting them should be to shut them down, shut them up, and allow the congressman to get on with the meeting.
I forgot to add too that yes, these disruptive people should be escorted out of the meetings or arrested when they're this disruptive. They're keeping an elected official from getting important information to his constituents, and seemingly trying to incite violence and rioting. I would say that accounts for disrupting the peace at the very least.

So where are the police in these town hall videos? When there were non-violent protests of anything Bush-related the police were always there to shut them down, yet there is no one doing anything to stop these fools. That's what I'd like to know.

On a side note, there is a Town Hall meeting right here in Normal, at the Normal Library, so if anyone wants to go disrupt the disruptors, meet me there brothers and sisters!
Are these all republicans doing the shouting? How do we know? Because Dick Durbin said so?

Suppose we dressed them in pink with fake blood on their hands? Would that be better or does the outrage only go one way?
"Unfortunately, there are not town halls scheduled in my area. If there were, I would be organizing a group to go and stand up to any of this corporate-sponsored rioting. If you have town halls near you, organize a group to go and out-shout the shouters."

Your words.

So you are complaining about the shouters at the Town Hall meetings and you want to gather a group of people to do the same thing? Interesting.
Black, did you even bother to read my or anyone else's previous comments? The point of out-shouting the shouters should be to get them to back off and let the congressmen have their say. And if anyone doubts that there is a script, here is the memo the script comes from:

Peter, I completely understand that some people at these meetings are rude but it doesn't justify another group being rude.

Whether there are scripts or plans doesn't matter(both sides do it).
What matters is that people are angry and are expressing that anger.

Doesn't mean they have to be rude.
I believe the shouters should respect decorum - whoever is running the meeting must enforce order. The place for the protesting and shouting is outside the meeting, not inside. Just because it's a town hall style meeting, there is no reason why simple rules of conduct and order should not be followed. I find this whole tactic disheartening and a very counterproductive means of expression.
Well someone has to do SOMETHING to put down those disrupting the town hall meetings. They're not allowing the Congressmen to say what they're their to say. And turning your back on them won't help either, they'll probably take it as a victory. Out-shouting the shouters in order to allow congressmen their say isn't rude, it's taking back democracy.
Peter, wouldn't it be better to notify the people in advance that if they disrupt the speakers they will be asked to leave. Then enforce the rule.
I am glad you said this. I wanted to say this. I need to see if there are any near me.
My mother sent me an e-mail after reading this with a good point: Instead of out-shouting the shouters those in favor of letting the congressmen speak could sing, "All we are saying is give THIS a chance..." or something like that.
There seem to be several flaws and inconsistencies in the positions of both sides of this.

On the one hand, most congressmen of both parties have admitted to not reading the bill so it would be hard for most of them to say they are imparting information. Further, a town hall meeting is historically a discussion in which a group determines what they believe is the best way to proceed. With or without the shouting, these historically important events have turned into places to vent at elected officials whose position on the issues at hand are already well-known.

On the other hand, it is hard for liberals to complain about this kind of behavior since it has been their forte since the Berkeley "free speech" movement in the mid 1960's. Conservatives have been complaining about this kind of disruptive behavior all this time but now feel "compelled" to resort to it. Please note that every despicable tactic conservatives use has been learned from old counter-culture, hippie and anti-war tactics.

Ain't free speech great?
real 'town halls' end with voting. but you can't, so there is shouting, and shoving, and mob meets mob, and re-inforcements are called...

you act like sheep because you are sheep. get democracy, and start acting like citizens.
