This Memorial Day weekend was one busy weekend for me. I had a wedding and several BBQ dinners to attend. The best part being the wedding that I had to attend. It was the wedding of one my oldest daughter’s friends. The funny thing was she was marrying an good old friend of mine. I hadn’t seen him for about eight years if not more then that. Now we had the chance to see each other three times in one weekend and he was marrying my daughter’s friend. Man what a small world it is.
It was really great to see him and we had the chance to talk about some of the crazy things we did when we hung out together. That was back in my wild drinking partying days. No we had never dated or anything like that we just hung out and partied with a group of friends. We talked about the different paths we both took that lead us to the happier lives we both have now.
Of course Monday when I seen him at the BBQ dinner at my oldest daughter’s house we got the chance to talk more about the things we did when we all hung out. Then he mentioned about the last time we seen each other eight some years ago. The two of us smiled shook our heads. My daughter looked at the two of us shook her head as to say no don’t go there.
His new wife was asking us, “What? What are you guys talking about?”
I said, “We are not going there. End of subject.”
He laughed, and smiled at my daughter, then back at me, and leaned over close to his wife and said, “I will feel you in later.”
So then the subject was changed quickly by my daughter, and we all laugh about whatever she said. We all just went back to bull shitting about other things.
The wedding was a beautiful country-wedding outside in a gazebo with a pond, nothing but land and trees, in the back ground. The bride was stunning and beautiful, and the men all had on jeans, button down shirts to match, their cowboy hats, and boots. After the wedding I went up the bride and gave her a huge hug.
She whispered to me, “Look Mom what I have on under my dress.”
Then I had to laugh when she pulled her dress up just enough to show me that she had on her cowboy boots. As we were both laughing our asses off I had to give her another huge hug.
They had one of my daughter’s friends on the acoustic guitar playing and singing the music during the ceremony. He was also the entertainment for the reception, he is really great and it was very enjoyable to listen to and dance to.
My date for the wedding was my grandson Bubbie, I have to say I had the best date there. Since I was wearing a black slimming dress and strapped high heels; his mother dress him to match me. He was wearing his Levis with a white button down shirt, his black cowboy hat, and his cowboy boots.
When I walked up to him he had on his sunglasses and he looked up at me smiled and said, “Me-Ma you look beautiful.”
I said, “Well thank you Bubbie. You look handsome.”
A huge smile came across his face and he said, “I don’t look handsome I look like a rock star.”
I laughed and smiled told him, “Yes Bubbie you look like a rock star. A handsome rock star at that.”
Then he took my hand and we walked to take our sits.
During dinner Bubbie was getting hot so his dad unbuttoned his shirt and told him to leave it on but he could have it unbuttoned at least to cool him down. Bubbie is all country boy and that shirt didn’t stay on long at all. So he was running around in his Levis, cowboy hat, boots, sunglasses and no shirt.
He was telling everyone, “I am a rock star”.
The funniest thing was the fact that his babysitter had given him one of the rub on tattoos for being good all week. She had placed it in the most perfect spot between his should blades on his back. It was a tattoo of Spiderman and it really looked like a real tattoo until you got up close enough to tell it was only a rub on one.
My daughter had to explain to everyone, “Hey his babysitter gave it to him for being good all week. I said it was fine as long as she put it where no one could see it. I just didn’t think about him taking off his shirt at the wedding”.
At the reception everyone was having a fit over him. They didn’t know his name so they would call him “The little cowboy with the Spiderman tattoo.” People were snapping pictures of him left and right, because they thought he was so adorable running around without a shirt, wearing his cowboy hat, boots, sunglasses, and having that tattoo on his back.
Everytime I would walk past my daughter she would say, “Hey mom if you see the parents of that half naked little cowboy running around, would you tell them they need to get a handle on him and put his clothes back on.”
I would just laugh at her and tell her, “Hey he gets it honest. Miss. get kicked out of school for mooning everyone several times.”
Which one time someone over heard me say that to her, and wanted to know the story behind the mooning people. So my daughter had to tell the stories about when she mooned people, and got kicked out of school several times. Oh and the story about when she mooned me on the way to her sister wedding reception, wearing a formal dress even. I swear they never grow up, and she has no room to talk about her child because he sure does it honest.
This one blond girl who was in the wedding party was out on the dance floor dancing with Bubbie. When Bubbie motioned for her to come down closer to his level and he told her, “I have to dance with my Me-Ma I will be back to dance with you later.”
Then he walks over to where I was sitting talking to someone and he grabs my hand pulls it and asked me, “Me-Ma will you dance with me”
So I went out to dance with him and danced a couple songs. Then after that he was fine dancing with everyone else. I guess in his mind his Me-Ma was supposed to have the first dance.
Then later after a lot of the people had cleared out, and most of the ones left were outside drinking, and smoking they decided to move the entertainment outside. So we all sat around talking, listening to the music, sounds of nature, and bullshitting about everything under the sun. This was such a country wedding the beer was kept in a horse trough, like I said it was a country wedding. Classical country wedding and reception, with all the down home touches to it.
One time my son-in-law walked up to me and asked me "Have you seen Bubbie?" I said, “Not for a few minutes anyway.”
As I am looking around for him, and finding him hanging off the side of the horse trough, trying to get in it.
I told my son-in-law, “Oh there he is trying to get into the trough.”
My son-in-law shakes his head and say, “Leave it to Bubbie.”
I laugh and said, “Hey he gets it honest he is your son.”
We both laugh and started to walking over to where Bubbie was, and we got him off the side of the horse trough. Needless to say Bubbie wasn’t happy he was hot and wanted to cool down.
It started to get really late so Bubbie and I loaded up, and drove home. I figured he would have knocked out before I even got to the paved road. No way in hell did that happen. He talked the whole half- hour drive back to my house.
We get about 2 miles from my house and he told me, “Me-Ma I don’t like to talk.”
I said, “Well Bubbie you sure could have fouled me.”
He got a little upset at what I said and told me, “Don’t say that about me. That isn’t nice.”
Of course he didn’t understand what I said so I had to explain it to him.
I told him “Bubbie that means that for someone who doesn’t like to talk you sure have done a lot of talking on the way home.”
He said, “Oh Okay! Are we almost to your house?”
I said, “Yes we are almost to my house.”
I think it must have been the fact that one of the little girls were standing by the drink table opening up the packages of mints, and shoving them in his mouth. When I seen what she was doing I asked her to stop, and told Bubbie he could not have anymore.
The little girls looked up at me. Smiles and said, “Isn’t he so adorable?”
I said, “Oh yes he is so adorable but he is also going to be high on sugar if you give him anymore.”
She shoveled his pockets full of the mints, and then ran off to play with the other kids.
So between all the mints, cake, and the chocolate covered pretzels that Bubbie had. I would have to say he was buzzing pretty damn good on sugar, and didn’t go to sleep until midnight. Fun times were had by all, and it was a very enjoyable wedding and evening. ![9[1]](/files/9%5B1%5D1243546162.jpg)

We used to have a great big huge old fish fry every September at a friend's in town. One big huge pot with simmering oil for fish (the host started heating the oil about two days in advance); one for the hand-sliced potato fries. My god it was good. Brim, blue gill, crappie. Mmmm.
Thanks for the memories. Glad you had a good time with your Bubbie.

We of course were working the Strawberry Music Festival this last weekend and ended up attending a wedding at the Festival.
The Festivals stage manager had introduced his daughter to a young man 7 years ago at the festival who was performing with his father, brothers and uncles. The band was called the Witcher Brothers. Seven years later Michael and Margo got married at the festival, had one of the main stage bands play at the reception at Amy Orchid Cafe and later he played a set with his brothe on the Main stage.
Off to Nashville where Michael is becoming a much sought after dobro player for seasons and tours. Both are great kids.
What a weekend all around.
That sounds like it would be a cool festival to go to. I love festivals and rodeos. We have a big one that hit in the area where I live it is a lot of fun.
That is a wonderful story about the wedding and how they met. I bet it was a beautiful wedding and reception. Thank you for coming by and for sharing your story with me.
