Observations From the Swamp Many folks think we live in the nether regions of the earth here in Toledo, Ohio. However, Toledo is the birthplace of jazz great, Art Tatum, not to mention many other distinguished and accomplished AfrAms (African-Americans) who often remain unheralded and unrecognized in their home town. This swamp is a petrie dish swarming with undiscovered talent that the world may never know because there are too many slimey creatures down here in the swamp pulling down anyone who tries to climb out and come out into the warmth of the sun. This diva climbed into the swamp with one purpose - to rid the world of slime!

My leave of absence is going to last just a little longer

I haven't been here much since my brother's death last year. Now I'll be AOL a little longer. I start working on my doctorate in January 2012. Just hope my absence makes your heart grow fonder because I'll certainly miss all of you - unless I see you on Facebook. I'm Geoyce Chatman, one of my many heteronyms.

Thanks, M! I have to take 12 credit hours a semester and it turns out my classes are almost all 3 credit hour classes. That's four classes a semester and four sets of books, reading assignments, papers to write, and tests to take. I have real test anxiety. The rest I can handle. I'll be doing a lot of relaxation exercises!
