Self portrait on a Ms. Butterworth bottle

I’m blocked clean up. Plum out of ideas. Since writing about my personal healthcare hell, I have spent a tremendous amount of time writing and reading everything I could (education is power?) to learn what I, little ole’ me, could do. I’ve written my congressmen, the president, and local organizations. I’ve signed every petition I could find in support of single payer…or at least public option.

treasure 1
"Treasure"
My grandson's rocking horse and mom's old jewelry

I am worn out!

What’s really bad is that it has affected my art. I don’t do serious, thought-provoking kinda art. I prefer what makes folks smile! And y’all always make me smile. I would like to return the favor (hoping y'all might smile at some of this art) and get my creative edge back! So I am asking y’all, my OS friends, for some motivation and ideas for art that will make YOU smile!

"Watch Dog"

And I love a challenge!

The Clinton Museum Store, here in Little Rock, did a call to artists to create art that was pig, presidential, bbq, and /or motorcycle related for a Harley BBQ event they were sponsoring. Ideas came easy one night when a few girlfriends were having martinis on the porch. The names (inspirations) came first. Then the pieces could not be made fast enough.  Most have sold. Obviously the buyers of said art had a sense of humor!

air pork before

 the before

airpork after

the after..."Air Pork One"

(this sold a couple of weeks ago, teehee)

"Art is making something out of nothing and selling it" Frank Zappa

first sow

"First Sow"

plate called hog

"I believe in a plate called Hog"

pork chopper

"Pork Chopper"

bay of oigs

"Bay of Pigs"

I had way too many pigs left from my shopping trips to area flea markets for all these pig pieces ....so I put them (56 to be exact) on a mail box

summertime

"Summertime"

(this piece was purchased by the Clinton Foundation Staff and was President Clinton's Christmas Present from them)

high on hog

"High on the Hog"

(I got in trouble, kinda, for this one. Funny thing, though...I was told not to display during the festival but a restaurant owner bought it immediately , before the event even started! )

...Can we say a "'BBQ"' restaurant?

Remember, all my art is made from recycled materials. A few of these pieces were on a post a while back.  I’m repeating a few, cause, well, I have a bunch of new friends now.

blooming bust
"Blooming Bust"
(This started with the inspirational title of "Flower Child" but as she progressed to a more mature look...)

Tell me what you think….elaborate on some of my ideas…..help me!

Here are a few ideas I’ve been tossing around …….

“Namaste”   JK, I have 2 little hands and I want to incorporate into a piece.

“Cracking up”  Chuck, you inspired this title….I see chaos….

“Pirate Wimmen”  The OS girls know who they are……. I know I want to do this piece but where to start?

“Sexy Flowers”  a series. Some of Tequila & Donuts’ porno flower photos beg to be done in mosaics.

And no, as much as I want to do a piece called “Republicans Suck” …. I’m afraid, living in a red state and all, chances are pretty good, I don’t have a snowball’s chance in hell, to sell the piece. Remember, in these times, one must sell one’s art to pay the mortgage and hospital bills, when one doesn’t have any fuckin’ insurance….........So sorry, I digressed yet again.

Winning titles will get recognition (with said art) on my blog. (Surely you didn’t think there would be a monetary reward?)

See what I mean…give me some groovy titles…..The kind of titles that will make folks smile!

With talent like that, you want ME to motivate YOU? ;-)
I'm not sure why but I suddenly have a craving for some ribs and maybe a side of pork chops.

You are indeed a very talented artist.
Very inspiring and motivating post. I loved the artwork you do. It put a HUGE SMILE on my face. Simply beautiful..
I will have to think of a title and get back to ya.
WOW! I love your art!
Especially "Treasure" and "Blooming Bust".
I like the ideas you have listed already--Cracking Up would be my first choice. So many different directions to go in...
Best smile of the day...ok, second best. Do you want me to tell you the best? Of course you do. I just organized everything to go back to the ashram for a 10 day yoga retreat. ::yeah!!::

So, the two hands in a Namaste is PERFECT. I have a whole bunch of old costume jewelry that I haven't used in years and have no idea what to do with. It's yours if you want it. I would be honoured to have my stuff incorporated into your art...especially since you have such high flying customers. (all those puns are intended).

Wow, great post. Amazing stuff. You are one talented woman. Namaste!!!
rated for among many things ""Art is making something out of nothing and selling it" Frank Zappa" quoting my hero of all time.

When Clinton said "I did not inhale" HE LIED! But God I love that guy.

Well Fab, I cracked up at least 4 or 5 times looking thru this twice (or three times) and I'm trying here to come up with some inspiration for you.

Give me a sec... BRB
I love these pieces! The Pirate Wimmen....I dunno where you'd start, but I know it would be fabulous! xox
Wow! That is some wild stuff!
Ya'll com bac' now, he'ar. A little southern saying I know your familiar with. I have a clock I want to send you a pic of. This is the ugliest clock on the face of the earth, but it does have charm. You are a great artist!!!
I LOVE IT. very fun, and very very beautiful.
Oh Precious Greg, you've already motivated a piece...."Blue Cat"

Torman- Nothing like motivating the taste buds.

Fireeyes - Come on back...anytime...but your name (fireeyes) is food for the artsy thought!

Spotted mind - thanks right back atcha!

JK - Go in peace and do some serious yogaing. Of course, I'll take ALL old jewelry! Love the stuff! PM me. Namaste is coming! I can feel it!

Trig - YEA!!! You smiled! Yep, ole' Bill lied like a dog but I still love him, too! And of course, I use Zappa quote all the time. It fits all too well with my art!

Robin - one wimmen or a crew?

Cap'n. is that like "wild" good or "wild" OMG?

Scanner - I've said that all my lil' ole' life! and I love old clocks!
Sexy flowers in mosaic! I want to see that! And I love Watch Dog.

I have a story about micro mosaics. Many years ago...around...1984 or so, Beck and I were wandering the L.A. County Museum of Art....they hadwhich an extensive collection of micro mosaics from the Italian Renaissance and some from the Napoleonic era. There was a man there with a raincoat on, socks and tennis shoes, probably shorts of some kind and a hat. He had a large magnifying glass. "Look!" he waved the magnifying glass around. He handed Beck the glass to look through. "Just look at the magnificence of these!" He was very enthusiastic about the whole thing. After explaining lots about mosaics in the Italian Renaissance to us, he walked away. We were laughing quietly, because he was such a seemingly charming but odd man. The attendant walked over and whispered, "These belong to him. He's very proud of them. This is his wing. That was Armand Hammer." xox
nofrillsmonkey - thanks! I love when another artist stops by...Now help me, damnit! I was thinking about one called "colors" and I wanted to go crazy with a wonderful assortment, can't seem to figure out the form...whatcha think?
A crew! We girls work together! xox
How about flamingos doing the tango? While eating mango's?

I'm reaching here. OK you like Zappa huh. Camarillo Brillo meats Dinah Mo Hum?

This could be fun. Once my mind gets rolling in this direction (and now it IS) I might be able to come up with some good stuff for ya.

And I have plenty of junk I could send if you promise to turn it into art. You're awesome Fabs.
I'm thinking we need to have a Pirate Wimmen do Arkansas Art weekend. We can all bring our stuff and and spend the weekend drinking martinis and glueing ourselves, I mean our stuff, to, to, to whatever. Yeah, that's the ticket. Pirate Wimmen Garden art.

What do you think? Too much?
I am still thinking.. There ya go use my artist name fireeyes.. Could be interesting what you come up with..
You *block* well. Knowing that I inspired something you might create, humbles me. Pork Chopper rocks!!! rAted!
Robin, that's hysterical! I was waiting for the punch line...."and then he flashed us"
.......a crew it is!

Trig - That's it! "The Flamingo Tango" I can see it! Dancing flamingos with melons scattered about! And junk? You betcha! I love me some junk! OMG! another piece..."Junk Mail"
Keep 'em coming!!!
Great stuff.
I hope this helps: we mens wants some equal time too. How about something testosterone charged and worthy of Sgt. Trudge Fury's approval?
To this day, I am super tuned into mosaics! xox
hmmmm.... now you've got me looking at my mosaic station and chastising myself for not having done anything lately.
Just wonderful. Enjoyed this.

surly, you have a "mosaic station?" Get out. Wow. I am sooo underprivileged here. I thought I was doing good just having a sink and a fridge.
JK - Perfect! Absolutely perfect! Let's do it! I'm close to the airport! Martinis, glue, and the OS wimmen Pirates . YES! YES! YES!!

Fireeyes - but you can still come back ! ALL ideas are appreciated and needed!

Chuck, little do you know how much you HAVE inspired me. What was the name of that hospital? I can see the piece but I need the name! I've gone through your old posts to no avail! I also want to do one called "the music dreams are made of" teehee!

Trudge's Fury? Hmmmmm, the possibilities? Shall I include little tiny thingies? Oh wait a minute, you said testesterone...big thingies?

Robin - did ya see JR's idea above? We could be drunk gluein' pirate wimmen! I can see it now.....

iam - I didn't know you glued? Share!

Mical - Thanks for stopping by!
How about "The Tell-tale Heart"? It could be shaped like a heart, but maybe with a love poem in sequins or rhinestones or something shiny all around it?

BTW, I love your stuff. The fact that you recycle everything and turn it into such fabulous work is just phenomenal.
Bill - I love it! "Tell Tale Heart"? Perfect! I can see it, too! HUGE thanks!
Now U got it. Big, think long and hard not like those teenie-weenie pepper peckers that Gen. Brady served you last night.
I can model for you.
I think you could do a sort of rise of the phoenix, out of the ashes of the fires of hell of the insurance bastards maybe bastards r us? I'd like to see you do something helps you channel that anger. Angry antelopes or angels or aarvarks of Arkansas? Always enjoy looking at your work!
Yes! Let's have a Pirate Wimmen mosaic makin' martini partee! And we can use iamsurly's mosaic station. Seriously? A mosaic station? xox
Trudgeh...you can model? Rilly? And Mrs. Trudgeh...well...she's laughing her head off right now!!! xox
Robin, did Trugeh really compare himself to the teeny weenies? Oh my. Talk about your TMI here. I think we wounded him last night.

And the mosaic station!!! I am glad I am not the only one this blew away. I mean really. Of all the "stations" I ever imagined setting up in my house...
Psssssssss c'mere pirate ladies. Iamsurly is a big kidder. There is no such thing as a "mosaic station"... or is there? I'm so confused.
Nighty night :)
Fab-

I tend to do big projects... like a 6ft dining table... the back stairs of our old house... the whole bathroom floor in river rock - one rock at a time (who knew they had that on those handy pre-glued sheets). Here's a sample of this summer's quickie fire pit project.
Trig...surly has a MOSAIC STATION. okay...that's surreal. xox

JK...yes...Trudgeh, in his madness, compared himself to little veggie peppers...my god...I feel for Mrs. Trudge. xox
surly...jez a little quickie fire pit project...and were you playing tunes that we won't be able to stop thinking about while at your mosaic station carefully choosing each tile? surly is Satan. xox
Robin, you may be onto something here regarding Surly. First she starts by implanting Bobby Sherman tunes in our heads and visions of half-naked teen idols from the "seventies." Then there is the whole franfurter and marshmallow party dishes...also from the "seventies." Did you see her Dolly youtube vid tonight? Can you say "seventies?"

I am just sayin here... we may need to watch that one.
JK, Trig, and Robin... it's not polite to scoff at Surly! Here's the proof.
Brady - you better watch it missy... you don't want me to go You Tube shopping for you again, do you?
JK, we better not scoff at surly...or she might singe our hair with her satan mosaic fire pit! I do see...the vids, the music...we have sold our souls. xo x
did you see the pics? that glue isn't just for sniffing! it's for mosaicing! I'm scared she will mosaic me while making me listen to Puppy Love by Donny Osmond. xox
Robin - I'd be even crueler than that... I'd make you watch endless hours of reruns of the Donny and Marie show... replaying over and over all the ice skating scenes.
Cedarcrest. A great place to go for a tune-up and ghost hunt!
You take some ordinary things and transform them into stunningly magnificent pieces of rare art. That is quite a talent and use of one's imagination for the truly unique.
The art is outstanding - we need all the smiles we can get!

And yes, yes, I've read all the comments - I'm staying neutral in the dual that appears to be forming between iamsurly and Robin/JK.

On second thought, one must always stand against evil.

Robin/JK - I'm at your service . . . I can't relive the 70's any more, as those years severely traumatized my early childhood.
We're just brainstorming names, right? Names that might conjure up an image or an idea for you? Okay, brain dump, most of it crap or maybe all of it:

Twinkle Toes
Heirloom
The Ties that Bind
Prosaic Mosaic
Fan Mail
Heartstrings
Angel Food
Dog-matic
Common Cents
Full Moon
Community Chest
Bear Hug
Mind's Eye
A Fool and his Money
Lifeline
Web Sight
Little Cat Feet
Two Timin' Man
Southern Cross

Dont' worry--I'll feel better in the morning!
I'm stealing your posting title to put on my cardboard sign. Except maybe I'll change "Art" to "Fart" since I don't have any talent.
Haha! These are FABULOUS Darling and made me grin from ear to ear. If you named the piece "Democrats think Republicans Suck", You might be able to get away with it, or Ebay could be your best friend.
I especially liked the watch dog and High on the Hog. Too, funny!
Robin, Owl...look at this Surly statement:

"looking at my mosaic station and chastising myself "

What does that mean? Read it backwards. It's frightening.

It does not look good for us mortals. I fear the firepit and the Donnie and Marie skating scenes. (who but someone with unnatural powers even remembers that there were skating scenes?? - the rest of us scrubbed that from our brains with a combination of drugs and alcohol)

Sorry Fab, we've run off on a tangent. So to make up for hijacking your post, I offer up the following possibilities:

Surly you Jest-er
Iam A Bit Pendant Meter
Very cool! So original, so colorful!
I think the way to do it is to start. It sounds like it's already in your head. Don't prethink it. Just start with the color that makes sense and go. I can tell you, judging by your work and doing a little mosaic stuff myself, those suckers take on a life of their own. You're just the channeler.

I just looked again at your pieces...jeeze, I wish we had bigger pictures because they are really something. what wonderful detail and variation and they're just dripping with gorgeousness. Love it.
This is SO up my alley to come up with names for art pieces before they are even created. And pigs! Oh my! Here are some titles for starters:
When Pigs Fly
Pork u pine
bOINK!
Pig's tie
Poor seen
Stop me now, please! Hope these inspire (or at least crack you up!) xoxo
Have you tried selling on Ebay? I've posted some "pig art" and it seems there are a lot of transplanted farm people out there who miss the farm and love, love, love, farm animal fun art pieces!!! I know what you mean by things affecting your art.

You need to know your work made me smile a bunch this morning!!!!!

I'll get right on that inspiration thingie...

Pigs in a poke takin'a toke
like the prez

I don't know where that came from.

I have a random mind, so sorry.
Oh, yeah, the Margarita is perhaps your best route.
Robin, JK, Iamsurly - Girls, girls, girls- I believe it would be in ya'll's best interest, to take hammers and proceed smashing things! All will be right with the world and music should include but not be limited to, Beat It, Brickhouse and Jump!

Trudge - why would I need you to model? I have the tiny image in my mind already!

Anne - Bastards R Us! (in reds) It's coming! I can feel it! Thanks!

Surly - Love your "station". If I wasn't so damn technically challenged and knew how to link, I'd show you mine. 2 rooms (1 to work and 1 with stuff to be glued upon) with a studio under construction.
girl - we must glue! (Weldbond, of course)
I Love big stuff, I've done a floor installation and am about to do a 5 ft tall, 3d Watch dog for public art! That's why I need the studio.

Chuck - CEDARCREST! THAT'S IT!!!!! Now I see it! Tune ups and hauntings! OMG, just in time for fall! I am motivated!! Can't remembert shit but I'm damn motivated! You be the man!

Just Cathy - you are too kind and terribly sweet! Did I say I appreciate ya?

Owl - thanks and I ain't reliving the 70's either!!!! ;-D

Cindy - OMG!!!!! Now girl, THOSE are some names! Wonderful great, stupendous! LOVE EM ALL! I'll be using several, no...most....no....ALL! what can I say???? I am challenged and motivated!!! I've printed them out to display on my "station". Bless ya girl!!!!

Harry - :>D

Micheal - Thanks! And I've been avoiding ebay since the identity theft!

Ms Tai - thanks!

nofrills - you are so right! the pieces do take on a life of there own ...once I start with some general direction! thanks! PM me if ya want to see my website. You are appreciated, thanks!

Cartouche - I was prayin' your little creative self would stop by. These did crack me up however I be through piggin' for now! More please? .....'cause I know you got it in that wild brain of yours!!

I KNEW IT ! I knew y'all would stir up my creative juices. Bless y'all's hearts! I really apprecaited everyone's wonderful ideas. I would start gluein' right now if I didn't have to clean the damn house!
Brenda - ebay is a no-no since identity theft! I am thinking about etsy.com, though. a few folks have also asked if I did chickens.
What cha think? ;-D
Your art is beautiful, Fab!
Ash - thanks! appreciate you stopping by.
I don't know why but I keep seeing a Barbie covered with sauce on a spit over glowing coals. Barbie cue?
Bob - I love it and I have some old barbies! Barbie Q ! Yep, that's been added to the list! Thanks!
This stuff is beautiful AND makes me laugh out loud. What an achievement!

Maybe something about Billionaires for Wealthcare (they have some hilarious videos on You Tube.)
@ Fab Flamingo, IAmSurly, Robin & General Brady:
Youse all must still be shocked and awed from my assualt because you can no longer read right, I wrote, "... hard not like those teenie-weenie pepper peckers that Gen. Brady served you last night." (Wow! I've never quoted myself before; it feels good.) Meaning that your hen-pecked peter peppers are small and mine is shall we XXXXL. lol
aging hippie chick - Wonderful! I'll check out the videos.

Trudge - yeah, right! I believe that alright! ;-p
I'm in love with your art, Fab - it absolutely makes me smile. Adore your piece - "Watchdog" and the piggy mailbox. As for ideas - I'm all in favor of a pirate wimmen mosaic martini party. Hope you will continue to share pictures of your work with us!
Move over Martha Stewart. There's a new kid in town.
DBD - Thanks! When the bay of pigs sold I cracked up...Just goes to show you..."art is in the eye of the beholder" ;-D

Dr. Steve - She can kiss my good thing! I be a redneck Martha Stewart (also my halloween costume last year) and someday I'll show her..... besides.... I am much funnier than she'll ever be!
What problem with art? Rated.
Hey, you know how I feel about you and your art. I have no idea how to motivate me, let alone you, but I think that you just have to keep on doin' what you are doin'.

I like it.

Monte
Fab, This art is just great! And yes, it did make me smile!
Rated
Zuma - i love you, too!

Monte - motivate me? Lord have Mercy....YOU motivate ME with every post you write, good Rev!

Junk - Yea! I'll do almost(?) anything for a smile! My job here is done!
Bin there, done that!

The gold standard in men.

I love the pork series...how about a "Pork Fat Rules"...
Thanks for the deliciously delightful art. I especially adore “High on the Hog.” And “Watch Dog,” too.

Here’s a bouquet of freshly picked smiles for you:

:-) :-) :-) :-) :-)

—Melissa
Your art is so much fun! I love "Watch Dog" and "Glenda the Good Witch...Her Golden Years" totally makes me laugh out loud. How could anyone be sad or depressed looking at her?

You've gotten a ton of good ideas so you'd better get busy gluing. I can't wait to see the finished product(s).
Buf -- Thanks! Love pork fat (especially in turnip greens) ;-D

Melissa - Love the Bouquet! Thanks!

Lisa - Glenda was fun to make. And I HAVE started glueing...thanks to all of these great ideas!

to all - I AM MOTIVATED! Bless y'all's hearts!!!!
I'm thinking you need some health care related ones - Angry nurses with extra large needles, Groucho Marx doctors, that sort of thing. Would sell well. Think M*A*S*H with an edge.
What a treasure to find this post!
