For those of you who are dog enthusiasts, you probably know that the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show is on the air, for three hours tonight and three hours tomorrow night, culminating in Best in Show.  I love dogs, and love to watch dog shows, but I fear for the future of many breeds, due to some of the “breed standards” imposed on these wonderful animals.  Any of you, who have looked at my Facebook page, over the past year, have seen the plethora of photos of my year-old, much-loved, German Shepherd Dog.  Since I have fallen in love with this breed, I have become more alert to the show-breeding trends of these amazing dogs. I believe the GSD, show-breeding inclinations perfectly illustrate what can happen when certain breeding practices take over and slink their way into the gene pool.  Check out the link “Past to Present”, and you be the judge!
