Monday, May 4, 1970. The date everything changed. And nothing changed.
The date the blinders came off for at least some- when the realisation hit that so called white privilege, educated middle class privilege meant nothing, when the government considered you dangerous, un ame… Read full post »
Elizabeth was one of the10 other people who were part of my home stay program in Russia. She was from Alaska, and at age 61 had just retired from the US Geological Survey where she had been an analyst.

Those wacky morons- I mean Mormons- at it again. On Saturday, a temple in the Dominican Republic baptised Anne Frank by proxy. They then proudly submitted the data to a database accessible only by Mormons.
Of course it would have to be by proxy, considering she died in Bergen- Belsen &nbs… Read full post »
So the latest results from the Iowa caucuses have Santorum- SANTORUM- and Romney battling it out for first place- with Paul a close third.
As far as I'm concerned- it shows just how scaryily minded the citizens of that fair state really are. And if that doesn't make you… Read full post »
Any time people interact with each other there will be different opinions and diffferent ways of perceiving things. Not wrong, but different and unique to that person.
Individuals, even identical twins are not mental and emotional clones of each other and each one has has their truth. Apart from… Read full post »

he average life expectancy for a homeless cat on the

I was saddened when my local Borders surrendered to the winds of economic change and began its descent into shopping oblivion.
Not so much for the shopping experience itself, because honesty compels me to admit that I very rarely actually purchased books- or much of anything else there. A rare… Read full post »
Buddy is dead. I found his body on the walkway in front of my house this morning, when I went to collect the newspaper from the driveway. It wasn't completely unexpected- the past couple of days he suddenly looked bad- f ur gone ragged, much thinner in the hindquarters a… Read full post »
Forty three years- a lifetime ago since that day in Memphis. It was a year which began with a long, unpopular and divisive war going badly, and ended with dreams of real change crushed beneath the boot of hatred, bigotry, violence and death. The right wingers and their corpora… Read full post »
I recently read an online article which recommended a few things people could jettison to simplify their lives and be more technologically au courrant.
First off- printed copies of books had to go- that's why there were Kindles. So old fashioned, and there's always the risk of getting a n… Read full post »
A simple way to look at how far this country has come since ’s assassination more than 40 years ago, is to remember that when Barry Obama was born in 1961, the marriage of his parents was illegal in a large section of the mainland United States .&nbs… Read full post »
The recent spate of political violence and the not surprisingly disgusting response by the Repugs and their rightwing blithering mouthpieces, coupled with the TSA's policy of putting everyone who flies at risk of legal sexual assault and the federal government's continued war on individua… Read full post »
There are ghosts in my house. There are some which can be found elsewhere, but mainly the kitchen is where daily, I connect with them in tangible form. They’re not real ghosts of course, but rather, ghosts which mostly just live in my memory. One aunt’s… Read full post »
First, I must extend my apologies to those of the porcine persuasion. Not only are you known for being intelligent, and beneficial to humans on so many levels, but you have the additional advantage of being moist and delicious.

A few things which drive me insane:
The mindboggling, breathtaking level of ignorance so pervasive amongst the American populace, and the apparent loss of the capacity- or inclination -for independent, rational thought. The… Read full post »
Buddy is a great dad. A really great dad and provider. I’ve known him for 6 years, and watched him do his best to take care of his family under extremely trying circumstances. He looked after his children, took care of their mother and was the utmost in responsible parenting. I&rsqu… Read full post »

I'm not one of the cool kids- I never have been. I've always gone my own way and done my own thing, even though for a good part of my life I felt I've been treated as invisible- particularly by the cool kids. The thing is- that… Read full post »
