Open Call: What is Your Road Not Taken?

Rate: 13 Flag

I love reading all the snippets of people's lives here on OS. Maybe because I'm secretly nosy as all hell.

But what about the life you didn't live?

We all have them. That fork in the road when you went left, not right. Or maybe you went off the path entirely. The guy you didn't marry. The job you didn't take. The woman who never answered your letter. The baby you had. Or didn't have. The degree you didn't finish.

What would you have done, or been? Where would you have lived? Did you even know you were at a fork in the road when you turned?

What is your road not taken?

Tag it "froggy's open call" or send me a PM and I'll make a list.

Hmmm. A story immediately came to mind, now I just have to decide if I feel like telling it!
Great idea, btw.
Now this is one of the most interesting Open Calls I have seen in some time. I think I will have to give this a lot of thought and see if I can come up with one particular road not taken.
Oh wow! I love this idea. And I have a doozy of a road not taken story. Now I just have to decide if I am brave enough to post it. Hmmm. The mind whirls at the possibilities!
My rating feature appears to be locked ATM. How annoying. Anyhow, this an EXCELLENT open call proposal. I'm also mad though because I'm way too addicted to these as it is! I'll be playing, and when I do, I shall post a link. (Rated- at some point)
Great Idea froggy. I'm sure you'll get some dozey's!
Marta. Do I really want to write about her?

Like me, I imagine many readers looked at the title to this blog and were suddenly transported back to that fork in the road. I think secretly we all would like to have a device that allows us to see what would have happened if we had followed that road not taken. I think that's why my favourite movie of all time is "It's a Wonderful Life". Oh, to be in George Bailey's shoes... I have had several huge moments in my life that have taken me down many different paths but one of the biggest was the night I met my husband. I was supposed to meet this incredible guy downtown and then I ran into an old friend who I'd consider dating and he also asked me to meet him downtown (When I say downtown, I mean the bar scene in my home town...if you were looking for someone, it would be pretty easy to find them as long as you knew their favourite haunts). So I had 2 possible dates there. I had some friends at a university about an hour and a half away and I had also planned to meet a guy there. So, I had 3 options that night and which one did I choose?...Door #4!!! I headed out of town to my friends' campus, got drunk, got lost and found myself in an on-campus tavern alone. My friends were too busy trying to 'scoop' certain guys so I slipped out without them noticing. I decided I needed to know where I was so picked a guy out of the crowd who looked like a football player at my own university. My first words were, "Where am I? What time is it?" That was 25 years ago and I'm still with that guy (who btw was not the football player). I know how the lives of 2 out of 3 of the guys I was supposed to meet turned out and I often wonder how vastly different my life and theirs would be if I hadn't met my husband that night. I don't wish I had chosen differently but so many small things could have changed that day which would have affected the course of my future.
Sorry for the lengthy response but this is one of my favourite topics. I've found myself at those forks in the road many times and have always been interested in the 'what ifs' we all face from time to time.
Great story, Puddle Duck! Thanks for contributing.
Too many roads not taken. The words not said at a crossroad or the words that were, the proposals not made, the child not conceived, the drink that shouldn't have been taken and the drink that was, the look not returned, the hint not gotten, the jobs gained and the jobs lost. Too many crossroads for any of us to go down.
