“Nothing is so powerful as an idea whose time has come.”
(George Bernard Shaw)
Hopes for 2012? One might argue that 2011 has been a year of tipping points and others might argue we just fell off a cliff. On the one hand Iceland has begun jailing bankers. On the other hand Mother Jones reports Debtors' Prison is Back and the Wall Street Journal reports people are again being imprisoned for debt.
The world wide convulsions assiduously avoided by the corporate owned propagandist/journalists one serious question away from the unemployment lines is superbly presented in this Utube presentation: (Miley Cyrus)- Occupy America- (IT'S A LIBERTY WALK!) Official Music Video(Rock Mafia Remix) And there is more here.Compassion Is Our New Currency, writes Rebecca Solnit at Tom Dispatch
“Stop for a moment and consider just how unforeseen and unforeseeable all of this was when, on December 17, 2010, Mohamed Bouazizi, a Tunisian vegetable vendor in Sidi Bouzid, an out-of-the-way, impoverished city, immolated himself. He was protesting the dead-end life that the 1% economy run by Tunisia’s autocratic ruler Zine Ben Ali and his corrupt family allotted him, and the police brutality that went with it, two things that have remained front and center ever since. Above all, as his mother has since testified, he was for human dignity, for a world, that is, where the primary system of value is not money.”
We can hope things will get better but hope alone will not see us through for, as Lord Byron once wrote, “What is hope? The paint on the face of existence. Just a touch of truth rubs it off and then we see what a hollow cheeked harlot we've got hold of."On the serious side from the Courage of Robin Hood to Cowardice inviting catastrophe , to the lighter side of Occupy the Tundra, or "Occupy Jingle Bells" and Occupy the North Pole ( a Webby for Mr. Fish please!) watch out for flying hyperbole! The world is going rock, rock, rock. But who is really rocking the cradle and will the cradle come down baby and all?
