Gil Scott-Heron, spoken word poet, author and artist, died today. He was 62. Gil can rest assured, the Revolution is on. He gave us "The Message" - if you want to be a factor you need to be an acter. There are disciples, and there are masters. Listen and learn from the Master.

Sad news. I was just recently introduced to his music and have been a fan since.
Ernest, I'm sorry to hear this.

There's a track over at my Truckstop you may not have seen, one of a series in London with Amnesia Express in the early nineties.

The man knew jazz and the power of a live performance, and was/will always be loved.
Alaska/Kim: It is sad news and he will always be loved. In art there is such a thing as an enduring relevance. Gil has it.
I posted on the same topic before seeing yours. OS doesn't need two posts on this.

My comments:

The Revolution Will Not Be Televised

Today those words take on a different and sad meaning.

Your revolution reflected the aspirational vibe of its time. Perfectly.

People wanted too much and settled for far too little.

RIP.
Nick: Thanks. That last line hasn't been written yet...
Who will follow? Who will speak to people and their need to change the million wrongs in the world?
Every time I've heard a song by him, I"ve loved it and felt filled with music and energy. I'm so sad that he's passed away - especially at a pretty young age. Thanks for bringing us the sad news.
What a wonderful man! Thank you for helping us to celebrate him. r.
Bobbot: It's on all of us to lead.

Alysa & Jonathan: He talked about love and compassion and justice. How can you beat that?
