A few weeks ago my brother and his best friends from high school came to my house the night before their 40th reunion shindig at a local hotel.
John Walker, a longtime writer on OS and the person who is the reason I first started a blog here, is one of those best friends.
He wrote about it - beautifully, perfectly - here: John Walker, Open Salon: "A Gathering of Souls Connected". Please read it first.

A great shot of John laughing at Gary.
It takes more than that to get Dave to smile.

Gorgeous, you. And them.
Off now to see the linked post..........
First post on Open Salon that actually made me start to cry.
You rock for hanging out with them and putting them up.
-r-
your pictures tell the same story, though.
the pics you artfully produced for us.
as for everything being beautiful, and everyone , too,
that
has
never changed, ever.
it is only us
who
change...
There's no friends like old friends. So happy you and the boyz got to share the magic once again. Btw, if you did the interior of your home (and I'm sure you did) you've got a great eye and palette. Just fabulous pic of you and your brother, Ms. Candy.
music is what we shared that night and one of the things, just one, that was unbroken from those summers, those years a lifetime ago. it defined my generation; it is my drumbeat still. i love that so many of you who have commented -- (i started to list them, but it's *everyone*, i think) - have such strong musical souls. like aka's, for one.
myriad, thank you for the compliment but, ahem, have you seen john?
greenie, i fixed tyler florence's pot roast tacos (referred to here as candy's world famous tacos), fresh corn sauteed with roasted poblanos and crema, mexican cabbage salad and more that i can't remember in my old age. you have a california soul, woman.
jeff, if we do this again, you're in. we missed a harmonica like crazy.
lea, you got it. big chillish it was. and it intensifies even today. :(
james, i love your comment, just love it, every word.
bell, those toes have made several appearances, haven't they? heh.
ah, scarlett. i know you know the backstory here and could play it in a beautiful, sad melody. i love that picture, always will.
thanks so much, sheila and jeanette and roger, trudge and zanelle and john, tom, cappy, catch and david, nick and myr and dunnite!! and my dear friends denise, rita and joan.
i hope i didn't miss anyone.
and to my old friend john walker, i keep hearing "oh what a night." hold those notes, strum those strings. it was golden.
Salud to you and your friends.
and lips to caress the lyric
sing the melody, and
blow the smoke...
saludos
Rated for family moments.
no, christine, he is from AZ by way of CO but a huge (huge) fan of lake powell, hence the shirt.
there may be a video coming from someone who was there and filming. if i get my hands on it, i'll update and let you all know.
i'm smiling at my venezuelan friend's comment. there surely were all of those, then and now. :)
It's fun to hang out with musicians : )
Nice to see you, too!
