Not every sand castle gets until the tide turns! Kids go "climbing" on the scultures after the annual sand castle competition at Drakes Beach, Point Reyes National Seashore.
Why Drake's? The white cliffs in the background are thought to be what the English explorer spotted on the California coast in 1579, where he named the land named New Albion. "Albion" is a classical name for England, described as the white lands for the ("alba") cliffs of Dover. These cliffs are off-white, but the man was homesick, so slack must be granted for his color descriptors.
