Risking

(I usually post my own poems on here, but this one I wanted to share with everyone. During all these troubled times I feel that some might need an inspiring message to get them through the days. I have carried this poem in my purse, hung it on my desks at home and in the office, I have passed it to all my friends. Over the last 20 some years it has always helped me see things in a different perspective and helped me to keep going no matter what life dealt out.  I hope you will enjoy reading it and that it might help many out there through these hard, rough times. Thank you Fireeyes24)

Risking

To laugh is to risk appearing a fool.

To weep is to risk appearing sentimental.

To love is to risk not being loved in return.

To live is to risk dying.

To hope is to risk despair.

To try is to risk failure.

But risks must be taken because the greatest hazard in life is to risk nothing.

The person who risks nothing, does nothing, has nothing, is nothing.

He may avoid suffering and sorrow, but he simply cannot learn, feel, change, grows, love, and live.

Chained by his own fears, he is a salve. He has forfeited freedom.

Only a person who risks is free!  --Unknown.

Thanks fireeyes! It is a good reminder to not live in fear and is especially appropriate for these times.
Thanks, Fireeyes, great reminders there!
Thanks! Great wisdom's to ponder.
Zashin, Princess, Newton- Thank you very much. I am glad you liked the poem. Yes it is a great reminder for the days ahead, not to be fearful and LIVE.
Momentarily, I will print and post this poem on my desk here at home. I am at the point of RISK and the edge of reward. Rated!
That is a message that not only adults, but kids going out on there own need to hear. Staying close to ma and pa, might be safe, but what do you see? what do you learn of other cultures? what do you miss?I'm glad i've been all over the world, and this, America.Taking a risk is how we walked on the moon. Isn't that fantastic?
Very soothing. Thanks.
Thank you. May I never forfeit... rAted!
Outsidemyself- Print it off and keep it. I have kept it with me for more than 20 years. Good luck with that Risk and the edge of reward.Thank you

Scanner- Yes it is a message that all should hear, not only adults. I am glad you came by here also. Yes it is fantastic indeed. Thank you

AshKW- It can be very soothing. Thank you

Mr Mustard- Oh No never forfeit. Thank you
At the "risk" of sounding smarmy - very nice eyes.
Thanks for sharing this. Suddenly everything I have done, (and probably will continue to do), holds a completly different meaning.
Boomer- Like when have you ever worried about sounding smarmy..lol Thank you

Spottedmind- I hope the thing have a much BETTER meaning now. It is very hard out there these days. I wish you the best. Thank you
Beautiful, thank you! Good reminder!
Thanks for this post, Fireeyes; it´s inspiring and liberating; at least I feel "lighter" after reading it. I think I´ll also print it and have at hand.
Kisses,
Marcela
So true, Fireeyes. A life without risk is no life at all. That is called doing time.
I stopped at the picture. Beautiful!!!

What do you mean, "Did you read the poem?" There was a poem!!???

Damn!

:(

:)
Reminds me of one of my favorites, "Road Less Traveled". The first time I read that poem I was in love with that "one less traveled", the riskier and yet it has "made all the difference".
"To love is to risk not being loved in return." Sometimes the risk doesn't pay off but when it does......
Lifehalflived- This one is for you...
The Road Not Taken--Robert Frost

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

(It is another one of my favorites among many).. Thank you
MAWB- You are so welcome. I am so glad you liked it.. Thank you

Marcela- Yes make a copy for yourself. I know it has helped me many times over the years to read it. Glad you feel 'lighter' after reading this. Thank you

Michael- Yes life without risk is no life at all. Doing time is a great way to put it. Thank you

Tink- Youngest daughter took that picture. It is Eureka Springs Arkansas. Beautiful place, My favorite place to go. I usually go down there 3 maybe 4 times a year, if not more. I couldn't go this year but I will be down there many times next year, count on it. She took some beautiful photos and shared them with me.
Yes Tink there is a poem and I hope you did read it. :)

LHL- Robert Frost one of my favorites poetic and poems. I post it above for you and everyone else. I have a HUGE collection of poetry. Yes sometimes the risk doesn't pay off but Oh Man when it does, it sure is worth all you had to go through to find it. Thank you glad you liked it.
Good poem, I will pass it on.
Thanks- Why does complacency seem so much easier?
Thank you Fireeyes...one of the weirdest things I heard said about love is 'be careful.' If I had been careful when I was 19 I wouldn't have spent 20 years with the love of my life. When people tell me now to 'be careful,' I kind of laugh. I am glad I let myself fall deeply in love with Beck....it was worth every possible other outcome.
Thanks, fireeyes. A cool, soothing, wise voice for hot and troubling times!
Isn't it interesting that when we distill a lot of wisdom it can be captured in such a beautiful and meaning filled poem.

Thank you.

Monte
OE- Glad you liked it.. Yes pass it on.. Thank you

Tijo- I really can't answer that question but I have wondered it myself. When you find out the answer will you tell me.. Thank you

Robin- Thank you for your wonderful comment and sharing a piece of your heart here. Some of the greatest things in life come from risking. I have been told before to "be careful" when it comes to love. Many times I should have been more careful, but those are risks we take and the lessons we learn from them are so valuable. I know I wouldn't have my girls if I hadn't taken a HUGE risk on someone who turned out wrong in the end. But any other possible outcome would not have been worthy of the love I have from my girls. Thank you very much.

aphrabehn- Risk is to experience life indeed. Without it where would we be? Thank you

Zuma- Glad you found it wise and soothing. Yes very needed during hot and troubling times. Thank you

Monte- It is truly amazing that is for sure. Some of the greatest words spoken and remember are that of poems, through the ages in history. It is a very meaning filled poem. Thank you
BrianB- You are welcome. And Thank you
As a risk taker and a dreamer and a constant underdog, I thank you Fireeyes. Sometimes I get weary.
John Walker-I am a risk taker, dreamer, also. You are welcome, glad you liked it. Thank you
I absolutely agree that a life without risk is a life not lived.
Lisa-Yes a life without risk is not living at all. Thank you
Amen to that. Nothing worse than boredom and lack of movement.
Sirenita- Amen! You are so right.. Thank you
I think I will start carrying this poem around with me... beautiful. Thank you.
DC- Yes make a copy and carry it with you. I have carried it with me for more then 20 years and it has helped me through a lot of rough times. Thank you glad you liked it.
Tai- Thank you ! It helps to read it often.
