Hello. Just checking in to let y'all know that Lady Lucia and I are alive, well and even still have power (obviously!)
The subways and buses are still shut down and many businesses closed. My jury service was canceled because courts were closed. I'll be receiving a new summons for a future date.
It's still rainy and very windy. We haven't been outdoors yet but might venture out (on foot; just in the neighborhood) later this afternoon. The main risk involved in going out right now has to do with the wind and possibility of tree limbs landing on one's head. That danger should be pretty much over by the end of the day.
I don't know whether the subways and buses will be back in service by tomorrow but I plan on going back to work then, regardless. The Home is a bit over two miles from our apartment building and, while I wouldn't want to walk the distance in a blizzard, it's no big deal in the rain (the Weather Wizards are saying that rain will continue tomorrow, but just "regular" rain; nothing unsafe).
I could probably get away with a third day off work but I don't want to because there's no guarantee that I'll be paid for any of them (officially I get no paid time off, 'though I got paid for the days when I was crippled by the blizzard in December of 2011). I also just want to be there for the sake of my clients' morale. While the work I do for them is not absolutely necessary to their survival, I know it makes a difference to their mental health. They especially look forward to spending Halloween with me, because I come in costume (will repeat last year's black cat outfit) and paint their faces; then we watch funny/spooky movies together (my plan is to put on "Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein.") So...I will get myself to the Home and do my best to have some fun with all of 'em tomorrow.
I hope that all of youse are okay. Check in when you can.
Blessings and well-wishes,
