- Bio
- California girl transplanted to the Deep South twenty odd years ago. I married an eclectic Australian carpenter twenty six years ago. I enjoy reminding him that he's seven years my senior.
Mother of an all grown-up daughter who rocks the socks off of her clients (she's a hair stylist!)
My resume includes, but is not limited to bank teller, short order cook, pre-school teacher, pastors' administrator, home school Mom, reserve analyst, loan officer, insurance agent, writer and chief cook and bottle washer. I currently manage a fantastic Aveda salon & day spa, and write a bi-weekly column for the local paper. Be nice, or you could wind up in my novel! :)

Sea Glass
I laid it all out on the table, and mindlessly caught
myself judging each piece, sorting them into categories.
Greens were the popular kids, their social standing obvious at
first glance. Everyone loves green sea glass.
The clear and white pieces were so common, they'd have to be of ver… Read full post »

The Merits of Children
I have been doing some thinking since reading kryptogal's post Does Having Children Ruin Your Life? I was moved by her query, because I don't think she was complaining about annoying kids she cares less for, or saying that people who want kids are deranged....It seems like a genuine question, th… Read full post »
Not Fair
I was only about a block and a half from the local YMCA. I could already hear the shouts and squeals coming from the outdoor pool, and a high pitched skeeee from a lifeguard's whistle. I was looking forward to peeling off my t-shirt and denim shorts, to lay in the sun,… Read full post »
Don't Hate Me Because of My Cupcakes
Yesterday I stopped in a neat little cafe in Cookeville, TN simply to buy some ground coffee for the shop. I had eaten lunch. I was not hungry. I was complete and utter sucker bait.
Perched upon the counter, in that impulse buying area, of course, were these unapologetically evil cupcakes.… Read full post »
Wherein I Sing for No Apparent Reason
Things have been better. I get that. And they could be so much worse.
I was driving home from work last night, on that curvy, dark country road, radio off, high beams on in case a random calf may have gotten out of a pen. (I live in Unincoporated Booneyville).
And as… Read full post »
One Name is Never Enough
My husband never calls me by my first name. I feel like David Allen Coe. He calls me Babe, Hon, Pooky, Mom (when referring to me in the presence of our daughter) and a few others I refuse to divulge. If he ever called me by my first name, I'd have a panic attack,… Read full post »
Silly Putty People
People are amazing. How is it that we survive what sounds unsurvivable once it's described in words? Each of us has been through more than we could likely ever feel comfortable telling, but from time to time, we have a glimmer of bravery and lay our guts on the table for… Read full post »
The Rescuing Gene: I am a Carrier
"Dog, do you have chocolate on your arm?" my daughter quizzes our newest dog.
These are the kind of things I hear lately.
Stretcher, a mix of something like a Golden Lab and a Golden Retriever, has been here since last Thursday. Friday we did the socially responsible thing and had him tutor… Read full post »
A Legacy of Blue Cheese and Souvenirs
When I was growing up, there were the same typical cycles most families go through in finances. Some years were tight, some years were full, but I always felt like we were rich, and in the most important ways, we were. We laughed, we played the music loud in the car… Read full post »
