Last week, my nieces, and I went, spent the day at Watkins Mill State Park and Lake. We had a picnic down by the lake, and then we went for a walk on the trail. The trail takes you through the woods, up and around the lake. It is one of my favorite lakes, and trails, because no matter what time you go there, it is always peaceful.
It is also one of my favorite places to go fishing, just sit and write, drive through checking out nature, and walk on the trail. It is a nice quiet lake, because you don’t have the speedboats, and jet skis. My nieces had a great time; they are country tomboys like their aunt, so they were right at home in the woods.
I had some trouble uploading the photos to this post, because they were more then 2MB. A friend of mine helped me set up a flickr account, which I found out I had one since 2007, and just forgot about it, oops. Also not to mention I have been busy with these girls, man I forgot how much work kids are, not used to having them around 24/7. I hope you enjoy the photos.
Oh by the way the date stamp is incorrect on the photos. They were taken August 6th,2009. One day I will figure out my new camera and get that date stamp changed, grins.

This is the view from the boat docks.

The girls playing down by the water down by the boat dock.

Off for a walk along the trail through the woods.

The girls on one of the birdges on the trail. If you cross the bridge the trail takes you up hill and around the top part of the lake. We took the lower part that day. But the night before we walked up the hill for a couple miles.

The two of them thought this was a perfect tree for them to pose by, so I told them okay go pose.

This was taken by a creek we found. The best part of walking this trail is all the off the beaten path things and places you find.

This is taken down the creek. We thought it was a cool place to hang out. The water was crystal clear. What water was in it anyway, usually with alot of rain it would have been full.

The two girls resting on a bench, that sat about few feet from where we found the creek. They have these bench all through out the trail. The two of them made good use of just about everyone of them. "No we're not getting tired. Not at all." Then off they would go again.

They thought this very tall tree was so cool. My friend said, it is a hickory tree, I would guess that also because of the strange bark.

Photo of a spider web. We seen some really awesome looking spider webs down through there. I was shock that I got this one to come out on the picture.

They called this "The Hugging Trees".

One of the many nest that we found along our way.

A bird house that we found.

Photo of the lake through the trees. They were so happy to see the lake through the trees, because that meant the lake was getting closer. Three miles to the lake, so they knew they could stop for a while once they were there.

The girls posing on one of the bridges on the way back through the woods from the lake.

Photos of the woods, taken on the way back from the lake. They told me "Start taking more pictures so we can rest for a minute." Oh but they weren't tired at all.

Resting on the bench. Half way back to the car.
That ends our walk of 6 miles total, from the car to the lake and back. I hope you enjoyed the walk.

Suzie- Glad you thought the scenery and the girls pretty. Oh that camera date is bugging the hell out of me, I have to figure it out, don't want to have to call my daughter to help me.lol. Yes no speed boats or jet skis, which in my opinion makes for a more relaxing time at the lake. It is a very peaceful and beautiful place to go. Thank you
Tai- Thank you for coming back to say the spider web was awesome. I was shocked it turned out. There was some really cool looking ones.
Mission- They are very sweet, they have had me on the go since they have been here, which has been nice to be busy. I have been feeling up to walking, since my surgery the pain is gone that was keeping me from walking, and hiking, so now I can enjoy it again. They had a blast, and they are ready to go again. Thank you
Trudge- Glad you love the spider web shot, and the essay. My niece I think are cute too. They are up visiting from out of town, and the three of us have been having fun. Thank you
Monte- This is the first time I have been around them or seen them since they were babies. So we have been having a wonderful time getting to know one another and having a blast. They said I am the coolest aunt. smiles..
It is a very well kept park and lake. Very peaceful at anytime of the day. They have camp grounds also, that are in the woods with tree coverage, unlike must camp grounds. I love going out there.
Thank you
oh, look! ....a bench! Ahhhh.
Michael- Glad you enjoyed the walk and didn't even get tired. Oh yes a bench to sit and rest. They are pretty cute, but I might be a little partial too. It is a beautiful park, and very peaceful. Thank you
designanator- It is a very beautiful park and well maintained. They enjoyed it a lot. Thank you
I'm always on the lookout for birds and bugs. My daughter is one of my favorite spotters. :-D
Thanks for sharing what was obviously a fun time! Your nieces don't look the least bit tired. ;-D
Beautiful!
It's in the 80s here & sunny with a little breeze.
I'll brave this abusive weather and just go get bored to death at this lonely quiet lake.
Imagine how bad it will be for me.
There won't even be those strange, noisy, garbage throwing life forms that wear boards on their feet while causing my boat to rock ever so gently as they pass by within 50' or less.
I guess I'll just have to stay till after dark to watch what's left of the Perseids and have THAT interrupted by the walleye that are active at night after hot sunny days.
You do realize, don't you that it's ALL your fault that I'm going to have to tolerate this experience?
Tomorrow evening, when I'm eating a dinner of fresh caught bluegills and walleye, I will do everything I possibly can to forgive you for this.
Zuma-It is a very beautiful park to hang out in, lots of things to see and explore. They are adorable, I am a little partial. Thank you
BuffyW- I am a tree nut myself, there is nothing like spending time in nature, taking it all in. Glad you like the beautiful photos. Thank you
Spotted- You are welcome for the walk, glad to have you along. Also glad that I could remind you of where you grew up. Thank you
Ronpo1- Thank you! Glad you liked the shots. I took a bunch of pictures that day, they are all awesome. Thank you
BillS- We seen some rabbits, a few birds, and a skunk(we slowed way down when we seen it). But that was about all we seen. Sometimes I have been out there in the early morning or evenings before sunset, and I have had deer come pretty close to me.
It is a wonderful and peaceful place to hang out all day long.
Glad you enjoyed our walk. No they don't look a bit tired, not at all. They fell asleep on the way home, peaceful ride for me. Thank you
Havlin- Glad you thought the photos and my nieces beautiful. We sure had a lot of fun that day. It has been great to have the opportunity to get to know them and be their aunt they now know. This was the first time we have been around each other since they were babies, they are now 7 and 9. Thank you
MAWB- I had to go back and look at the photo after I read your comment, it does kind of look like someone kissed the photo. Glad you enjoyed the photos. Thank you
XJS- Okay! Okay! Alrighty then! I will take all the blame for you having to be tortured with having to go out to the lake fishing. All my fault, I know it. I hope you have just an horrible time too. LOL!! Thank you for coming along for the walk and glad you enjoyed it so much it made you get out to nature yourself.
Trig- Yeah that is a cute photo. I actually had to make them stand still long enough, and act like they were walking, in order to not have a blurry picture. I also love the last one of them on the bench. All the photos turned out right, I have a around 80 of them, but couldn't post them all.
We had a blast that day. I can't think of any better place to be then outside in nature. It is my favorite place to go walking through the woods. Thank you
And what excellent companions for your walk! Lovely ladies.
If you´ve been walking 6 miles, it means that you are recovering your health and are feeling better, that´s great.
Thanks for the lovely pictures. Kisses,
Marcela
AshKW- Glad you got to come along for the walk with us. Thank you
Lifeisgood- They were great companions for the walk. Reminded me of all the times my girls and I would take the trail and spend all day at that lake. We had a wonderful time, glad you enjoyed the walk with us. The photos turned out better then I thought they would, I was shocked with the spider web one. I love my new camera, going to take it hiking all the time now. Thank you
Marcela- Yes it is a beautiful place to go. They are surely bombons. The youngest one in the braids is the one who looks mostly like me, it is that strong Dutch, Irish. Yes I am feeling much better after my surgery. Like I said above the pain in my lower back that was causing me from doing things like walking even to the store from the parking lot, is gone. So now I can do things I love, like hiking and taking long walk again. I hope and pray the pain stays away.
Thank you
Just Cathy- Glad I could give you something refreshing today. Just what you needed. Thank you
Tink- It is a very beautiful and peaceful place. Glad you could come along for the walk with us. Glad you thought the photos awesome, I have so many of them it was hard to pick which ones to post. Thank you
