Religion can shove off

Rate: 0 Flag

I grew up in an Irish American household.   One side was Catholic the other Anglican.  My right hand wanted to shoot my left and my left wanted to bomb my right.  Actually not, but the illustration serves.  Imagine, both of these are catholic religions and except for who is boss and a few "minor" issues like women and gays they cannot be told apart.  Yet they managed to kill three to four thousand British and Irish.

Today it is the Middle East where Jews and Muslims, Muslims and other Muslims, Christians and everybody are all duking it out.

In India the Hindus and the Muslims are going at it.  In Africa it is Christians and Muslims.  Some Tibetan Buddhists want to war against China, but unless they can find a nuke, the numbers are against them, like several billion to one.

Then there are the smaller religions busily trying to spread their disease.  The Mormons are infiltrating Latin America and trying for Russia.  The Scientologists having terrorized the IRS into naming their drug addled fiction a religion and now are trying to tell everyone they are for peace.

Ever notice how they are all for peace but if you speak against them you are a blasphemer, infidel, apostate, suppressive person, or satanist?

One religion believes a guy hung on a cross and rose from the dead.  Another thinks their main guy opened the ocean.  Another says their guy is such a big deal if you draw him you must die.  Another likes to talk about space wars in Peru or was it Chile?  Another once believed in plural marriage and organized pedophilia and says they don't anymore but their home territory is filled with both.

And this is what men are inspired by and die for?

I was propelled to write this short diatribe by the goings on around the world.  Gaza leads today.  Now there is the embodiment of conundrum.  Two religions, one born of the other, fighting it out.

Frankly, if I was a Jew and had rockets falling on my town, I'd shoot too.  And frankly, if I was a Palistinian and was fenced in with the sea at my back and no where to go, no work, no hope, I would shoot too.

As an outsider, I have two new SAT questions.   Israel is to Gaza, as the  ________ were to Warsaw?  And, Hamas is to  ______, as the Himmler's and the SS were to the final solution?

I see these things and throw up my hands, and just plain throw up too.  I could not even begin to see a solution until I stepped outside the box.  In my mind I took away the religions, removed the differences and let the mothers, fathers and children go on their ways.   Imagine that.

Sir,
I guess what inspires people is not the symbols....
the fellow on the cross (is he stil there?doesnt it hurt?)...
the images not even allowed to be expressed....
this sets up a need in the gullible type. for authority. security peace....
the good Father...
us educated folks on our computers cant be easil
transported into
real religious mentlaity...
the firm faith in the bones
that the universe is well run...
and i am rewarded for my suffering....
which ends at death,
and i am deliverecd...
but to whom?
meanwhile, on the periphery but still in the center
comes a new, subversive
force like a thief in the night to bend
truth back the right way.....check out altizer..."death of god" guy...he said god had to die,,
and after that, all was spirit in action...what we've built,
the ugly cotton mills outside town,
can be reimagined, refgurbished, re-
anything....inspiration is the key....
inspire=yoga=breathing tips for the active boddhisatva... peace and love
Amen, Brother. This has been on my mind, again, lately, due to much of what you reported, and Prop. 8.

Religion if for the weak and scared, period.

Oh, no, it's my community, I grew up in church, my relatives ... blah, blah, blah ... so, you are either too weak, too scared, or both, to confront your community on persecuting gays, your family on supporting the latest crusade ... YOU ARE WEAK AND SCARED.

How pathetic to be scared that we came from trees, from aminos. How un-evolved to be so weak you can't stand up to bullies force feeding you guilt trips which themselves are NOTHING but regurgitations of Bronze Age myth supported by appropriation of Pagan ritual!

Here's the deal -- Credulous imbeciles are easily led; only non-biased education, the one thing they'll almost never get, can "Shine the Light" on ignorance.

If we are to survive and prosper tall tales of being ingested, and puked out, by Whales, of being blinded by Holy Birdshit, and, most importantly, absolutely appropriated (from Logos, etc.) nonsense about crucifications and re-animation, Trinities and so forth must be seen for what they are, GARBAGE.

1st Century and 7th Century history should be mandatory in school, so the credulous, at an early age, begin to understand the Occident/Orient power struggles and the violent world of the undrawable's Arabia.

As to the Vedas, etc. -- Screw you all for your haughtiness, "we invented this crap, blah, blah, blah." You have a caste system, to this day, and that makes you -- SCUM.

Growing up on Maui I was constantly exposed to new age fools, wannabee yoginis and other charlatans thinking crystals were going to catapult them to samadi ... well, I saw many meditate "religiously" for decades, and, they are still there, though now many, formerly flower children, are now bitter, lashing out at having wasted their entire lives sitting like a lotus merely eliciting our bodies brain response to heavy breathing ... yes, you can slow your heart down, no, you can't levitate.

Creation tales say it all ... Talking snakes? Worst-cast Misogyny? Blue elephants? -- screw that crap -- I go with the Hawaiian creation myth, Maui Lassoos the Sun and pulls the islands from the depths, the rest is history.

And, when sitting next to the rim of Madame Pele's volcano, feeling the heat, breathing the fire, yes, I believe, as many Hawaiians do, in her 100% -- and that is where religion started, explaining nature and why there are no crops this year.
