you got some serious style. I like this!!! ~R~
FE, my friend, as you know I think your collection is altogether lovely. But there is something that disturbs me deeply about this post. And that is there is this portfolio in your studio....with your amazing artwork in it. I am going to slide that out....and you just try to catch me in you can. You won't be able to. I always win when it comes to art. You know this.

Thank you for sharing your home with me. And you are Legally Blonde, my girl. In the best possible way. How I love the artist who can wear red high heels and do that pick something up and pop up thing. I'm trying to learn that....but I'll never get it.

And then there's the Duke and Harvard free ride thing....in your studio....yes, Legally Blonde....and what about those Ivy League schools.
Very interesting revelations. Beautiful furnishings. Thanks for the "behind the scenes" look!

-R-
Cool look into your home.

When Pop use to refinish furniture, no dunking tank for us, just an old tray, a pump for the stripper and hours and hours of sanding, sanding, some stain, little varnish, a great big high from all the fumes and then headaches. :)

Heck, most the stuff he'd find at the dump, round oak tables, hoosiers, dressers, built his own furniture too.
Oh this is wonderful . . .I love how each piece tells a story and yet they all fit together. :)

Enjoyed and Rated.
What a great idea, I loved this! I recall that Robin mentioned the story about the covered wagon and the vanity, and I was intrigued, wondered how many other interesting stories were captured within your stuff.

You do lovely work, I am keen to see more. I really enjoy restoring furniture too, but haven't done anything for years. It can be immensely satisfying to see the beauty of a piece emerge from what was once an ugly duckling.

Show us more.
This is both beautiful and cool.

I love people who can do things like this, use your hands to make beautiful things. These are good and I wish I could do it! maybe it will be the impetus i need to finally try to refinish a piece.
Very cozy looking!
It's nice to have furniture with a history that you can pass on and on and on...
:-)
And you churned butter too?! You are one talented woman. I too have many American antiques but didn't do the work you do. Absolutely charming and beautiful. Thanks for bringing us into your original, fresh, antique world.
I love your home. I like the old antique stuff, and have done some refinishing my self. Love the flea markets, garage sale, etc. My wife and I could plunder all day in them. Great Post!
R~~
What awesome pictures! You have many treasures passed down and you've displayed them well. Beautiful!
Thank you for sharing this part of your world with us. It's good to see some people still get stuffed handed-down to them over several generations. May be able to pass it on to your kids. Rated.
I love your home and your collection of wonderful things! It's so lovely that you remember the history of the beautiful artifacts. I do like this very much!
Very nice. Not only do the collect and refinish Americans, you also have a good eye for arranging things so they are interesting and yet not cluttered. Talents you have been hiding under a bushel, I think. Enjoyed this.

Looks gorgeous and cozy, all at once!
you're so lucky! i remember my father's family bible. it listed all the names of my ancestors for about 200 years. i could have been a "trueblood" (a maiden name from some generations back). we didn't have much in the way of family heirlooms, but we did have a civil war rifle too.

i managed to make off with a whole bunch of cameras when i left home. this is an inspiring post! can i request a picture of the counter behind your sink? everyone keeps knickknacks there, and it makes a neat little portrait.
I love antiques, and the way you have them makes them even nicer.
How cozy, can I come by for some tea or coffee? I love the vanity, the history of it all makes it so special, to think your ancestors looked into it as well. Thank you for sharing Fireeyes. R
Beautiful furniture. Looks antique on a couple of the pieces. Very, very nice.
looks very comfortable.

Chuck- Well Thank You Sir! Glad you like it.. smiles.

Robin- Kicking up the red high heels, flipping back my long blonde hair, doing that Legally Blonde Bitch thing.. teehee
Okay! The Duke and Harvard is coming up in the next tour soon.. I have a post with some of my artwork on it look under the links on the left side "A side of me you never seen-my artwork."
But I will be posting more of my drawings and pottery that I have around the house.. You are so welcome here..
Thank you!

Carolinablue- Glad you like the look "behind the scenes". I figured it would be fun to do, because it is a side OS never sees and there is more to come.. Thank you

Tink- Man your pop was lucky I don't even have a sprayer for the stripper- it is all done by hand. But I do have a power sand, amongst my many many tools.. Glad you liked it.. Thank you!
Hi Fireyes,
You do have quite a impressive collection of not only fine antiques, but of the history to the pieces. You seem to enjoy colonial style furnishings, as they are homey. They make a place feel cozy, I like the quilt, my Aunt used to do a lot of sewing by hand. But her eyes at this point get tired. I will continue to look for more of your furnishings and great stories that go along with the pieces.
Ladymiko- The stories that go along with each piece in my home, is what make them so much more valuable. So happy you enjoyed it.. Thank you!

Ablonde- There are more photos and stories to come. I just decided to do a little bit at a time, instead of a huge post. But yes there is more coming, plus more of my artwork and pottery, along with more stories. Glad to hear you were intrigued. SMILES
I learned how to refinish furniture and woodworking from my dad when I was a little girl. I love to do it, nothing like taking someone else's piece of trash and making a master piece out of it. I can also do flood and fire restoration, and repair fiberglass too.
Like I said this is a side of me OS has never seen.. Thank you!

Thoth- Thank you glad you thought it was beautiful and cool.. There is more to come..

Ariana- Happy to see YA! Welcome to my home! It is really cool to learn how to do it, and lots of fun to do. But I will tell you it isn't a nice clean hobby at all. I put my overalls, tank top, and boots on and go at it..
Glad you enjoyed the post. Want any tips to learn how, PM me.. Thank you
Spottedmind- Well, when you ever come to Missouri to visit me, like you always say.. You can see them up close and feel the coziness of being in my home. SMILES! Glad you enjoyed it.. Thank you

Joan- That is cool that you have some early American pieces too. The beauty and craftsmanship of the early American pieces just take my breath away. I have some in the shop that I have to refinish still, but those are to sell and not to keep. Glad you enjoyed this part of my world.. Thank you

Scanner- Happy that you enjoyed this part of my home.. Cool that you can do refinishing also. I love to do it.. Thank you

bkoscelny-Yes I have many things that have been passed down from generations to generations. Glad you liked how I have them displayed. There is more to come to follow this tour.. Thank you
Somehow I envisioned you in a home like this. Cool place. I look forward to part two
Trudge- Glad you enjoyed this part of "My World". Stay tuned for more..Grins... There are a lot of things that have been passed down in my family, I don't even have all the pieces but I wish I did. The things I do have will be passed down to my girls, and so on. Thank you

Zuma- Welcome to my home!! SMILES!! Glad you loved my home and my collection. There is more to come too.. Tai, Robin, Owl talked me into doing the tour of my home, which is really a tour in American History. Thank you ! HUGS!

Monte- SMILES!!! Thank you! I love to decorate. Yes I have many talents hidden under the bushel, there is more to me then my stories and poems. grins.. My home is full of history and very cozy... I am glad you liked what I have showed so far..

Owl- Welcome to my home!! Thank you! Glad you thought it was gorgeous and cozy.. It was funny when Robin told me you said the same title"Welcome to my home", as I did an half hour before she talked to you, so the title was set.. Thank ya!
I cleaned up a few pieces from rummage sales when we had to fill a house with cheap furniture. Always thought it would be a great full-time job. A guy I knew did it and loved it. Something cool about knowing a piece looks good because you took care of it.
Thanks, that's beautiful stuff. I just went through sorting out all my mom's antiques while preparing her house for rental, it's great you managed to find places for all yours--and did such good restoration work on them.

I'm trying to get a perspective on the vanity--is it as short as it looks? What's up with that? It does look great though.
bstrangly-I had my ancestor's bible, stool about 5 inches thick and about 12" x 8". It list 200 some generations going way back. One of my old roommates stole it. It was like they stole a huge part of my whole Family, because it listed and held so much history within those pages. My father has the civil war rifles from his side and my mother's side, plus tools from his side of the family going way back from the plow days.
Funny that you ask about the counter behind my kitchen sink, because I took that picture today but just haven't used it yet.. There is more to come so stay tune..

ronnieray- Thank you so happy you enjoyed this part of my world..

Rita- You are welcome any time for coffee or tea. Oh! You have add in good music, we are listening to Jimmy Buffet right now. Yes the vanity has a lot of history of generations, looking into the mirror brushing their hair. (it is the original mirror and stool too)
Thank you! Come back again!
I would like to come and stay a while. It feels settled and cozy.
Micalpeace-Glad you thought they were beautiful and comfortable. Thank you!

Momsacomic- I have even more then what I put in this post.. more to follow this one. My family has many generations of quilters, all whom done it by hand. I learned how when I was a little girl, barely able to reach the table. I just got away from it all when I had to work and raise my girls on my own, other then that I still know how. So happy you enjoyed the tour.. Thank you!

BoomerBob- The envision of the fireeye girl without the ballbat, and chain saw, goes a lot deeper then what is told in my stories. I could be Betty or Martha, but I like the ballbat and chain saw.. teehee.. Now OS is going to get a tour of what I am all about.. Glad you thought it was cool... Thank you

Jimmy- To me there is nothing like taking a piece that looks like crap and making it into a master piece. I have always taken care of the things I have, I was taught to cherish and value the things you have. Glad you enjoyed this.. come back there will be more.. Thank you

Bill- You should look into the refinishing the pieces of your mother's. You never know what you might have. The base of the vanity doesn't stand that tall about maybe 2' tall, the mirror is the tallest part of it. Like I said Robin helped me put it on the base today, because it does take two people.
Glad you enjoyed this post, there will be more.. Thank you

Mypsyche- You are welcome anytime to come stay awhile. Maybe I should just start a bed and breakfast. Teehee!!! Thank you
It was really cool to share these photos with your OS friends, but, I've known that you have great style and good taste - for years!
Tai- Thank you!! I know my home has been a peaceful retreat for you over the years, same as your home has been my peaceful retreat. You are always welcome here, but you already know that.. {{HUGE HUGS}}
Cool. The Butter Churn looks great ! DO we have such things anymore?
Cool. The Butter Churn looks great ! DO we have such things anymore?
We had two butter churns like that when I was a girl. I would sit on a rug on the kitchen floor and turn until we had butter. I got a coffee grinder similar to your grandmothers in 1970 from a gourmet coffee shop, but I made the coffee in a Chemex coffee pot. I don't have nearly your collection of antique dishes, but I do have a set of eight antique ice cream dishes that were my Great Aunt Ethel Freeborn's and the linen monogramed handbag she carried when she got married. We also have a beautiful footed crystal bowl that belonged to my husband's Aunt Dodie, and she gave me a 14K Diamond framed Omega watch. That was a pretty sweet and unexpected gift. Those few family things mean a great deal to us just as it is obvious that yours do to you.

Thank you for sharing a peek into your home!
Neat pics here FE. I jus' love 'em. I too churned butter, but I used a huge crockery jug and a dasher. It was work, real work and I grew up hating butter cause it was all we had.
I do love the history behind so many of these pieces. Make sure you write it down for the future generations so it won't get lost. You never know anymore...
I really enjoyed the tour and love that you have have such a rich family history. Wish I lived near you to learn more about restoring furniture-I love that kind of work too.
Thanks for sharing, looking forward to the next installment!
(Oh, maybe you should think about a B&B-I think you'd be perfect!)
I love that these pieces have family memories in them, in addition to being beautiful. Very nice.
I love your furniture FE! Right after I graduated from college I went on a flea market kick, going every weekend and collecting old odd and ends, even furniture. I had a thing for art deco back then. All that stuff's gone now but I remember how much fun it was.

Cool place you've got. Thank you for sharing these pictures.
Very nice, FE....there is something very homey and tranquil about each ph0to. I think that you've done a beautiful job with the restoration and I have always had a soft spot for vanities and mirrors like this. They are rare jewels indeed. Can't wait to see the rest of your series. Great job! Rated!
Simply beautiful!

I’m sure restoring and caring for these pieces is a labor of love.

Thanks for the invite!
The beauty inherent in you comes across marvelously in each of the photos..both in the design of the groupings and the loving items within.

I am captivated by your home. So lovely, so full of charm. Can't wait to see more. Please post more. Pretty please? :-)

That vanity is gorgeous, FE. I'm so glad I get to take a tour!
Fun stuff! You really display your treasures well!
Very nice. I especially like that chair! It is wonderful that you have the family connection to these fantastic pieces! I envy you for that.
Kalyan- You can find butter churns at flea markets and antique shops, but I will say that it is very hard to find one that is in one piece and in good condition. I have seen them at some shops in bad conditions going for hundreds of dollars, and then laughed to myself knowing that I have one at home in perfect condition, same with the coffee grinder. It is amazing to look at the piece in my home and other places and know the history behind them all, because like I said they are a huge part of the American History. So glad you liked the tour.. Thank you

Suanne Freeborn- Hey so nice to see you over here, haven't seen you for a while. So great to see you back, kinda missed you and your input on my post.. Welcome to my home..
Sounds like you have a great collection also, maybe you should do a post to show your collection off too, I know I would love to see it. Like I have said I have many more pieces to come and more stories to tell about them. I hope you come back for more.. Thank you

Mission- Welcome to my Home!! And you know I have told you that you are always welcome here.. smiles.. I used to hate the real butter we had to churn too. I just couldn't stand to eat it after churning it for hours. The history of every piece my girls already know the stories behind them, but I have photos of them in a fireproof safe and the stories behind each one. I am so glad you enjoyed the first part of the tour of my home.. Thank you {{HUGS}}
What a wonderful blend of warmth and tradition, all wrapped up in such a personal, loving home. You have made it what it is. A reflection of you. Warm and loving.
Ladyfarmer- If you want to learn some tips to do refinishing just PM me and I can tell you how to do it. I really love doing it.
The owning a B&B is starting to sound really good right now.. SMILES.
Glad you enjoyed the post.. come back for more. Thank you

Athomepilgram- So happy to hear that you thought the pieces were beautiful. Strong family history and memories are really great to have. I am grateful for what I have and like I said there will be more to come.. Thank you

Smithery- It is fun to go to those places and pick up things to make a master piece out of them. The master piece when it is finished is so amazing. I love doing.. Glad you thought my home was cool. There is more to come.. Thank you

Onecorgilover- So happy you thought the photos of each piece beautiful and homey. You are welcome anytime to come visit.. There will be more to come.. Thank you !!HUGS

AshKw- Yes the vanity is gorgeous, I sit and look into the mirror sometimes and just think about all the women in my family looking into that mirror over the years. Glad you came over for the tour and enjoyed and there will be more.. You are welcome to come visit anytime for a peaceful retreat.. Thank you

MAWB- Glad you enjoyed the post, I hope you come back for the next one.. Thank you

procopius-The chair is a very beautiful piece, even more so in person. One chair no one sits in.. I have even more to my collection and will be sharing them soon..Thank you

JustCathy- I have had many people tell me over the years that my home is so cozy, homey and beautiful with all the pieces I have. A reflection of me, warm and loving Thank you for that.. Thank you and I cam glad you enjoyed this part of the tour, there will be more.
Thank you
What a beautiful home! How lucky you are to have things of your great, great-great and great-great-great grandmothers! It's funny to think of them using these things and never in their wildest dreams would they have thought that these things would be an antique collectors dream! Thanks for sharing your home!
Love this tour FE! Can't wait to see more. I wish I had a house - I'd fill it with your stuff.
Beautiful, Fire Eyes! What treasures you have collected and protected over the years. Beautifully arranged. Thank you.
"Her husband sat this dresser out of the cover wagon, to leave it behind. She sat and cried so hard, that he put the dresser back in the wagon and threw his tools out instead."

That's quite a story all by itself.

You've got some nice stuff there.
Zashin- You are right-never in a million years did they ever think about these things being an antique collectors dream. They were the things that made their life go around, and easier. I am glad you enjoyed this part of the tour and thought my home is beautiful. The door is always open, for my friends. Coffee or tea anyone?? Thank you

Dcvdickens- Hey Honey! So great to see you back around here, I have missed ya.. Glad you enjoyed the tour of my home. I don't have a house, it is an apartment, but none the less- it is HOME. No matter where I have lived I have always made my place a HOME, cozy, warmth and beauty all around it. I hope you come back for more. Thank you

Penrose- Glad you enjoyed and thought my treasures beautiful. Yes I have treasured them for years. Hope you come back for the next tour.. Thank you very much..

MrE- Yes that is a one hell of a story all on it own. There are many stories I could sit and tell about every piece in my home. Robin has gotten a good look into the history of my family and a part of American history. Glad you thought them beautiful and nice.. Thank you for coming along for the tour, I hope you come back for more, because there will be more..
You should tell the stories-- maybe they would be publishable? (for $$$ I mean.) I thought the ones you told were very interesting.
Wonderful treasures! I love the coffee grinder.
this is fascinating, so much history in your family possessions, and I'm way impressed by your handmade ironing board, fine-looking work
MrE- There will be more stories. But it just more fun to tell the stories to someone who is standing in front of them, so this is the first time that I have tried to tell them online. Thank you for coming back by..

Cocaol- Welcome to my home! Glad you stop in for the tour and found my treasures beautiful. I love the coffee grinder too. I can still close my eyes, and hear the grinder going around and around, and the fresh smell of the coffee that came from it. It is a peaceful retreat to sit and look at the pieces in my home, and envision my family members using them, and the memories I have that go along with each piece when I was growing up.I hope you come back for the next part of the tour.. Thank you

Roy- SMILES!! So happy to hear that you were impressed with the ironing board that I made. I design the pattern for it also. I go to hobby shops and other places, see a shelf or something I like, take a close look at it, stop at the hardware store to pick up the wood, and then go home and draw the pattern by memory and make the pieces. Some I have around the house and some I have giving away as gifts or sold. Woodworking is my favorite hobby either refinishing or making something.
There is a lot of family history and American history in my home. Glad you came by for the tour and I hope you come back for the next parts. Thank you!!
Great pieces! I collect useless stuff, but when I fix them up, the are still useless stuff. ;-)
Lovely. A very feminine and peacful space!
Thank you!
Michael- It is a lot of fun to go places and find things and make master pieces out of them, or even artistic creative things. Glad you enjoyed the tour and hope you come back for the next part.. it will be coming soon.. Thank you

Ostephanie- Hey Honey!! Welcome to my Home!! Coffee or tea? Glad to see you back around here, I have missed you.. Glad you enjoyed the tour of my home and found it peaceful.. the door is always open.. Thank you HUGS!!
i like the armchair and the quilt ^_^ very pretty
Anemic- I love the chair, there are many memories in that chair wrapped up in my grandma's arms. The quilt is pretty cool looking, like I said made by my mother. Glad you enjoyed the tour.. Thank you
Love the beautiful antiques. You've got quite a home. Rated
beautiful pieces with interesting history!
Ralph-I am so happy that you found my antiques and home beautiful. Maybe you will have to come to missouri and come see them up close and go fishing.. I know lots of great fishing hole.. just saying.. teehee
Thank you

Karin-Welcome to my home! Coffee or Tea? Glad you thought pieces were beautiful and the history behind them, does make for one hell of a story.. Thank you for come by to take the tour of my home. There will be more to come..
I like your antiques very much. You are very talented to be able to refinish and restore furniture. I can't do anything like that.
Delia- You can learn how to do it. It isn't that hard to learn but it isn't a clean hobby by any means. I am glad you came by for the tour of my home. Hope you take a look at part 2.. there maybe another one soon.. Thank you
love that last dresser, girly--gorgeous! thank you for sharing.
