Bio
On a political continuum with Extreme Liberal at 1 and Extreme Conservative at 10, I can be found at position “P.” I get a chuckle at much of what passes for liberal thought, but don’t much chuckle at anything conservative. Quite frankly, I consider American conservatism to be one of the most dangerous pieces of garbage ever to pollute the planet Earth. A major problem with this mindset is occasioned by the fact that I am a 72 year old, white male who works at a county golf course in one of the richest, most conservative counties in the United States. Since I get free golf (at five county courses) as part of my compensation package, I play 4 – 5 times a week. Bottom line: Goddam near everyone I work with or play golf with, almost all of whom are 70+ year old white, males, is a die-hard conservative. I love each and every one of ‘em—love every bone in their heads. Truly! Sure is a tough haul, though—‘cause I am not given to holding my tongue. Just think of all the fun I have at work and play! Don’tcha envy me?

Norm Coleman...Gracious Loser!

Rate: 7 Flag

From the New York Times....breaking news:

Norm Coleman, the Republican incumbent, has conceded to the
Democrat Al Franken in the contested Senate race in
Minnesota, ending a seven-month battle over the seat. Earlier
Tuesday afternoon, the Minnesota Supreme Court ruled
unanimously that Mr. Franken was the winner.

Boy...what a gracious loser!

think of all the trouble he'd have saved us all if he'd just done that a few months sooner.
Take away "gracious" Frank and you're dead on!
Mighty nice of him to "concede" now huh?
I always thought if you had less votes you lost. My how 2000 changed things in America.

Yup, Cap'n...woulda saved us all lots of trouble.

Blue...I was hoping someone would mention the fact that the word "gracious" was probably not needed!!!!
Naw, I think "gracious" is appropriate here. He exhausted his legal options and finally conceded. It's just too bad that he felt he needed to do all the maneuvering and he "cost" the people of Minnesota 6 months worth of representation in the Senate.

I think they could have resolved this easily by simply having both candidates go up to Lake Woebegon and have a Lutheran vs. Catholic, Dem vs. Rep lutefske dinner with the winner taking all.
What a total surprise, I fully expected him to call out Franken and challenge him to a duel. I'll give Coleman one thing he is tenacious, but in no way gracious. What a profound waste of both taxes and contributions. i hate to quote Tom Clancy since he is such a hard nosed conservative bigot, but, in Executive Orders he has his fictional White House Chef of Staff tell Jack Ryan that the founding fathers should have allowed for a jester. Someone to smack over self important in the head with a rattle to remind them that they are human and not demi-gods. Coleman could have used a good crack upside the head with a non-lethal instrument. The GOP is so sure that they hold the franchise on the government that they refuse to accept that they are now in a total minority. The best part? They did it to themselves. Look at Saint Sanford, he now admits to several "indiscretions" they will doubtless be traced back to the time that he and that other republican holy man Newt Gingrich were crying moral terpitude at Bill Clinton. How much time and tax money did their little impeachment cost? The both of them calling for his head while they were guilty of exactly the same moral issues. Will our resident conservatives address this? Not in a million years.
I think that Franken is going to surprise people, even a few on the right.
Yes no one will ever be able to fault him for that!
I hope the state sends him a bill for the court costs.
I'm still trying to figure out WHY it took so long to get to the Minnesota Supreme Court... for several reasons.

First, recounts need to be asked for from the local board of canvassers within the 7 days that they have to certify an election.

Second, recounts would have ONLY needed to be done in precincts where the difference in votes was less than 3% and THAT information would have been available from the county clerks for every county in MN by Midnight the night of the election.

Third, recounts would have been done both by machine AND by hand IF there was a difference in the number of votes between the original tape from the machine and the second (electronic) recount. If there was no difference there would have been no reason to do hand recounts *at all*.

Fourth, it was ridiculous to take it beyond the recounts to start with since there wasn't a hope in HELL that the results would have been overturned by the courts after the local boards of canvassers certified the results and sent it off to the Secretary of State for certification.

Sorry... I know too much about US elections to EVER keep my mouth shut when it comes to the idiocy that candidates engage in with regards to them.
The conservative mindset often entails a large component of anal retentiveness --- they just can’t let go, you know?

“Freud theorized that children who experience conflicts during [toilet training] may develop "anal" personality traits, namely those associated with a child's efforts at excretory control: orderliness, stubbornness, a compulsion for control, as well as a generalized interest in collecting, possessing, and retaining objects.”

;~)
Whereas I'm glad Franken won, and he should've been seated in the Senate much sooner, it's not too much of a stretch to think that if it had been Franken in Coleman's shoes, we would have applauded his tenacity to fight to the death over those 312 votes.
Frank nothing gracious about perverting the legal system to postpone an outcome known to everyone for months.

He's a schmuck.
