On a political continuum with Extreme Liberal at 1 and Extreme Conservative at 10, I can be found at position “P.” I get a chuckle at much of what passes for liberal thought, but don’t much chuckle at anything conservative. Quite frankly, I consider American conservatism to be one of the most dangerous pieces of garbage ever to pollute the planet Earth. A major problem with this mindset is occasioned by the fact that I am a 72 year old, white male who works at a county golf course in one of the richest, most conservative counties in the United States. Since I get free golf (at five county courses) as part of my compensation package, I play 4 – 5 times a week. Bottom line: Goddam near everyone I work with or play golf with, almost all of whom are 70+ year old white, males, is a die-hard conservative. I love each and every one of ‘em—love every bone in their heads. Truly! Sure is a tough haul, though—‘cause I am not given to holding my tongue. Just think of all the fun I have at work and play! Don’tcha envy me?

Bob Eckstein Cartoons!

 Folks, I haven't seen Bob Eckstein around for a long time now, but he did some great cartoons for the cover back a few years.

 

He met up with a bunch of us at a bar in New York City...and was a great guy. Here are some pix.

 

I am assuming the Super Bowl spread in today's New York Times is by the same Bob Eckstein.

 

If anyone knows for sure, mention it here.

I thought so. I was hoping someone would come along and confirm. Sounds like Bob is doing well these days. The New York Times is a huge newspaper.

We gotta contact him somehow...and set up a meet. Maybe Kerry can do the honors.

Yes that's him. If you follow the link in the Times article is shows his picture and his Snowman Book. Good to see him again!

Frank, he's one of my friends on Facebook and the next time we have a meet-up in the city I'll send him a message to see if he is going to be in the area and can join us.

Designanator…thanks for that. I hope we can get together sometime early this spring. Right now it is too cold…(unless golf is involved.)

Thank you, Frank...and the others here for the kind words. I've been spending time now cartooning for the New Yorker (I should have a couple of pieces coming out soon) and just finishing my second book. I dearly miss Open Salon and many of the friends who left and moved on but I'd like to become more active here in the future. I'll start by posting something right now.
