Even McCain Disagrees With You Lou: Obama Is A Citizen

Rate: 12 Flag

Some still can't accept the fact that Obama is president

When the allegations that then-Senator Obama wasn't a U.S. citizen started swirling during the presidential campaign you'd think that the first person to seize upon them would be his opponent, Republican Senator John McCain. But his now famous "no mam, no mam" response to a woman during a campaign town hall meeting when she asserted that Obama wasn't qualified to be president dashed the hopes of "birthers" that they could count on McCain to support them. Now comes word that McCain didn't just dismiss their claims out-of-hand.

The Washington Independent reports today that when the McCain camp learned of Pennsylvania Attorney Phil Berg's lawsuit challenging Obama's qualifications to run for president it immediately investigated the claim. They were hoping to find a smoking gun that would convince the American people that they ought not vote for Obama.

But according to the report, after looking into them, the McCain campaign dismissed Berg's allegations.

I don't know whether CNN's Lou Dobbs was aware of all this when he challenged Obama on his radio show recently to produce his birth certificate. But maybe Dobbs, who I have a lot of respect for, will now reevaluate his position on this. Because if anyone had a vested interest to prove the claim, it was McCain.

I had attorney Berg on my show, News Talk Online on Paltalk.com during the campaign. I listened to his arguments but found them to be unconvincing. Not all of my listeners agreed with me. But let's look at this:

The U.S. Supreme Court declined to hear Berg's appeal - in essence dismissing the claim as lacking standing. And the chief justice of the Supreme Court swore Obama into office.

Now that he's president, I really don't understand why the Berg claim keeps resurfacing. Obama's detractors should be focusing on his policies and challenging them, rather than wasting time and effort on a matter that's already - from their perspective - been disappointingly resolved.

More smoke and mirrors to take the public's eye off the real issues like Health Care Reform. What idiots these people are to play into that game.
Indeed. Why keep bringing this up if Mr. Dobbs supposedly already believes that Obama is a citizen? Everyone who must care is okay with the revealed documents. Dobbs is fishing for ratings and is intentionally adding, as C Berg says, to the smoke and mirrors.
You must not have been here for the election. McCain never expected to win. He was a straw man. And nobody has ever accused McCain of being smart.
This type of meaningless banter is one of the never ending distractions that cable tv puts out there each and every day. The masses must be distracted and lied to in order for the money changers to screw everyone and our military allowed to blow off the limbs of little Afghan boys and girls while we discuss important "issues" Dodds, with authority in his voice is an especially good asshole in this game of distractions. He has provided cover with his immigration bullshit and now this. Some people will sell their souls and Dodds is one of them...
that is dumb to bring up, of course McCain didn't have a totally clean pass on Panama, although really the Courts would not rule on something unless it was real definitive, like AHNOLD.
What difference does it make now, unless you want to start a civil war? Cease and desist from this Republican.
The claims of the "birther" movement are like "intelligent design" theory, Terry Schiavo, support for torture, and opposition to embryo research and other dumb conservative ideas. They've become part of conservative identity politics and people are seen as more authentically conservative the most doggedly they advocate these views.
With better editing--The claims of the "birther" movement are like "intelligent design" theory, Terry Schiavo, support for torture, opposition to embryo research and other unpopular conservative ideas. They've become part of conservative identity politics and people are seen as more authentically conservative the more doggedly they advocate these views.
I had a lot of respect for Dobbs. I lost it on this event. The error was so basic or the bias was so pronounced, I don't know. But I doubt I'll ever be able to look at one of his stories again without wondering if he did equally little fact-checking or exhibited equally much bias. Before I just took him for a thoughtful guy who obsessed more about some issues than others, but this was not an issue of obsession, it was an issue of recklessness.
I try to accept it when people just have ideological differences from me, but the whole birther movement is willful and dogged ignorance, based on nothing but xenophobia and wishful thinking. They want Obama's birth certificate? HERE: http://msgboard.snopes.com/politics/graphics/birth.jpg
Want to see real-life Hawaiian newspapers that confirm said birth? HERE: http://whatreallyhappened.com/WRHARTICLES/obamabirth.php
If that doesn't satisfy them, they can fly their own asses down to Honolulu and thumb through public records if they want. It's not Obama's responsibility to indulge them. If these conservatives had any brains, they would focus on actual issues rather than the race-baiting and mindless distractions they've been engaging in.
the point that the "birthers" are missing is not about the president himself though they are welcome to imagine whatever they like. When ALL the candidates in any presidential election get themselves on ballots whether in primaries through their parties
(I clicked when I didn't mean to) So, it is either through the party at primary time or qualifying for electors for the general elections when the question of basic qualification including citizenship and /or birth records are supposed to come up at the state level.

What the "birthers" are saying, without actually realizing what they are saying, is: WE ARE so American that we REALLY DON'T like the American way of qualifying presidential candidates anymore.

These people must not have liked John McCain. Or, if you can find a BIRTHer who did like McCain, ask that person where McCain was born. The answer: Panama

This is a favorite topic for me since my 4-year-old has dual citizenship and technically could become Pres. of the U.S. and then Prime Minister of Japan
rated
I suspect closeted racist motives in continually banging this drum. (Being in the Midwest, I've developed an ear for code and subtle racism.)

Finally, a counter-beat. Chris Matthews smashed Gordon Liddy, to his face, on the issue. Made the guy look senile. John Stewart proved not only that Lou Dobbs is wrong, but that a host filling in for Dobbs successfully debunked the falsehood on Dobbs' own show. (aired Wednesday)
Here's a headline: Award winning journalist and director of programming uses logical fallacy in headine. What the hell is wrong with you?
Lou Dobbs lost my respect, and interest a long time ago. CNN in general, loses my interest with their slick injection of negative wording into practically every headline about a non right wing Republican.

Braking news!
