I Got the Job! Yea!

Rate: 22 Flag

Yes, I got the job. Almost one dollar more per hour than my last grocery-store job where I did  ten times the work and always without a "Thank-You."

I'm just a front-end gopher: bagger, get carts, etc., but they want to train me to do cashier, too. If job in deli or produce comes up, I'm in line they said. I'll be glad to be out of the apt. It took me almost one year to get this small part-time job.

I was amazed at the friendliness of the managers compared to my last job. The woman who interviewed me said, "We're like family here." My response? "Well, it was a family where I worked before, too. A dysfunctional family."

Will I be rich? Nope. But, as a former teacher and artist, I never was. Just let me pay my bills with a bit left over. Now, when I pay my utility bill, I can contribute a few bucks to those who can't. My grandma would be happy.

Thanks to all of you who sent me positive support!!!

Now.... will that be plastic or paper . . .

Hey, congratulations ! I carry my own recyclable shopping bags, thank you. No paper or plastic for me. Enjoy your new job.

sometimes a job--any job--is a major victory. You have someplace to go and something to do. And knowing you, you will make sure that you earn every dime of your wage and then some. That's the way you are.
Congrats and thank you.:)

I was just going to pm you to ask about the job. Many Congratulations. I carry my own bags too but most of the time they sit in my trunk, so I'll take paper please. When do you start? -R-
So glad to hear this. Congratulations!
Congratulations! That same job is starting to look good to me as well. Do you get a food discount?
Oh I didn't know you were looking. Congrats on the new job. I'm sure you will be a very good asset to their small business. Shoot for manager...
Congratulations! And hopefully it will give you both the space, and possibly the inspiration (all that people-watching!) to write. (Thanks again for the welcome back to Salon. I wrote a long post last week, which I am really happy, with but unfortunately, the only people who've read it are personal friends I directed to it! Would love some more Open Salon readers! Sorry for the blatant self-promotion. I really am thrilled for you about the job.)
Congratulations - Misrule beat me to it - was going to tell you that hopefully you can mine the experience for some good material - love your style of writing.
Congratulations. Do they give you a discount on groceries?
Wonderful and your upbeat spirit is inspiring. Good luck!
always good news when someone we know gets a job!! Congrats!
Good! And I loved your last post.
Can't believe you're happy about a grocery store job. Must suck to be you. You should be used to rude comments? Since that's what you do all the time.
