I am a wildland firefighter for the US Forest Service. The government is "touchy" about its employees expressing our opinions publicly, so I am anonymous to avoid having to deal with permission or apologies.

Photos in my work cell phone

Rate: 19 Flag

Here is a sampling of photos I have taken with my work cell phone.

I took this photo before I left work this morning.   Kiley, my 14 year old chow mix, was starting to slip on the wood floors.  Got her a sporty little pair of socks (she prefers the word "boots").  They're just like the kind we humans get in the hospital -- little rubber treads on the bottom.  I figured she'd have them off in a flash, so I got her to stand up quickly and gave her a treat.  She realized immediately, hey, I've got traction!  They have made a huge difference.

These are my new firefighting boots!  First time wearing Danner's.  Wore White's for years, but since I wrecked my knee I need a flatter heel.  Wish me luck breaking them in.

new boots

My new cat, Kevin.  Three year old manx, adopted from local cat rescue group.  He's going to be a sweetheart.

My lovely assistant.  Just another day at the US Forest "Circus".

I keep this image in my phone just in case I need to make a point with someone.  Comes in handy.finger

This is one of my favorites.  Hurricane Irene did this to a fire danger sign last summer.  Ahhh, irony.

Man, Firechick, you have tiny feet! Kevin and Kiley are Kute. And I particularly like the giant, industrial-size bottle of tylenol on your lovely assistant's desk. :)
Thanks for sharing these with us. I guess every office does have a clown. : ) r
Btw, Thanks for participating in My Camera Phone Photos OC.
Cool boots and sweet pup and kitty!
The real clowns sit in corner offices and unfortunately don't wear bright red noses to identify themselves.
MM -- It's an optical illusion! I have HUGE feet for my size (I'm 5"3" wear 9.5 shoes). Yeah, we go through the headache pills here.

Trudge -- Thanks, great open call!

Erica -- thanks!

Patrick -- You speak the truth for sure!! From experience I'm sure.

Those are some serious-looking boots! I love the face on that cat, too.

your assistant makes me a bit uncomfortable, not terribly organized,
is he? what is the pattern on those pants?
it may make me more confident
he can do his job with acumen,
if it sounds right to me...

there IS a theme here: feet.
they get you where you need to go, and yet gotta be covered
with supportive footwear. To avoid slipping up.

my comment is random, as is your post.
Kevin looks like a fine cat, but watch out for
those enormous
ears. He might hear something u dont want him to,
and pass it on to
Kiley, then all the dogs in the neighborhood will
know yr personal business.

could come back to , uh, bite you..
Lezlie -- thanks. I always feel a little bad-ass in my fire boots.

James -- Most of that mess is mine, I must confess. My assistant is one of the best damn firefighters I know. I would follow him into the flames. Rest assured. And the cat? Yeah, aren't those great ears? But you are right, he might be a plant, a spy, sent by Uncle Sam to eavesdrop on this government servant. And dogs are such blabbermouths.
I love your dog's boots! This is a fun open call. ~r
Loved it! Thanks for this glimpse of your world, Firechick.
[r] hah! a compelling, eclectic collection! thanks! best, libby
I could scream with how cute your doggie is in the traction boots.
When I first moved into my house I had no rugs and wood floor. I finally bought a 3' round area rug and when I set it down, my Sheltie ran for it and sighed in ecstasy! I had to laugh at her.

She was such a cute dog. Very practical, too. Like yours, who recognized the value of booties.
Saddle soap for the boots...and tape for the blisters... great shots Firechick!
These are a great little peek into your world, some of them brought memories back, of living around foresters and firefighters...
Thanks for that : )
Especially love the red nose, Kevin's sleek face, of joy of new boots.
Great collection, the irony in the last one made me giggle. I think I'm in love with Kevin, what a handsome boy.
Ahhh cutie animals!!! I haz booties too, so I don't fall on my face in the kitchen!! WOOO!! :D

"Wish me luck breaking them in."

Just don't break ya legs!!! ~nodding~
Great photos. Like the boots too. Happy to see there is some happiness at the U.S. Forest Service/Circus. Otherwise, the fires could make everyone quite mad indeed.
Joan -- Aren't they great? I think her next pair will be black. Goes with everything.

Jennifer -- thanks for stopping by.

libby -- glad you like them. thanks!

CC -- I know, too cute, huh?

Kate -- thanks :)

phyllis -- It's good to have practical dogs. I bet you miss your girl.

JMac -- you got it, brother!

Just Thinking -- Nice. We're a fun group. Thanks!

l'Heure -- I know, I like that one too (it's the oldest one in my phone -- I keep it there to look at when I need to smile). Yeah, that Kevin is a heart-breaker.

Tink -- I bet your boots are hot!

Mary -- Laughter is a great stress relief for sure. Thanks.
These are the new boots for you & your chow. :)
The quickest way to break in shoes is to wear them on the wrong feet. Right?

The red nose Forrest Ranger is Smokey The Bear's `Bozo's Pal, and Forrest Friend?

You can tell the dog is a male.
Males wear blue booties socks.
Girl cats wear pink boots/socks.
The red nose boss may join circus.
Ask him to apply for a editor position.
I doubt Tink wears socks or underpants.
clay -- thanks, me too!

Art -- Uh oh, she is a he but is not offended. Don't forget Woodsy Owl! And of course you must be right about Tink. I heard he goes commando.
I've always thought Manx cats were the coolest things ever.
MWG -- I know. We had one growing up that lived to be 21! I also currently have a tortoise manx. Their little tail-less dupas are so cute.
Hey! You're featured in my cell phone photos directory!
I knew you'd have great photos! I love the dog booties - and the cat named Kevin, who looks adorable indeed!
Hi Alysa -- Welcome back! We missed you. Can't wait to hear more about your trip.
Thanks for doing the good work and keeping us all safer! Love the pics.
Thanks for the insite here. Now that finger?

Your lovely manx cat has some Oriental feline in his geno. Lovely shaped face.
Do women firefighters also find men firefighters hot?
I wrecked my feet after 3 days in the woods in a pair of boots that were highly touted. Came home and threw them in the trash. I still have the pair of Danner's that I replaced them with some 17 years ago. They are heavy but comfortable and durable.
Good post!
