In an attempt to revive his dying campaign, Newt Gingrich has come out swinging against Ron Paul. Specifically, he says that “"a person who thinks the United States was responsible for 9/11, a person who ... wrote in his newsletter that the World Trade Center bombing in 1993 might have been a CIA plot, a person who believes it doesn't matter if the Iranians have a nuclear weapon" should not be allowed into the Oval Office:
Funny you mention WTC ’93, Newt. I was a young chap when the bombing happened, but I remember it pretty clearly. I remember hearing about terrorism in this country for the first time in my life. I also remember my mousey middle school civics teacher discussing the bombing with us in class, and she clearly was disturbed by it. Although I didn’t understand exactly what “radical Islamist fundamentalists” meant, and I couldn’t put this stuff into any context, I was a little frightened by it.
Fast forward 10 years later. I started to question the reasons behind these “terror” events, particularly 9/11, because in the aftermath of that attack my brother was told he was going to Afghanistan to fight these guys. I figured if my brother was risking his neck for “freedom”, then I should at least educate myself, since at that point in my life I really didn’t know much at all about geopolitics.
Once I realized the official story of 9/11 was fishy (to say the least), I began to work backwards and research events I remembered from my youth but didn’t know much about, like Waco, OKC, and….WTC 93.
I had learned about a guy named Emad Salem, a former Egyptian military officer turned FBI informant. He was recruited to bust up terror cells in the US. He was told that he was going to supply the WTC 93 plotters with “harmless powder” that they would use to make the bomb. The FBI would then arrest those involved and dismantle the operation. However, the FBI supervisor in charge of the operation overruled the use of harmless powder and instead provided the terrorists with actual bomb making material. Salem began to tape his phone conversations with his FBI contacts and used the tapes in court. According to the New York Times:
Mr. Salem is quoted as telling agent Floyd: "Since the bomb went off I feel terrible. I feel bad. I feel here is people who don't listen."
Ms. Floyd seems to commiserate, saying, "hey, I mean it wasn't like you didn't try and I didn't try."
In an apparent reference to Mr. Salem's complaints about the supervisor, Agent Floyd adds, "You can't force people to do the right thing."
In another point in the transcripts, Mr. Salem recounts a conversation he said he had with Mr. Anticev, saying, "I said, 'Guys, now you saw this bomb went off and you both know that we could avoid that.' " At another point, Mr. Salem says, "You get paid, guys, to prevent problems like this from happening."
Mr. Salem talks of the plan to substitute harmless powder for explosives during another conversation with agent Floyd. In that conversation, he recalls a previous discussion with Mr. Anticev.
"Do you deny," Mr. Salem says he told the other agent, "your supervisor is the main reason of bombing the World Trade Center?" Mr. Salem said Mr. Anticev did not deny it. "We was handling the case perfectly well until the supervisor came and messed it up, upside down."
So the FBI supplied the terrorists with the bomb material for the WTC ’93 attacks? Holy shit!
Here is CBS news reporting the same story:
Here is an mp3 of the phone conversations Salem recorded (it took awhile for it to load for me…please be patient):
Here is a timeline of the terrorists’ activities leading up to the WTC ’93 bombing and beyond. These guys were allowed in and out of the US, even though they were on the CIA and FBI’s terror watch lists. These guys were also funded and trained by the CIA to fight with the mujaheddin against the Russians in Afghanistan. Strange, that sounds just like the 9/11 hijackers:
According to an article from the UK Independent from 1998, The CIA admitted in a confidential internal survey that they were “partly culpable” for the WTC ’93 attack. They called it “blowback”. Gee, I’ve only heard one candidate talk about that before, and he’s usually ridiculed and called a nut for even suggesting it…I wonder who that might be…
So Newt throws this WTC 93 idea out there in an effort to make Ron Paul look like a nut, but clearly he is the one who doesn’t know his recent history, or worse, is trying to revise history. I think Newt thinks that people are so ignorant of their history that he can say this kind of stuff and get away with it. My guess is Newt thinks its still 1990 and the mainstream media still controls the political discourse based on what they choose to ignore or repeat endlessly. But Newt has not taken into consideration the internet, where damning information lives on forever, like in the UK Independent website archive where I found the blowback article, or the NYT article and CBS video from 19 years ago. Maybe Newt and co. are trying to associate anything conspiratorial with Ron Paul, hoping people will listen without researching for themselves, in an effort to dismiss Paul’s message…who knows…
One thing is certain: Myself and boatloads of others ain’t buyin’ it.
