Attention: All crew members, all levels
How this affects you: This Addendum pertains to the recently announced dictate regarding musical talents. All crew members are to print out the Addendum and insert it into their personal copy of the Ship Regulation Manual. This Addendum should replace page 25 in chapter 5; “Crew Selection Criteria and Possible Consequences of Witholding Crucial Information During Recruitment Process”.
On behalf of the Ship Management, the Communications Secretariat would like you to be aware of an exception from the rule pertaining to string instruments:
The Message from the Ship Management, which has spent considerable time and effort analyzing the issue, the ban on string instruments which do not fulfill the criteria for “guitar”, “base” or “violin”, no longer applies to banjos. As our Main Commander put it so aptly during the weekly Steering Committee Meeting, “How could we play bluegrass without banjos?” Current crew members are no longer prohibited from learning to play the banjo in their spare time.
The exception is to be considered effective immediately and has been communicated to all employment agencies we use on Earth.
Please govern yourself accordingly.
Additional information: The topic of harmonicas remains under investigation. Please check your personal mailbox for updates.

Anvil_:Dystopia, utopia, what is the difference? At the far ends both tend to blend into each other. A society maximally disorganized allows for certain freedom, while a society optimized for the needs of its denizens may have some hidden expectations. Not least to be happy!
The objective here is to minimize impact from UNEXPECTED IRRITATING noise. We are considering having all cabins sound-proofed during the next long stop-over.
