Jobs have included: English teacher in U.S. and abroad, cabaret performer and member of a NYC sketch comedy troupe; now a legal secretary and freelance writer. It was Christmas, 1991.  I was living alone in Astoria, Queens, after being recently dumped by my now ex-fiancé, Georg, who was German-American (German on his mother's side) who was living in Germany.  We lived there together from 1990 to 1991:  I was teaching English on a Fulbr/… Read full post »

My Favorite Bimbo: Ann Coulter

The tall leggy blonde’s favorite phrase is “douche bag” and she’s “all for” public floggings.  She’s a good friend of Bill Maher; rumor has it they were once lovers.

Maher has called her a “witty, fun drinking comp… Read full post »

Christmas Without Kids

My husband says I write too much about my mom and maybe I do, but she has been my “child” for so long I guess I can’t help myself.  Very co-dependent of me.  The mentally ill have a way of getting under your skin.

It’s almost the end… Read full post »

Beautiful Girls

“If you’re ever in a jam, here I am
If you’re ever in a mess, S-O-S

Dueling Crazies: A Thanksgiving on Long Island

Thanksgiving has always been my favorite holiday.  A time to eat turkey and stuffing, no purchases necessary.  As for so many in others, it's been a tough year financially and otherwise, so my husband L and I have decided we are not exchanging gifts with anyone this year.

Still,… Read full post »

Mama Don't Take My Wheelchair Away

They give us those nice bright colors
They give us the greens of summers
Makes you think all the world's
a sunny day
I got a Nikon camera
I love to take a photograph
So mama don't take my Kodachrome away.”

Carnival of Souls

On Saturday nights, my brother Rick and I used to watch Chiller Theatre on WPIX / Channel 11 right after the WWF.  It was our ritual; we’d watch lying down on the sofa on our stomachs with pillows under our heads.

Occupy Ohio: Exotic Animals Run Amok

This story was inspired, in part, by Charlie Kazfranco’s “GOP's New Trap to Halt the Occupy Wall Street Protest.”  My husband Lorin assisted in the writing of this piece.

Last night in Zanesville, Ohio, dozens of animals fled a wild animal preserve that houses bears, big… Read full post »

A year or two ago, I discovered something new and surprising about my mom: she loves Sex and the City.  It’s shocking because she is a devout Catholic who never dated after the divorce or re-married, and perpetually complains about TV shows with too much sex and violence, although sheRead full post »
