Specter could grow support with medical marijuana

Rate: 4 Flag

pa4mmjPhiladelphia - Arlen Specter has always been known as a political maverick, never one to tow the party line; whichever party. One issue that he has consistently supported, medical marijuana, has become a very prescient topic. In 2008 Specter told the Philadelphia Daily News "If it were legalized in Pennsylvania and if I were in pain and my doctor prescribed it, then yes, absolutely I would." READ FULL ARTICLE

Now there is active medical marijuana legislation in his home state of Pennsylvania, HB 1393, that is gaining momentum.

While Specter’s views on medical cannabis have always been supportive, he re-endorsed the issue at the PA Progressive Summit last week,  public opinion has reached a strong and clear majority on the issue as well.

In 2010 medical marijuana is not controversial, it is mainstream. Americans favor cannabis access and other prohibition reforms at record levels across race, class and gender. He always did seem one step ahead of everyone else, on both sides of the aisle
uh-oh, if he can "grow" support then they may try to make that illegal too ;)
Fully agree Chris. I remember Specter was the only Republican I used to vote for--he always seemed rational and thoughtful, even if he doesn't have much of a spine. So in the end, I don't look for him to take the lead on medicinal marijuana as he has major leadership problems.
I always did like Arlen Specter! Now more than ever, bless his heart!!
placebostudman - he's one step somewhere:)

Amanda- HAAA! Methinks that home political cultivation is still legal...but only if done outdoors

MJ - yea my friend took that pic when we were in Hburg this weekend...Arlan cracked a joke about being as pure as "Ivory Snow"... the reference to the 99.9% purity is over anyone's head who's under 50... he might take up the torch as it were for MMJ tho...never know

Amy - Specter does have a certain tenacity ...he hasn't stayed in office this long for no reason....he's a pro 4sure
Marijuana is becoming medicine. But oh the legal tussles in the state of Colorado...every day some politician is trying to regulate, shut down dispensaries, tax, etc . etc. The fear tactic is being used as well: Gang involvement, dispensaries being robbed, wrecking neighborhoods, blah blah blah. Glad Specter has some good common sense. Everyone needs to chill out...and I know exactly how they can do that :).
