Fernsy's Open Call: Froggy's First Post

Rate: 3 Flag

Great OC, fernsy.

My very first post evah was here on OS, and it got an EP. I was very proud of it, and the story still makes me cry.

It's the story of Cassie, our beloved golden retriever mix, who still lives in our hearts.

Here it is: Cassie, our Brown-Eyed Girl

Cassie died in August, 2009. We lasted exactly three weeks without a dog, until we found Leo online, living in a doggie foster home, and brought him home with us.

Oh this looks like my Turkish Pooch> Love it.
Post a pic! I love dog pictures. I just love dogs.
What a tear-jerker, Froggy. You did the right thing. I know too many pet owners who are guilted into treatments that just make everyone miserable and don't prolong quality of life. I just lost an elderly dog and have another who is 14 and has tumors that I'm afraid to have checked out because he's a large dog and probably approaching the end of his life. There really aren't any decisions to be made. He's happy here, with us, and we'll make his final months or years as comfortable as we can.
Bellwether--I was driving in the car today, and "Brown-Eyed Girl" came on the radio, and I couldn't help but get all teary. She was a wonderful dog. I thought I'd never want a dog again, but we went to visit my brother about a week after she died, and spent a weekend with his big goofy chocolate lab. I realized I just love dogs. We couldn't get Cassie back, but we got a wonderful dog who is nothing at all like she was, and he needed a home, so here we are.

(In fact he's right here patiently reminding me that I haven't fed him yet.)
