Foster Mom
- Bio
- Foster mother to two children under two. One (Aimee) we're going to adopt. We've had her since she was three months old. The other (Matthew) has just transitioned back into his mother's custody. We had him from the time he was eight months old until he was eighteen months. We still see him regularly. I have not yet told social services we have room for another child. But I will. And soon.

Here’s the deal. I have a daughter. My daughter has two mothers. This is a fact. This is not a reality I have conjured up to torture you. I am not creating the situation, I am naming it. I didn’t plan any of this; and I’m sorry but I cannot wish… Read full post »
My Twenty Five Things
In response to this post I have compiled a list of twenty-five things about being a foster parent. Some of these things may be specific to my state and circumstance.
1. I've known very little about each of the children in our care before they came to live with us. You… Read full post »
So This Is Christmas...
It's late afternoon and I'm in bed with my laptop while my husband sleeps next to me and my daughter naps in her crib. We've had two Christmas' so far - one at my parent's house and one at a friend's house. I spent most of the time and my friends'… Read full post »
Christmas Confusion
This afternoon we took Aimee to see her parents so they could give her Christmas presents. We went to the house where they are living - with Aimee's paternal aunt and fifteen other people who are related in different ways. Aimee sat on her cousin's lap - her cousin is sixteen… Read full post »
Did I Sign Up for This?
I took the Values in Action Inventory of Strengths test today. I found out about it here. The results rank 24 different areas from strongest to weakest. My number one character trait was "modesty and humility." This struck me as an incredibly lame number one character trait. Number two was "kindness… Read full post »
Ho. Ho. Ho.
Between classes today I went to Macy's and bought a Christmas outfit for my seventeen-month-old foster daughter to wear this weekend. For eighteen years my in laws have gone to the other coast to celebrate Christmas with my husband's sister and her family. This year they're staying home and renewing… Read full post »
Stormy Weather
I spent today alone. My goddaughter Carrie's mother came home early and took the kids (normally I care for my two kids and Carrie during the day). Last Tuesday I cracked a rib and its been very painful. I've spent a lot of the last eight days trying to pretend like… Read full post »
Quiet Truth
I'm afraid to be alone with my daughter. When we are together and the house goes quiet and the phone doesn't ring the raw vulnerability of my position seeps in through the cracks and makes it hard to breathe. For the first few months of her life with us I kept… Read full post »
